Maia (maiawpz) | 3 comments Hi, I'm Maia! I really like classics and am trying to read some less usual ones, particularly those written by women, so I think this group will be very fun and helpful. I especially want to read more from outside of England, and more modern classics.

Hi Maia and welcome to the group. I hope you find what you are looking for in classics here. May I suggest that you look through some of the Women's Century challenges. You should be able to find some great classics that people are reading that are written by women.

Here is a link to that folder and happy reading .

message 4058: by Sakuko (new)

Sakuko Hello, I'm Sakura. I started reading english with the classics, mostly Shakespeare and Austen. I also love the Bronte sisters (well, most of them), Verne, Conan Doyle, Wilde, Forster.
I'm interested in the beginnings of horror and sci-fi, so I started reading a few more obscure or foreign classics like Capek (R.U.R and War with the newts) and Abbott Abbotts Flatland.

Jon Sindell | 1 comments Hello! In the realm of older classics, I love Dickens, Wilde, Wordsworth, Taylor Coledridge, and Shakespeare (too old?), and I’d love to sample others, fill in my gaps in good company. I write – I’m a small press author with two story collections out, and a great many short stories, essays, and comic pieces here and there — and reading more great lit is of the essence to any committed writer. All-time favorite books: Catcher In The Rye, The Great Gatsby, Remains Of The Day, 1984, Treasure Island, The Hobbit.
Looking forward to having some fun!

Robin P Hi, my name is Robin and I live in Wisconsin. Many years ago I studied French and English literature in graduate school, then realized how hard it was to get a university teaching position, so went into a totally different field But I kept my fondness for 19th century classics, although I read many genres.

message 4081: by Sabina (new)

Sabina Hi everyone!
I'm Sabina, from Uruguay. I just graduated from Cinema School and now I’m working on some projects and trying to write. I have been an avid reader all my life, love to read classics but also modern literary fiction, fantasy, science fiction, historical fiction and nonfiction… so it's easy to fall behind with my TBR classics list.
I hope that this group, which I find very welcoming and well organized, will help me catch up while generating interesting conversations. :) Please excuse my English, It’s my second language.
Looking forward to meeting all of you!
Sabina
