PinkieBrown Thanks for the messages of welcome.

I have seen the group’s bookshelf referred to but I haven’t come across a link to it yet; so I’d appreciate if a link could be posted here ... with the necessary apology that I may be missing something bleedin’ obvious 😳.

Suzanne | 1 comments Hello, I’m Suzanne from Delaware. I love reading classics, as well as historical fiction, and fantasy. I’m currently reading The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, which I’m enjoying very much! One of my goals for 2019 is to make and keep reading a regular part of my day, so I’m happy to have found this group and look forward to joining in the challenges. When I’m not reading or working I enjoy spending time with my husband and our 2 Italian greyhounds.

PinkieBrown, if you’re browsing on the desktop you can view our bookshelf at the top right hand side of the page. It’s underneath the link to group home and above discussions. Alternatively we have a listopia and thread about this, here’s a link https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Robin Loves Reading (robint60) | 6 comments Hi. I was just recommended this group. I live in Massachusetts, been married for 37 years, have six adult children, six grandchildren and two more on the way. I used to love classics, but haven’t read that many in far too much time. I joined a classics club on Wordpress and Twitter just last night. I am happy to be joining in here too.

Summer (suhmer) | 5 comments Hello.
My name is Summer, I ive in England and I am a 24 year old student :) studying tourism but really I like to study the classics... I want to read as many as possible :) I'm not sure what first made me switch to reading classics about 5 years ago, just a desire to read respected books and understand what they are about.

I have been finding it difficult to find people on goodreads who read almost exclusively classics (like myself, ignore the two recent pop-books, I was tempted by goodreads and instagram and it waas a mistake haha!), but yes so more classic reads feel free to add or message me for a follow! I look forward to reading with you all :)

You are not alone in wanting to concentrate on reading classics

(just did a quick check, and out of 443 books I've read in the last 4 years, a grand total of 8 have been published in the last 10 years!)

message 5929: by Howard (new)

Howard P (howard_pavane) | 19 comments Hi all. I am Howard Pavane, an award-winning professional songwriter, lyricist and musician. I’m always interested in finding well-written books and am especially drawn to the classics. A good classic is a window into an earlier time. They inspire me to continually improve the craft of writing lyrics.

I am a photographer, but I sorely miss shooting film and developing them in my darkroom. As an artist I work in various mediums, mostly charcoal, pastels, and watercolor.

I like to write old-school. I love to write with fountain pens on quality journals. I find it helps me to be creative. I cannot write on a computer, there’s something about pen and paper that I cannot duplicate on computer keyboard.

I have survived over 10 life-threatening illnesses, starting with Polio in 1954, 6 months before the vaccine. I have been on disability for over 20 years. For the past 15 years I have been a volunteer at Make-A-Wish, working with children who have life-threatening conditions. Helping these children and their families is my most gratifying endeavor.

message 5938: by Warren (new)

Warren Hello and Happy 2019 everyone! My name is Warren and I have gotten back into reading in a big way in the past few years - helped enormously by working in both my local library and bookshop part-time. My quest is to read chronologically through the classics, which i have been working on for over three years, starting with The Epic of Gilgamesh and having just reached the eighth century via the Greeks and Romans, with a few other things thrown in. My next read is The Ecclesiastical History of the English by the Venerable Bede. But I am looking forward to chatting about any and all books with you all.

MK (wisny) | 2579 comments Reading them chronologically! So interesting :)

MK (wisny) | 2579 comments PS - I bumped into a lovely lady around Goodreads sometime last week, she is brand new to Goodreads. Actually, I bumped into her husband some way or another, and that led me to 'meeting' his wife, who is delightful. She's retired, and has lots of time, and a love of books of all kinds. I suggested she join some groups, she'd meet lots of people from all over the world, and eventually, she'd settle into a few that felt most comfortable.

In any event, she hasn't joined any yet, so I invited her here. I hope she shows up (Mark's Wife Sue, is her name). I told her that although it's a classics group, the members talk about all kinds of books, and it's a very open and friendly group.

If you show up, Sue, welcome! I hope you love it as much as I do. And, join a bunch more groups! There're groups for just about anything you can think of :D.

message 5948: by Namuungoo (new)

Namuungoo Enkhbat (namuchan) Hello, my name is Namuungoo. I'm a 16 years old girl from Mongolia. I've loved reading since like forever ago. I started reading classics that were simplified for children. I loved most of them. However, I stopped reading that much because of school and stuff. I usually finish a book in one or two sitting. But I don't have enough time for that and it kind of gets really annoying when I read only a bit of a book everyday. Not only it's easy to lose track, but also I don't get to feel it enough and everytime I finish a chapter, I find it too hard to not read the next one, Anyone with same problem? So I just usually read in my holidays now. I like reading fictions. My favorite genres are probably fantasy, detective and drama. Nice to join this club!

message 5949: by ALLEN (last edited Jan 30, 2019 01:54PM) (new)

ALLEN | 622 comments Hello, Namuungoo! Welcome! I belong to Postcrossing and just received my first postcard from Ulan-Bataar last week. What a coincidence!

You can find book-reads here that proceed a chapter or two at a time -- also, consider how many great short stories notable authors have written. I would recommend anything by Guy de Maupassant; others here will have suggestions, too, I'm sure.

The Complete Short Stories of Guy de Maupassant V1.
