Sharyl wrote: "I am finally reading All the Light We Cannot See. I've been looking forward to it for quite awhile."I just picked this up from the library yesterday. I've waited 2 months, I was #55 in line. I have to finish the two books I'm reading now first so I hope to read it first of June.
The Nine Steps to Financial Freedom by Suze Orman – 3*** The subtitle of this book is: Practical & Spiritual Steps So You Can Stop Worrying. Orman includes practical information and clear, understandable definitions of various terms.

Sharyl wrote: "I've recently started The Magician's Assistant, by Ann Patchett and am really getting into it :)"Sharyl, glad that you enjoy Ann Patchett. I think "The Magician's Assistant" was the third book by her that I've read and I've found interesting things in all of them.
So far this month i have finished
,
,
,
,
and
. I am now reading
and should have it done by tonight. I am also reading
and i want to have that done by tomorrow. I am also reading
and
.
And the Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini – 4**** Hosseini is a great storyteller. This is his most ambitious novel, covering several generations over six decades and across continents from Afghanistan to Paris to San Francisco to Greece. There are many heart-wrenching scenes that echo what happens to Pari and Abdullah, the two motherless siblings whose story bookends this novel, but however far apart – in terms of time, or distance, or relationship – these stories are, they are all connected. His central theme is the moral complexity of life. The audio features three skilled narrators: Khaled Hosseini, Shohreh Aghdashloo and Navid Negahban.

and
. I am now trying to finish
and
so i can start reading other books for June. I am very excited about this month. :)
To Live & Die in Dixie by Kathy Hogan Trochek – 3*** Former Atlanta police officer Callaghan Garrity runs The House Mouse, a professional maid service, and also dabbles in private investigation. This is a fast-paced, well-plotted cozy mystery. I like Callaghan – she’s intelligent, resourceful, strong, and professional.

I read Predator One and Cycle of the Werewolf. I timed it pretty good so that this morning I could start Finders Keepers.
I am currently reading In the Unlikely Event by Judy Blume and listening to The Whites by Richard Price.
Murder Past Due by Miranda James – 3*** Librarian Charlie Harris is well known in Athena, Mississippi, not least because he walks his Maine Coon cat, Deisel, around town on a leash. When a home-town boy turned famous author returns for a reception, however, Charlie finds himself in the middle of a murder investigation. This is a decent cozy mystery, with a likeable main character.

Fallon wrote: "I just started The Goldfinch and loving it already!!"I want to read the Goldfinch too! But I went on a book splurge last weekend and have to work through some of the books I already have. Right now, I'm reading Robert Crais' Voodoo River.
I finally finished
and i am surprised by how much i enjoyed it. I am now trying to finish up
so i can start
tomorrow. I am also reading
,
,
and
. I am enjoying all of them but i am having a hard time on which one i want to focus on first. :)
True Grit by Charles Portis – 5***** 14-year-old Mattie Ross hires Marshall Rooster Cogburn to track the man who killed her father. As Mattie tells the tale we see her outmaneuver, out bargain, and outsmart the hard men and women she encounters. Her indestructible vitality and basic innocence by turns amuse, horrify and touch the reader. Donna Tartt does a fine job narrating the audio book.

I just finished Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard. I'm starting to " The Knife of Never Letting Go" by Patrick Ness.
Have finished Voodoo River by Robert Crais and thoroughly enjoyed it. My review can be found here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...Also madly reading through Fallen Into the Pit by Ellis Peters and can't wait to find out who is the murderer!
I'm currently reading (and loving) a selection of Hunter S. Thompson's letters from 1958-1976. I think they were published in English under the title "Proud Highway"
Serena by Ron Rash – 5***** In 1929 George Pemberton brings his new wife, Serena, back from Boston to North Carolina, where they plan to make their fortune in timber. Lady MacBeth has nothing on Serena. I can’t remember when I loved reading a book about a character I disliked so much. Serena is fascinating. I liked how Rash incorporated the history of the era, giving the novel a strong sense of time and place. Phil Gigante does a wonderful job performing the audio book.

Spent most of the weekend reading The Blood of Olympus by Rick Riordan -- only about 100 pages to go!
I finally finished
and it wasn't as good as i thought it would be. :( I just got my copy of
and i also plan on getting
and i am still working my way through
. I am having a hard time trying to decide on which one i want to focus on first. :)
Fallon wrote: "I just started The Goldfinch and loving it already!!"I'm probably about 2/3 of the way through The Goldfinch and am enjoying it a lot as well.
I read the Knife of Never Letting Go not that long ago and I'm going to read the amber spyglass soon

Reading a cozy mystery, Reading Shakespeare. Still waiting on The Martian (since 4/22). Hope it's worth the wait and I shouldn't complain since it's a download from the library.
Until the Real Thing Comes Along by Elizabeth Berg – 2** I really wanted to like this. I’ve read a number of Berg’s books and liked them all. She has a gift for dialogue and for letting the reader into her character’s lives and motivations. But … Patty’s complete inability to move on with her life just irritates the heck out of me. I didn’t care what happened to her. I WAS interested in the story with her parents, and wish Berg had explored that storyline.

Next up is Cloud Atlas.

Just finished Red Sky, 5 *****'s!!!! I loved this book! What a crazy, funny town full of people. Josh, at 17 years old, seemed to be the only mature one lol! I will probably read this one again in the future.
No! I Don’t Want to Join a Book Club by Virginia Ironside – 3*** Subtitle: Diary of a 60th Year, which pretty well sums up the (non)plot of this charming little novel. Marie Sharp is turning 60 and she’s a little cranky. She’s perfectly content with her age and doesn’t need advice on how to look and feel younger, thank you very much. This was slow to get started, but the diary style grew on me, as did Marie. I think I recognized several of my own friends in her.

SOOOOoo glad you loved it. It's one of my favorites ... introduced to me by my mother. It was out of print for a long time and I was so sad about that. So glad that it's back it print and a new generation of readers is discovering this novel.

I borrowed it from the library, but if I ever run across a copy I'm definitely buying it.
Jaws by Peter Benchley – 4**** A great white shark is terrorizing the residents of a Long Island community that relies on summer visitors for its economic health. I've read this book twice previously, and the rating is based on my first impression. I listened to the audio this time around, capably narrated by Erik Steele. I was struck by how long it takes for the shark hunt to happen, and how much time is spent on the political and marital difficulties that Sheriff Brody has to navigate before he even gets out on the water.

I've just finished reading Anthony Doerr's novel, "All the Light we Cannot See," and thought it one of the best novels I've ever read; the finest writing. I know it's been discussed on this site before, but I decided - hopefully not permanently - that I will never write another word, for how can I, or anyone, come close to this ...
