Ted, I've read some on your list - loved The Luminaries, related to it particularly because I grew up in New Zealand, and it's setting in Hokitika was/is familiar to me.Yes to Michelle Obama's "Becoming." I'll also what I can do to read the others before the end of year.

i added L.P. Hartley's The Go-Between. the preceding books were listed by other posters before me. but i'm a fan of authors Daphne Clair and Susan Napier who are both from new zealand.
