Just wanted to say hello as I'd like to start partcipating in some of the upcoming group reads. There are some really good choices for the month of June. I'm hoping that reading with a group will help me to put more into and get more out of some of the books I read.

Hello everyone. I'm Sue from the Chicago Burbs. I love books, movies and plays. I especially love movies and plays of books I've read. I recently got to see my favorite classic, East of Eden as a play and loved it.I usually read contemporary historical fiction and non fiction that reads like fiction (Erik Larson type books). I want to read more classics and international books.
I was looking for a group that was reading The Name of the Rose, because I wanted to have someone to discuss it with.
This group seems better than I could have hoped for. It's great that there are 4 or 5 reads going on at once. I'll likely only be able to read one, but judging from past reads and July's nominations it's going to be hard to decide which one!
Hi Sue and welcome. I'm originally from the Chicago suburbs and still think of it as home but I live in Ohio now. Glad you found this group. The discussions are lovely and we have a good mix of older and contemporary classics. I hope you enjoy the books in this group.

I'll probably start in July.
The play was so good. I have never seen the movie but want to. I read East of Eden 10-15 years ago (which I consider recent). I rarely re-read books (unless they were originally read in high school) even ones I love, because I know there is so much out there that I haven't read. Nice to meet you Lisa.

Oh yes, it was a small portion, but they did a great job of capturing the essence. I never go in expecting a movie or a play to capture everything. It would be impossible. They'd need to do a TV series.

Hi everyone! My sweet friend Stephanie told me about the group as I have some "tomes" I would like to read and you guys read some I actually have on my list :-). Good reads is such a wonderful place to read books with new friends. Although, I read a lot of books and the bigger ones take some time as I can't just read one big book.
I love all books but my favorite genre is ya of all sorts. I love doggers and pretty much all animals in general. I love watching movies and tv shows of all kinds from The Walking Dead to my British Comedies and Mysteries. You never know with me. :-)
I have also watched Pride & Prejudice with Keira Knighly and Matthew McFadden about a million times!! That's the only one I love :-).
Anyway, didn't mean to go on too much. I look forward to reading with everyone!

Thank you Loretta and Pink :-) I want to do the Gone With The Wind read with you guys. I also saw War and Peace up there that I might like to try. I read so many books but I like to read the big ones too, I'm just not as fast. And I apologize if I wrote something weird, I'm using the little un smart phone at the moment! I definitely like using my computer better. :-)

Hi,I'm Lori. I've been reading classic works since I was 10 and became enthralled with the Brontës. I noticed a conversation about East of Eden up above. I recently finished reading the journal Steinbeck wrote as he was writing Grapes of Wrath. Fascinating read. There also is a book of Steinbeck's letters he wrote to a friend as he was writing East of Eden. Next on my list.

Hi Lori, wlcome. I'm Sue, new here too. Thanks for posting that. I found the Journal on letters about East of Eden on here and added it to my list. I've been wanting to read "Travels With Charlie: In Search of America." That he wrote about his travels through America. Have you read that? Or has anyone else here?
Is there a place for stupid questions from new people? For example, I was wondering how many of you include the link when you mention a book here. Are you using an outside URL shortner or is there an easy way within Goodreads to do it?

Good luck catching up on all those classics and with your first choice of To Kill a Mockingbird. Don't worry about finishing it before June on our account, I'm sure people will still be discussing it next month :)
