Thank you Pink:)The last 2 classics I read were Frankinstein by Mary Shelly and Lord of the Flies..both are excellent reads.

Marian, they're both great books, though I didn't find either of them easy reads, they were worth the effort.

I understand what your saying Pink,Lord of the Flies is not any easy read as its characters(the boys)and reading the darker side of them, stranded, and the savagery.
Welcome to the group and hi to Tonia, Ila, Marian, & Catherine. So glad that you have all joined us! And I'm excited to share reading classics with you.

Hi Kathy, and thank you for the warm welcome:)I have taken out my book "Villete" as Im not sure if I have ever read it:)
Marian, I really am glad to see you here! And thanks for the friend invite too. It's okay not to read all of the group reads. We have that many just for variety. It is also okay to choose from books we have already read and comment on those older discussions. Happy reading.

Thank you Kathy for your explanation:)For me thou, there is a certain bucket list that needs to be read and Villete happens to be one of those books,as is Middlemarch, and Madame Pompadour..but that remains to be seen..or ummm..read..lol!

That is good to hear Kathy that you loved this book")I will also, now that Im thinking about it,will also want to re-read..is my favorite book..Jane Eyre:)

Hi and welcome Marian! Enjoy and happy reading! :)

Hi and welcome Cat! I agree that it's the greatest thing in the world to read a book that takes you to a different place and time! There's a great selection of classics to read here each month so enjoy and happy reading! :)

Oh, Jane Eyre. I love Jane Eyre. I think Middlemarch is even better though--happy reading, Marian!

I've been on Goodreads a while but I've joined this group as I'm really going through a phase where I want to read more classics (I've read quite a few but, of course, there's so many I've probably barely scratched the surface). Huge fan of Susan Coolidge, Louisa May Alcott, Charles Dickens, L. Frank Baum, Mary Shelley, Charlotte Bronte, Lewis Carroll... I could go on and on (and on and on; does Ian Fleming count?). I'm currently on R.L. Stevenson's Kidnapped, which I hadn't read before, and I've got Bram Stoker's Dracula ready for my next read; I'm familiar with the story and I really enjoyed LeFanou's Carmilla, so I have high hopes for that one!

Thank you Brina:)

Welcome! :)

Marian and Tonia, I'm glad you're both enjoying it here too! It's our fantastic, friendly members that makes it such a pleasure to help moderate this group!

I live in South Texas and have lived in some part of South Texas most of my life. For a couple of years I lived in central Jackson MS.
Eons ago, I attended college and university here in South Texas where I was an English major. I love classics. They feel substantial.
I look foward to reading and discussing with my new friends here.
