Wow Katie, sounds like a 'fun' trip;P Sounds like you're well prepared though! You're lucky you can read in the car, I get car sick, so can do nothing but look out the window:( That's why I mainly do the driving!!

message 3655: by Adhityani (new)

Adhityani (dhitri) I am now reading Revolution Earth, which was sent to me by the author(s) to review. Blurb says it's a political thriller that spans across the globe deals with environmental issues. I think this may be more my husband's kind of book than mine, but the first chapter is pretty gripping, so this should be interesting!

message 3657: by [deleted user] (new)

Stuck in bed yesterday, so I had the chance to read: We Have Always Lived in the Castle. A great gothic novel! Also: Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, which was good, but slightly unsatisfying. Next up: The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making, and Them: Adventures with Extremists.

Reading this one now: Them: Adventures with Extremists. Love this writer's work!

"In this eye-opening portrait of extremist groups--75 percent of which are located in this country--Jon Ronson takes readers inside the hearts and minds of people often summarily dismissed as kooks and crazies."

Shona (shonahusk) I've just read Thief of Light (The Four-Sided Pentacle, #2) by Denise Rossetti, it's erotic fantasy romance and a great read. Next on my list is The Kingdom by
Amanda Stevens. It's book 2 in a creepy series centered around a graveyard restorer who sees ghosts.

I read Lovely Bones a while ago now and it had a profound impact on me at the time. I had just experienced a death in my family and it was a wonderful relief to know that other people share my belief that we 'hang around to make sure everything is ok' for some time after we die. Whew! It is not the end...just the start of a new journey.

Tracey Alley (traceya) | 485 comments I just finished reading Double Bind by Seb Kirby and I could not put it down. I really enjoy a well-written thriller, especially one with a bit of a twist as this one does. I've already posted a couple of 5 star reviews but if you like thrillers I cannot recommend this highly enough.

message 3687: by Adhityani (new)

Adhityani (dhitri) Currently reading Bring Up the Bodies by Hilary Mantel - the sequel to her Booker prize winning book Wolf Hall, a historical fiction about the rise of Thomas Cromwell in Tudor England (and his role in securing King Henry's marriage to Anne Boleyn, which led to England breaking away from Rome and forming its own Church).

"Bring up the Bodies' sort of chronicles the fall of Anne Boleyn (from the point of view of Thomas Cromwell). First chapter already looks promising! Medieval era court politics never fail to amaze me. All that plotting and scheming are just epic! I love Mantel's style of writing, it gives you a good feel of the era without being verbose or excessively dramatic.

Mark I'm currently reading an ibuprofen label. I've just reached the interesting part wherein I am enjoined not to take it in conjunction with other NSAID's or hemlock. Oh, and I'm also reading Get It Done When You're Depressed by Julie A. Fast, but I can't seem to make any headway.

Nicola, I haven't read it, but looking at the reviews, there are a lot of people on either side of the fence about it. It seems to me it's either one you love, or not. And everyone's opinions are different (thankfully), hence you might enjoy it immensely, while Jess didn't!

I don't think I have EVER seen a book with consistent 4 or 5 stars....or 1 or 2 stars! I think it would be boring if that was the case, as there would be no interesting discussion about the book...

Mark Nicola - To be fair, I haven't read the book, but Jess' review is hilarious! I'm inclined to think she couldn't possibly have been inspired to write so brilliant a put-down of the author if she hadn't been genuinely revolted by the product. Also, to be fairer, I've now downloaded the free sample from Amazon, and the writing does seem incredibly fatuous and hackneyed (to me). But de gustibus, and all that, and ym may certainty v.
