sharleen Hello! My name is Jenna and I am 18 and from the Midwest. I am still in high school. My IB Literature class and my love of philosophy has inspired me to read more classics. I have a nearly full shelf of classic novels that I have been stockpiling but now I actually have to read them! Hopefully this group kick starts my classics journey:)

Katrin Hello,

my name is Katrin and I live in Germany.
I love funny and gentle books, so I can't wait to read Persuasion again and see if I still like it as much as I did in my student days :)
Apart from reading I love sports and sewing.

Joel Dolphin | 1 comments Hello,

I'm a 31-year-old lad from Anchorage, Alaska. I enjoy long walks on the beach and low car insurance.

I recently switched careers, going from police officer to state investigator with a focus on healthcare professionals (doctors, nurses, dentists, therapists, et cetera). I still work 1-2 patrol shifts per month for my police department as a weekend on-call.

I'm married to a beautiful woman whom I have known since 8th grade. She's a licensed professional counselor so, yes, she analyzes me. :-) We have two little boys together, and we're thinkin' about adopting a golden retriever.

I look forward to reading the classics as part of this group. I have read very few classics to date, and I'm sure I will enjoy the journey.

Vernal Hello, my name is Vernal and I am fairly new to this group. I haven't read many classics but I definitely want to change that. I am looking forward to getting book recommendations as well as getting to know the awesome people in this group!

My favorite classic as of now is The Outsiders. I read it in a day! And I'm a slow reader.

What are your favorite classics?

Hi and welcome Vernal! Happy to have you here! You'll definitely be reading more classics here and the threads are always here so that you can comment and discuss the books that we read! Members are always here to join in conversations, so no worries! Read at your own pace!

I love The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton! Did you ever read her other, less known classic, That Was Then, This Is Now? If not, you really must! It's so good!

I have many classics that are my favorite but my absolute most favorite on the planet is Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë.

Enjoy yourself and happy reading! 😊

It's really a good book Sara. Much better than the movie, IMO.

message 5446: by Ron (new)

Ron | 7 comments Hey I'm Ron. Been looking for an active group that reads classics. Main thing I enjoy when reading is thinking about and discussing characters, moments, and the book's world at large, and being able to relate those experiences written tens or hundreds of years ago in a completely different society to the present time & our own lives.

Outside of reading, I'm a web developer, and enjoy playing music & road biking.

Favorites oh man: gotta give it to Tale of Two Cities. Incredible book with so much densely packed material: you can give zoom in on any particular scene and there's so many interesting things to pick up on and close-read while also having in a macroscopic sense a captivating plot, an immersive dynamic setting and likable characters you end up gravitating towards and caring about.

Looking forward to meeting & reading with you guys!

Welcome Ron, this looks like a good group for you. We read and discuss classics every month. Just finished up A Tale of Two Cities -- so feel free to add to those discussions.

BAM doesn’t answer to her real name Howdy! I’m Bren, but most call me BAM, so I will answer to either. I’m an out of control bibliophile who reads several books at a time, usually at least four. I live in Louisville but have never been to the Derby. I’m a huge fan of classic literature. As soon as I bought my iPad I downloaded a ton of free stuff. When Borders when out of business I bought a clearance old skool Kobo for the 100 free classic novels preinstalled. I will read just about anything though and am always up for friend requests and book recommendations.
