This group offers quite a range of group and buddy reads, so I'm sure you will find something manageable for a start, Zuzana. ;)

Thank you for such a warm welcome! I noticed few mistakes in my writing, I am not a native English speaker so I do apologize. Feel free to correct me.
I looked at The Death of Ivan Ilych yesterday, the description sounds interesting, but maybe I should try something less depressing to start with :) I only decided on Russian classics because of Rory mentioning Gogol in one episode.

I would recommend Crime and Punishment - not as depressing as it sounds and I found it surprisingly easy/enjoyable to read

Welcome Zuzana. Just this reader's opinion, but I found Gogol really hard to read and War and Peace surprisingly easy. Since you can often find classics online for free, you could read a little of them and see if you like the style. My suggestion is since there is so much out there to choose from--don't stay too long with anything you don't like!

I'm Zuzana and like Marie, I was inspired by Rory to read some classics! What a coincidence :) I'm looking into reading some Russian classics, I got War and Peace but I have a feeling it mi..."
Hi and welcome Zuzana! I've read a few books by Gogol just recently and very much enjoyed them! If you're looking to read more Russian literature might I suggest reading Ivan the fool and other tales of Leo Tolstoy and Russian Stories and Legends by Tolstoy. They're far from depressing!
Glad to have you in the group! Enjoy and happy reading! :)

Hi and welcome Abe! Glad you've joined us to "juggle" reading the classics! I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself here! Happy reading! :)

We have lots of classics on our shelves, both depressing and light hearted, so take a browse and see if anything grabs you!
Welcome to the group Abe! I hope you manage to squeeze some classics reading in, I know it can be a juggling act when you have a busy lifestyle!

Hi and welcome Iain. I love your attitude about books. Happy reading.

Hi and welcome Iain! Welcome to Goodreads and to Catching Up On Classics! I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself here! Jump in and happy reading! :)

Thanks Pink! Still getting oriented but it all seems fairly intuitive. It'll probably become easier when I get my laptop back from my mum's, where I left it last time I was down. I've read some of your reviews in passing btw and they are very insightful. Hope to chat soon.

Thanks Hailee. Asimov is my favourite, but more of that in the proper place.

Hi and welcome Manas to Goodreads and to Catching Up On Classics! I'm sure you'll find some classics and discussions here that you'll enjoy! Happy reading! :)

Hope you all have happy reads and discussions with us ;)
Celeste, there is a request for "The Hobbit" and "The Silmarillion" on the buddy reads thread - so you could join there as well ... ;)

Hi and welcome Celeste! You'll definitely meet members here to have discussions with on the classics that we read! So enjoy and happy reading! :)

Hi Eoinda! Glad you finally decided to introduce yourself to the group! Happy reading! :)

Hi Eoinda and welcome to the group. Reading more challenging books is a great goal and will be a lot easier in this group with lots of like-minded people to talk to.
Welcome to the group Celeste & Eoinda. I'm glad that you introduced yourselves so that we can get to know you a bit. I look forward to reading classics with you.

I've been reading classics slowly over the years and really feel drawn to them at different times. I'm looking forward to seeing what's coming up in the next few months. I currently have plans to read Jane Eyre (again) and have recently finished Northanger Abbey. I'm glad to see you revisit books you've already read, makes me feel like I'm not too late to join!
Looking forward to getting to know you all and it looks like a fun group. I love challenges and I see you have many to choose from here. I can't wait to join in!

Hi and welcome Tasha! We do read an array of classics here so I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself here with reading and discussing books with members! Happy reading! :)

Atm I'm reading 'The Spirit Catches You And You Fall Down' by Anne Fadiman but I'm planning on reading more classics soon.
These include Jane Eyre, Northhanger Abbey, Oliver Twist, literally 95 % of Shakespeare's plays, etc. But I am also trying to catch up with my German classics such as Thomas Mann 'Buddenbrooks' or Berthold Brecht 'Der Gute Mensch von Sezuan'.
Looking forward to getting to know some of you! If you have any questions or recommendations, please don't hesitate and just leave me a msg.

Ahh that's great!! Thanks a lot. I will definitely check them out asap.

Hello and welcome Sandro! I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself here! We read many of the authors you like so I'm sure you'll fit right in! Happy reading! :)
