Aiden Davis (kertha) I am a 20 year old who lives in the United States. I am currently in college, but I have no idea what I want to do when I get out, but I have always loved reading as well as writing, so I decided I would start trying to review books. Maybe this is the niche that I decide to stay with. I also have a blog, kerthasreviews.blogspot.com if anyone would like to join me there!

message 54: by Vincent (new)

Vincent Rivas-Flores Hi. I'm Vincent, a law student at George Washington in DC. I've been reading a sorts of books for years, but the classics have been my main fodder, if only because they are largely free on the Kindle and I need money for food and rent. It works out well. I'm reading a lot of great novels that I hadn't gotten around to before, and I am enjoying it.

message 55: by Holly (new)

Holly (hollycoulson) Hey everyone, I've just joined here.

I'm Holly, and I am currently obsessing heavily over classics, and have been for the last few years. My aims are to do an English Literature degree, and then either go into libraries or publishing. Most likely libraries. First I have to pass my A-Levels... I guess I joined here to chat with other people about classics, who share the passion that I have for them. Teenagers don't appreciate them enough!

Cagliostro (cagliostro1981) | 1 comments hi, everybody! My name is George. For you just Cagliostro (historical figure of no so much importance but alsoa hero from a novel of Dumas-the father i think so)I am from Greece and i am working as a lawyer when I am not reading literature or history or biographies or just everything with pages. Many wishes to the group. It is very special to realise that in many places in this planet exist person with the same interests like you. Reading books is usually a lonely pleasure, perhaps because it is difficult to find people that enjoy the same interests with you. I hope that admitting your lovely group will help me keep a pace with my classic bookshelf of my library which always stands for me like something very sweet because it was my father's favourite shelf.

Virginia | 3 comments Hello everyone!! Virgina here! I'm a southern girl! I love,to get to read classic books! I love reading Christian Fiction and the classics. I would like to expand my classic reading shelf though. I also would like recommendations for the classical books that others have really enjoyed. I love baking, cooking, and writing whenever I get the chance. I have a blog that I just started up like a week ago:

MK (wisny) | 2579 comments Kali Mera, George! (One of my brothers-in-law is Greek :-) )

I'm so impressed with the wide diversity of members! At least three (Anna and Antonio, I think?) speak three languages. Awwwww I always wanted to learn a second, but other than HS Spanish from another lifetime ;-), it remains on the bucket list.

I just joined your group yesterday, Goodreads the day before. Kathy sent me a lovely note, asking me to drop by this into thread to say hello. I live in Maine (northeast corner of the country, bordering Canada, for those outside the US). Married, one grown daughter, currently in Dublin beginning her second year of veterinary school. One dog, three cats, was four until two months ago when said daughter took Jack the cat with her to school in Ireland.

Used to be an avid reader, until I started spending all my reading time surfing the net, ohh late 90s or so, I suppose. Resisted a Kindle until about two years ago, because I thought I preferred 'real books'. Glad I stopped resisting, bc I love my Kindle! Read more now then I have since I discovered the internet ;-). The number of free books blows me away. I spend hours sometimes, just browsing the best sellers free lists on Amazon. Reminds me of library visits when I was a kid :-D. With libraries of libraries to browse thru, tho! heh. Looking forward to reading the classics with such a friendly, diverse, interesting bunch. I've downloaded one of this month's classics, Picture of Dorian Gray.

Nicole | 6 comments Hi! I'm Nicole from Puerto Rico. I'm a comparative literature and film student. I like to write short stories, learn different languages and collect comic book adaptations of the classics. Lately I have taken an interest in rediscovering half-forgotten books and authors. I read almost anything but I don't enjoy sci-fi very much. One of my favorite novels is Jude the Obscure (which is probably one of the most depressing yet fascinating works of literature out there!) Well hope to share and enjoy all this great reads with you all :)

I'm Michelle and I've just joined goodreads and can't wait to start getting recommendations, I studied English literature at university and got the chance to read lots of the classics then, but there is always plenty more I want to read and never know where to start. I love the idea of having somewhere to chat about latest reads too.

Mariana Trigo Hi! I'm Mariana and I'm from Portugal. I'm 19 years old and I study medicine. I'm looking forward to start reading with you guys :)

Gnijoahz | 1 comments Thank u for ur welcome, Kathy.
I'm Zhao Jing (my friends usually call me Jing), from China. I'm an MA student in Xiamen University, studying literature.
I'm glad to join the group, and look forward to seeing literary opinions from all over the world( cool).
Be a Chinese and like a Chinese, I tend to keep silent, but that doesn't mean I don't participate. I tend to be more an observer than a speaker.

Rick (williarw) Hi, I'm Rick.

I have a lifelong pattern of returning to the classics every decade or so and I am on another one of those rides. Currently revisiting Tom Sawyer.

During the day I am a college professor of psychology.

This seems like a nice group of people and I am happy I found it.

message 95: by Lysa (new)

Lysa Hello Everyone! : )

Please, please help. I read a paperback a while back but I can't for the life of me remember the title. Its a classic novel of course settings in the early 1900. About a debutante. Surprise ending the married man she was seeing has come back into town & stops into this house to find all the furniture in the foyer ready to be moved out?, (I think) only he didn't know the woman of the house was his mistress and that she passed away of consumption. Any idea. Thank you in advance.

message 100: by Daisy (last edited Nov 30, 2013 03:05PM) (new)

Daisy (bellisperennis) Hi everyone.

I just finished The Turn of the Screw The Turn of the Screw by Henry James by Henry James and felt so swept away by this incredible book that I posted before I'd introduced myself.

Reading classics has been a natural part of my life since I was a child. After first starting in the children's section of the library I jumped straight into classics with avid passion due to the fortunate influence of an impassioned classic-lover adult.

If I read a classic now I often get the feeling that I've read it before. (I'm pretty sure that I'm reading David Copperfield for the second time.)

I like other genres and my interests also extend to cycling, slow cooking (I’m vegan) and birding.

People in Goodreads offer interesting insights and I’m looking forward to being a part of this group.
