The newest book, Flashback, came out thirteen days ago!!! In my opinion, the books get better after the first, and they are definitely are less like everyone says the first book is -- a copy of Harry Potter.

What's Thanksgiving like in your household? I don't celebrate it since I live in England but I'm curious to see how you guys celebrate it.
The tradition for most families is to have a big meal with turkey, stuffing, cranberries, and a bunch of other stuff. Usually family and friends all get together for the meal. Sometimes people will watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade or play a family game of American football called the Turkey Bowl.And of course, we celebrate by remembering to be thankful! :-)

We don't have much to celebrate which is why most of us were celebrating Christmas at the beginning of November, which is insane.

It was a huge debate in my classroom.
Some said that Christmas time lasted from Halloween till Christmas, some said that after Thanksgiving it was Christmas time, and some said that Christmas didn't start until December. And there was a little bit of "Christmas doesn't start until Christmas," but that was mostly a joke.
ha. Well for me, I start listening to Christmassy music, put Christmas tree up, start reading Christmassy books etc. on around the 16th December. Or on Christmas eve but that's a little too late for my taste. But then we keep doing Christmassy things until mid January so.... :P

Hi everyone, it's the day before the best month of the year! Who else is so ready for November to be over already?
Ikr? Also, at my school we have had 8 -- EIGHT -- yes, 8, days of school off this month, besides weekends, spread across three separate weeks this month. That really made this month seem even longer. It hasn't been the greatest month of my life, let me tell you.

So. Who celebrates CHRISTmas, and who celebrates X-mas?
I celebrate Christmas for sure, but actually did you know that the origin of shortening Christmas to Xmas was not to X out the Christ? The x represents the first letter in the word Χριστός, pronounced like Khristos, which means "Christ" in Greek. Look up "origin of Xmas" if you don't believe me.
I celebrate Christmas though I am unsure that there was 3 wise men because the bible never gives a number of wise men.
Yes, that's debated a lot. Three is the traditional number because they gave three gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh. But it could have been anywhere from two to... well, however many Wise Men the East had! Also, I always cringe when I see Wise Men in a nativity scene, because they weren't actually there the night of Jesus's birth according to the Bible. It was probably actually 1-2 years after Jesus was born.

oOf this is why I don't like conversations with more than 2 people: I want to comment on something, but others have already practically buried it in new comments by the time I see it
Ikr? Sometimes I'll be like, "oh, that's a cool topic" and then I see like seven comments after it about something completely random and unrelated. But if you want to comment on something farther back I don't think anyone will care if you start up that conversation again!
So it's almost my birthday, yay. But I have always hated having a birthday in winter. Is that just me? It's way too close to Christmas, I mean, if I even have a party it's usually winter or Christmas themed. It's like I celebrate Christmas twice within 25 days.
oOf, my cousin has a similar problem. His b-day is only 2 days after Christmas, which means we go to his house for Christmas(his family has the biggest house on my mom's side, so it works well for that), then the day after that we go back because we don't feel like making him have crab and steak for his birthday dinner year after year.
Oof. Yeah, to anyone with a birthday not anywhere close to Christmas, feel very lucky.

I used to write xmas in texts because it's just quicker to type. I also thought that the x in it was meant to be a sideways cross as to represent Christ's cross in the Passion. But the whole Greek explanation makes much more sense.
Hi! And yeah, LydiaMae some people think that the x in Xmas is used to X out the Christ, but actually the way you were using it is the way Xmas was intended to be used: a short version. It's like saying B-day instead of birthday.
