Welcome Julie! Glad you are here with us.

Heather | 1 comments I'm very excited to have found this group. I absolutely love historical and classic books but am often not sure what titles to look for or end up "freezing" because there is so much out there and I don't know which title to start with. I'm looking forward to having some focus and reading these titles and getting to know everyone!

Dickens Dickens Dickens Dickens! Start with Great Expectations and go from there. The greatest closing paragraph to a book ever (and the rest is pretty awesome too). Don't get hung up on words you dont know, just let it bear you along...

...oh, and welcome to the group!

Chrissy Hi, I’m Chrissy from San Francisco. I’m doing lots of challenges, but try to include some classics every year too. This coming year, I already have plans to read Moby Dick, Rebecca, Watership Down, and maybe Madame Bovary.

For longer classics, I enjoyed using the Serial Reader app. Has anyone else tried it?

Thanks Rosemarie I really need to reread The Mayor of Casterbridge, it's probably my favourite Hardy. As for Lovecraft I really enjoyed his short story "The Dunwich Horror". I hope you enjoy his works.

Teija (neitit) | 8 comments Hi everyone!

My name is Teija, I am 26 years old and live in Finland.

I have majored in English language and culture at university, focusing on literature (linguistics is our other choice). So I've read a fair amount of classics but I really want to read more and this group seems great motivation! I am an avid reader and my favourite genres are (young adult) fantasy and horror. I found my way here from the "Around the year in 52 books" group, by the way :) My favourite classic is The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath.

This year I've been also busy taking care of my now 7 months old puppy!

Nice to meet you all!

indeed reading is like travelling - I am currently:
a) in a family in Pakistan (Salman Rushdie's Shame)
b) a dog pulling a sledge in the Klondike (The Call of the Wild)
c) a small-time crook on the run for a murder he didn't commit! (They Drive by Night)
phew! ;o)

oh, and I can't stop buying books either!

Cynda | 5260 comments This is the only place I know to take leave. Like a hello-and-goodbye place. I have enjoyed thensupport this group has provoded me this past year as I worked through works I found a bit more challenging in the long reads, such as War and Peace and Bleak House. Even one shorter work--Vindication of the Rights of Women.
This year I will read with another group to make my brain work differently, to challenge it.
Thank you for being a part of my journey.
Well Wishes for All

Nikki Stoltz | 1 comments hi, everyone. I’m Nikki. Like you all, I’m a devourer of books, particularly the classics (and other random topics ranging from the history of colors to forensic psychology). I’m a teacher, a doodler, a dog mom, and Oxford comma enthusiast. I’m excited to be a part of this group-I challenged myself to re-read many of the classics this year.

Can’t wait to connect with other bibliophiles. Cheers!

Talia Mazzarella (madcap_marginalia) | 4 comments Hi all! Joining this group because I was an English Lit major in undergrad, but my current line of work doesn't give me a lot of chances to nerd out over my favorite classic books with people. This looks like a great community and I'm looking forward to reading both the books and everyone's thoughts on them. (Especially any Russian lit, since it's a huge gap in my past reading life.)

I won't lie, seeing that on the group's TBR list was what convinced me to join :)
