Tara | 2 comments Hello all. Tara here - like Krista above I live in the Midwest (Ohio), love reading (and re-reading classics) and really enjoy historical fiction. I also read a fair amount of ancient and medieval history. I think this group is just what I've been looking for. The October group reads look fantastic! September looks great, too, but I have the next few weeks already teed up, book wise. I'm especially excited to re-read LoTR, as I've been itching to pull that one off the shelf again lately.

Did you take your screen name from Merchant of Venice or is that just a happy coincidence?

message 3078: by Matt (new)

Matt Hey everyone, Matt here. I am currently in Virginia. I've been on Goodreads for a while and just happened to find out about the reading groups. After doing some browsing, I decided this is the one for me. I definitely need to catch up on classics and saw some good ones in the history here. Hopefully this group will keep me reading. I signed up at the end of August so I was only able to get through Pride & Prejudice (first time for me). I am moving on to We Have Always Lived in the Castle now. Hope to chat with some of you about it!

message 3079: by Brina (new)

Brina Welcome, Matt. That is definitely a good start. This is a great place to read classics and I look forward to seeing you in the group.

Hi Matt! Welcome! I'm glad your browsing led you to our classics group! This is definitely the group to catch up reading classics! Pride and Prejudice is a fantastic start, it's one of my favorite books, with Wuthering Heights being my absolute favorite! I'm also reading We Have Always Lived in the Castle! I'm almost finished! Can't wait to read your thoughts on the books that we read! Meantime, enjoy and happy reading! :)

message 3081: by Elena (new)

Elena | 7 comments Hey. I'm Elena, 23, and from Germany. Until a few months ago I more or less simply read and re-read the same books again and again (until I'd read them far over 50 times in some cases). Then I decided that, while I loved those particular books as though they were old friends, I'd really LOVE to finally get around to reading the classics.

So I ransacked my parents' library and took home dozens of books. Needless to say: I LOVED THE CLASSICS (okay, most of them ;) )
I'm over 200 books in by now and simply can't stop or slow down. By now I've found out quite a few authors I LOVE (Dickens, Tolstoy...) and some I really have to struggle to get through every page (Austen, Milton).

I've joined this group to talk about some of the classics I loved and to get new ideas on what to read.

Uff! This has turned out a rather longer post than I intended... anyway, I just wanted to say "hi" and thanks for creating/maintaining this amazing group =D

message 3086: by Viv (new)

Viv JM Hi everyone

I'm Viv from England. I joined the group because I am trying to get a better balance with my reading between contemporary & genre versus classics and thought I would find ideas and reading buddies here! I can see that quite a few of my GR friends are members.

I am currently reading The Tenant of Wildfell Hall and loving it. In the next month or two, I plan to read some Virginia Woolf and am considering Les Miserables too.

I'm not sure how many group reads I'll fit in over the next few months, thanks to a reading challenge over at the Roundtable group but if I can fit any into my categories I may join in. I'm in it for the long haul :-)

message 3087: by Pink (last edited Sep 08, 2016 05:01AM) (new)

Pink | 5491 comments Welcome Viv :) I love The tenant of Wildfell Hall, I think it's my favourite Bronte book. Feel free to join in with whatever you find time for. We have a short story read each month if you're looking for something more manageable in length. Otherwise hopefully you'll find some crossover with our group reads and your current plans! Good luck with whatever you choose to read :)

Hi and welcome Elena! Glad that you ransacked your parents house and found some new favorites, like Tolstoy, who is one of my new favorites too, especially his short stories and tales! Sorry you're struggling with Austen, though that's the way it goes with her writing. People either love her (like me) or, not so much! I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself here! Happy reading! :)

One son is a reader, but work keeps him too busy, the other loves the Harry Potter series, but not so much anything else. So far I have 2 big readers out of my grands, but most of them are too young to read yet.

message 3099: by Melora (new)

Melora | 12 comments Hi! I'm Melora, and I was getting ready to comment on the We Have Always Lived in the Castle discussion when I realized I hadn't yet introduced myself. So...

I live in North Carolina and have for ten years now, but I was born in Florida and spent my first forty years there, so really I'm a Floridian. I have two kids, one husband, one golden retriever, and two cats. My kids are transitioning this year from homeschooling, which is what we've done up to now, to being more traditionally educated -- my son is finishing his senior year of high school at the community college, and my daughter is a freshman at the high school -- which means that I have a bit more time for reading than I have for quite a while! I read all sorts of things. I tend towards nonfiction, but I also love fantasy, classics, short stories, etc.

I look forward to being encouraged by this group to read a few things I might otherwise have missed, and to having a friendly community with whom to exchange thoughts on books! Thanks so much for having me!

Andrea AKA Catsos Person (catsosperson) | 1685 comments Hi Melora,
