Hi, Linda, I see you have Pride and Prejudice on your list to read. That is a great place to start in my opinion. I love Victorian novels and that one is so enjoyable. But also, I recommend Dickens, I love Great Expectations. What classics did you read in college?

message 3619: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Hockey | 6 comments Hello all, I am a fan of classics, just lately joined, I will aim to try and read the hitchhikers guide and harry potter this next few weeks if I can get hold of them, or maybe lord of the rings. Some of my favorites over the years include, Hermann Hesse and Dostoevsky: Narcissus and Goldmund, Brothers Karamazov, Crime and Punishment. I also like science fiction and classic science fiction, such as Frank Herbert, Arthur C Clarke, so I look forward to taking part in discussions as and when its a book I can get hold of to read,

thanks,

Jonathan

Karin (hippolicious) Hello everyone!
My name is Karin and live in Belgium. I love to write, read and craft.
At the moment I am attempting to read all the "BBC's top 100 books everyone should read". I like to broaden my horizons and read books I would normally not pick. I just finished 1984 and am currently reading His dark materials by Phillip Pullman (love it).
I'm looking forward to participating in discussions and discovering "new" classics to read.

message 3628: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (ace-geek) Hi, my GR name is Adrian, but don't be fooled, I'm a woman. I'm 26 and I just found this group. I love what classics I've read so far and my tbr list is full of them. I'm getting a Kindle for Christmas and I expect having so many of them so easily accessible and portable is going to be great. Right now I've got the Kindle for PC app and I'll be starting Kidnapped soon, since it's the December read. I'm really looking forward to it.

Welcome Manda!
That 101 Year Challenge is a fantastic idea!
I was born in 1964 so I might pinch that idea and do something similar myself!
a quick search for 1864 reveals Jules Verne's Journey To The Centre Of The Earth which by curious coincidence is one of my faves, so that puts me off to a good start!

message 3639: by Abbey (new)

Abbey Hello I am new to the group (and slightly overwhelmed haha but excited to see how all this works!) I loved reading when I was a kid, but middle school-college has swamped all of my time. But!! As I am graduating in a few weeks I will have plenty of time!! WOO! I love to read just about any genre. I have read a few classics, but they are a genre that I am looking to read more of! I am excited to create a new personal challenge for myself for 2017 and this group has given me many ideas! I'm excited to "meet" ya'll and have fun!

They do look like a lot of fun. I've tried a few challenges before, but was unable to because of work and school. So I am going to hunker down and read a lot this year!

Jane Butane (janebutane) Hi!

I'm Jane, I live in London and I grew up in a home with classic literature and Agatha Christie books, so I had an early start to classics!

My favourite author is Edgar Allan Poe and I'm just about to jump into reading The Birds for this month's short read :-)

Looking forward to getting to know you all!

message 3650: by Brina (new)
