Please Introduce Yourself

I'm Jane, I live in London and I grew up in a home with classic literature and Agatha Christie books, so I had an early start to classics!
My favourite author is Edgar Allan Poe and I'm just ..."
Hi and welcome Jane! I just recently started to read Poe and I very much enjoy his stories. Good to know that you'll be reading The Birds and Other Stories with us. Some of us, like me, have finished it already so you'll be in good company. I know you'll enjoy yourself here! Happy reading! :)

For a school project I am doing research on Blackwell's (a British book retailer) and I need some people who have been there at least once to fill in my questionnaire (who better to turn to than the book community!).
This only takes 2-3 minutes (I swear!) and it would help me out so much :) Would anyone like to fill it in? THANKS!

I have a lot of interests and I'm happy to say that reading is one of them. Besides reading, I enjoy traveling, playing guitar, listening to alt. rock. Some of my favorite artists include: Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Beatles, and Amy Winehouse. I also enjoy a good movie thriller...anything with a bit of horror or sci-fi is great. I really like anime as well. And I do A LOT of Netflix.
Currently, I'm watching: Gilmore Girls and Supernatural. Love the wit and humor, not to mention female empowerment in Gilmore Girls(also, it makes me want to read the heck out of books!-hence goodreads) and Supernatural, well...what can I say? The brothers are yummy! Plus, angels & demons...it's awesome. #TeamCastiel<33
Anyway, I joined Goodreads because I'd really like to learn more about the reading community and...be a part of it. I hope to expand my knowledge by reading, make some friends along the way and, as a result, expand my world. Happy reading!

I'm Mónica, I live in Mexico City and one of my hobbies is reading. I joined so I can keep knowing books all around the world, and to keep practicing my english - I would appreciate your comments if I commit any kind of atrocity in my writing :p
Nowadays I'm studying french and I think I'm ready to begin reading in this language, I hope I can do it with a book of the club :)

Thanks Brina! and thank you for the friend request! :)

Thanks, Cely. That'll be a pleasure!

If you look at my currently reading, there is an Agatha Christie there and I completely adore Christie!!!! But does she count as a classic, I'm not sure...!
Hope to talk to you soon! Xx

Hi Fred!
I don't know if she counts as a classic, but I think she does, at least in the mystery and policial genres. I'm looking forward to get into something of her authorship since my mother was an avid reader of her books. Which one do you recommend me to get started?

Hi Fred, welcome! Enjoy and happy reading! :)

Welcome Fred! I see you're reading Hallowe'en Party. I just picked that one up, but have not started it yet. How do you like it so far? I would definitely say some of her books could be considered classics, especially for their genre. I love Agatha Christie too and enjoy just sitting down and relaxing with one of her books sometimes.
This is a great group and you'll find many choices each month to read. I hope you enjoy reading classics with this group. It's introduced me to some that I had not heard of before, and that's always a good thing!

Hi and welcome Emily! You're in good company here with other members who love Emma and all books by Jane Austen. I also share my love of all books with my sister, brother and sister-in-law! I'm sure you'll like the group! Happy reading! :)

I still can't believe I haven't read Murder on the Orient Express yet, but many people love that one. Of her books I have read, so far my favourites are The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, And Then There Were None, and Death on the Nile. I think any of those would be great to start with.

Welcome Emily! I hope you enjoy reading classics with this group. It's a wonderful group, and we have many books to choose from each month. Emma is one that is still sitting on my shelf, and I really need to get to it, but I love what I've read of Jane Austen so far.

By the way, I'd say Agatha Christie definitely counts as a modern classic of murder mystery!

My name is Jane Fischer and I live in Oregon. I began my relationship with goodreads in earnest last year by doing the VT Reading Challenge. I've never read more than 5 books in any year in my life! I signed up for 30 and ended up with 52! The goal is to read books from many genres to broaden horizons, basically. It's a reading list with 104 entries with everything from biographies, theology, Pulitzers, comics, books with an ugly cover, etc. I never would have believed I could read that many books in one year! There are at least 10 spots for classics and add to that wild card choices and I decided that I'd focus on classics for those spots this year, as well as the novel over 400 pages and other parts of the list that would use a classic. I decided to join this group and focus on the 4 choices each month. Looking forward to Remains of the Day and beginning the Three Musketeers and hopefully discussing both. BTW, I'm getting ready to start Never Let Me Go by Ishiguro, the author of Remains of the Day.

Welcome to the group Jane & Sarah. Glad you have joined us. I hope you have fun reading with us!
