Last comment mentions that the OP confirmed the book found.

Looks like OP left the group: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
If the OP leaves the group, we move it to "Abandoned" rather than NWNK, because they can always rejoin the group. NWNK is when their whole account is deleted.

What type of spam did you see? Is this the correct link? (Noting that a username and posts can change in 5 hours.)

It was the correct link; I guess he removed it himself. It was in about four posts.

Edit: some in various solved folders as well.
Thanks for reporting advertising spam, SamSpayedPI. My guess is Goodreads removed their account.

Technical note: When there are duplicate versions of a book, sometimes Goodreads doesn't allow us to shelve a specific ISBN. We have to shelve the "default" version that appears in the Goodreads form. This is the case for message 527.

Thanks again, SamPlayedPl. These types of promotional posts are not allowed in the group.

You changed it before, though. And I was able to mark it as "about" the correct edition in the header.
As I said, the last time I attempted to add that specific edition, Goodreads pushed another edition. Moderators tend to shelf the "default" edition because it avoids duplication in the group bookshelf. Removing duplicates from our bookshelf is a time-consuming process. One reason the edition of a shelved book is later changed by a Mod is we're removing a duplicate book.

Is there any way to prevent them from joining in the first place? I realize this group has to be open, because of its purpose, but can the moderators ban new members based on their IP address or something?

Those spam posts are certainly not allowed in this group. We block/ban those accounts as soon as possible.
Unfortunately we can't pre-ban someone from joining this large group on such an active site. Please use this "Members - You can help others!" thread to let us know when you spot this type of violation. A moderator will ban the account within a day.
You can also let Goodreads know using their Contact Us form -- select "Report spam or abuse" -- https://www.goodreads.com/about/conta... Chances are other groups have been spammed and the account will be deleted that much faster.

I guess I'm assuming it's the same people coming back again and again. I'm sure they create new Goodreads profiles, but they probably are using the same IP addresses, so if the moderators had or could get that information from known spammers, they can block them that way.
I've stopped reporting them here, since by the time the moderators get to them they've usually been blocked by the Goodreads administrators. I just flag them directly.
To everyone, please feel free to report spam posts in this thread. Sometimes a spammer only posts in this group or not widely on the site. In this case, one of our moderators tends to ban this account before Goodreads deals with it.
You can also notify Goodreads using their Contact Us form - select "Report spam or abuse" - https://www.goodreads.com/about/conta... Often other groups have been spammed and the account will be deleted that much faster. Thanks for your help.

I'll do that in the future. I've been flagging them as spam.

They probably are using the same computer / same IP address, however to find out the IP address is like hacker stuff. Unfortunately, for the none hacker, there just isn't a way to 'pre' block a profile. I mean, I don't think you could. Sure, you'd have the IP address of that person, but how to block the address? GR can only remove profiles... Again coming back to, you can only block someone if you know their GR profile ID.
So, basically, I agree with Kris. It might not be the fastest way, but for us who know basic computer skills, it is the best way lol

#547. Goodreads appears to have deleted those comments. Thanks Ann.
Btw, it's good to include a link to the member's profile page.

First two spammers are blocked and reported.
Third spammer is already deleted by Goodreads.

But there's also a weird sort of high-jacky post from Jay in one of AThousandTales' unsolved posts.
