E. | 3 comments Hi! I'm Ewa and I'm 21. My favourite classics are Hamlet and Mrs Dalloway but I wish to read more - as an English student I feel embarassed when I think of how few of them I've read ashgfv.
Usually I read fantasy, sci-fi, LGBT+ lit, and lately lots of sequential art. From non-fiction I like books about feminism, science, and language.
I hope this group will motivate me to read more classics! :)

Hi and welcome Ewa! You had me at your favorite classic is Hamlet! I absolutely loved the play and it's definitely one of my favorite William Shakespeare plays!

Trust me, our group does motivate readers to read and read and read so I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself here! Happy reading! 😊

kris Hi there! My name is Kirsten.

Really love the way this group is set up, and obviously moderated with care. I'm really excited to participate in the monthly picks, and I hope that this will help me to balance out my contemporary reading with some of my classic tastes. This group also serves as amazing masterlist of book recommendations. Thanks for all your work keeping this going!

Mel | 10 comments Welcome Kirsten, Ewa and Marina!

Kirsten, my TBR list exploded after checking out the groups here on Goodreads. I hope you found many new ones to pursue.

Ewa, I bet we have a ton of books in common with sci-fi/fantasy, linguistics, and feminist literature. I'm curious about which feminist books you felt stood out from the crowd.

Marina, I've also noticed I've been able to appreciate classics more as I've grown older. Not just classics, but also non-fiction too. Without a university class with whom to discuss books, it's nice to have these Goodreads groups.

I totally agree. Thanks for the warm welcome!

Laurene | 10 comments Hi! I'm Laurene. I live in a very small town in Northern Indiana. I am 1 1/2 hours from Chicago. I have lived in New Orleans, Dallas and Philadelphia. I am a wife -- mom -- avid reader -- avid gardener. I enjoy long distant walking with my german shepherds. I am a RN and LCSW. I challenged myself, in the beginning of this year to read more classics. I joined another group this year, Victorians, and have enjoyed it tremendously. Love reading the thoughts and hindsights of other members.

Tara (tara_incognita) Hi everybody, my name is Tara and I live in California. I was in this group on my old account, but haven't been active in here on my new(ish) one yet. However, I saw you guys were reading Faust this month, and since I recently finished the first part of that, I'm looking forward to discussing it, and thought I'd say howdy :)

I adore reading classics, and enjoy keeping up with this group's monthly reading choices. I'll try to be more active from now on. Happy reading, everyone :)

message 5375: by Chris (new)

Chris (lancelink) | 0 comments Hi. I'm Chris from the beautiful Blue Mountains in Australia. I like the look of your wide ranging monthly classics and anticipate the structure will help me focus on the classics each month. Currently reading The Brothers Karamazov which will take me to the end of March when I look forward to beginning the April schedule. Have already read Vanity Fair so perhaps I'll substitute another big book for the quarterly read.

message 5376: by Thorkell (new)

Thorkell Ottarsson I realized that I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Thorkell, born in Iceland, but live in Norway. I have written some books (mostly nonfiction), on e book of poetry and some short stories. These last years I have mainly been writing film scripts and making films.

I love classics, sci fi, nonfiction (politics, science, history) and a good drama. Once in a while I will dive into thrillers but it is the classics that are my main interest.

Favorite book? The Brothers Karamazov.

message 5377: by Pink (new)

Pink | 5491 comments Welcome Chris and Thorkell. I really need to read The Brothers K myself, but keep putting it off!

message 5378: by Thorkell (new)

Thorkell Ottarsson Hope it will be on picked as a book of the month Pink. Would love to read it again.

message 5379: by Pink (new)

Pink | 5491 comments We read it just a short while ago, but our discussion threads stay open if you'd like to take a look, or add your own thoughts. If it was shorter, I'd read it sooner, but I'm always snowed under with books and never seem to make time for it.

So glad to have you in the group, Chris and Thorkell. Like Pink said, be sure to check out our past group reads along with the current ones. If you comment on an older thread chances are someone else is reading too.

message 5381: by Laren (new)

Laren Greetings, my name is Laren (like Karen but with an ) and I live in Memphis, TN. I have been stuck in a children's book genre rut for "fun" reading while finishing my doctorate and recently was reminded I like other genres so I decided to give some challenges a try to help me fall back in love with big people books for fun too. Classics have always had a special place in my heart and I look forward to visiting old friends and meeting new ones in the pages. When I'm not reading or writing and editing, I'm teaching math to autistic children and adults. I'm also late to the goodreads game in general and still learning my way around. So far a lot better than my reading journal and WAY more interactive!

message 5382: by Pink (new)

Pink | 5491 comments Welcome Laren, it sounds like you've been kept busy, I'm surprised you've had any time for reading, even those fun children books! Goodreads is great for encouraging you to read different books and for interacting with other people. Discussing my favourite classics here is one of the best things about it! If you need any help with the group, or Goodreads, just ask :)

Hi Laren, so glad that you have joined us. When I first joined, I hadn't read a classic in years -- this group has definitely changed that.

message 5384: by Maike (new)

Maike de Jongh | 1 comments Hi readers! My name is Maike and I live in the Netherlands. I love to read, but I am way too busy studying math, dancing, running, playing chess and frequenting the cinema to make more progress than just a few pages a week. But this lively community of book enthusiasts will undoubtedly change this sad fact! I am looking forward to read along with you and I am going to do my best to keep up with the schedules :)
Oh, and favourites? Charles Dickens and Oscar Wilde

message 5385: by Pink (new)

Pink | 5491 comments Welcome to the group Maike. You certainly sound busy, but I'm glad you want to make some time for reading too. I hope you find encouragement with our group and discover some new favourite books :)

I want to read more classics so I joined this group in order to keep the goal. I'm also here to practice my english skill: feel free to correct my errors.
