REVIEW

WOW! What a way to end of book! I am so glad that I waited as long as I did to read this book, because had I read this one as soon as I got it I would have screamed at this ending and been so annoyed at having to wait so long to read the third and final book!

Demons is the second book Seers trilogy and it picks up right where Seers left off.

Lee and Toni were even more fun in this book. I'm not sure how that's possible, but it's true.

The relationship between Patrick and Kate while great is a little too much on the physical side, they kiss a lot, of which I would have preferred there be less. They haven't know one another all that long and it just seemed like too much, too soon. Yes, in the first book they went through a lot of intense things together, but I still didn't like have quickly that part of their relationship progressed - though I was glad that all they did was kiss. I also felt really badly for Aaron. Here his girlfriend breaks up with him and not even a full week later she's super affectionate with another guy.

My favorite parts of this book were the flashback scenes in Ireland. I love seeing Patrick while he was still mortal. I'm hoping that there will be more of these in the final book.

I also loved the lack of bad language. When a character cursed all it would say is something like "he cursed" or "he used colorful language". And when actual words were used it was things like "Oh my Oreos" or "darn". I know some people might not appreciate this, but I think cursing in books is completely unnecessary and this books is one of many that shows you don't need it in there to convey the same meaning.

If you've read Seers and plan on reading Demons be prepared to want to read the next book immediately after finishing this one.

Book: Magic Rises by Ilona Andrews
Series: Kate Daniels #6
Shelf: Supernatural
Read: 8/3/2013
Rate: ★★★★★

Review:
This is one of my absolute favorite series and this edition didn't disappoint. The children of the pack are always in danger of going loup and so many of the shifter parents have to kill their children when they are afflicted. So when the opportunity to acquire the much needed "panacea" cure is offered, Kate and company are willing to travel to Europe to exchange guard service for the cure knowing that it is a trap set up for Kate. Her daddy's right hand man has found her and pulling the strings of the largest packs in Europe. Plenty of action, ties in the pack are challenged and grow stronger. Curran is pursued by a wolf clan princess which causes some jealous tension. Kate makes some new powerful friends and enemies. All leads up to a bittersweet but awesome ending...

Skandia (sfgirl) | 780 comments Close Encounters of the Sexy Kind by Karen Kelley
Book: Close Encounters of the Sexy Kind by Karen Kelley
Series: Planet Nerak #1
Shelf: Aliens
Read: 8/4/2013
Rate: ★★★★

I didn't expect much when I picked up this book but I have always been fascinated by books about aliens living among humans, so I gave it a try.
Oh boy, was I surprised in a very good way!
This book was funny, well written and characters were very likable and if the story faltered in some parts, it didn't distract me at all.

Mala was an alien woman from the planet Nerak where only women lived and they used for their needs a companion units designed to fulfill their every wish.
At Nerak there was always peace and nobody caused trouble, it was boring, so Mala wondered -
"What would it be like to live on Earth where you
could have animals and space? Where you could
eat chocolate and have sex whenever you liked? It
was paradise"
So she took a spacecraft and came looking for an Earth man.
And the fun started with her experiencing different feelings, food, animals and people on Earth.

I will continue the series for sure and if you like aliens then this is the book to pick up for a light fun reading.

Shelf: Supernatural
Finished on August 2nd

REVIEW

I've never read any of the Temperance Brennan novels, been meaning to but just haven't yet, but if they're anything like this book I'll have to read them soon!

There's a bit of foul language in this book, not that much and honestly it didn't bother me all that much, but if it's something you try to avoid completely this book isn't for you.

I thought that Tory had a bit too much knowledge for her age. She's only fourteen, but she's able to identify the gender and age of a skeleton extremely quick. I don't care how smart she is, not having any in the field experience it should have taken her longer...in my opinion.

I plan on reading the next novel in the Virals series soon.

Sherri | 781 comments Week 5: Angels & Demons
Book: Tricked by Kevin Hearne
Finished: 7/13/13
Rating: ★★★★1/2

This one is another great addition to The Iron Druid series. In Tricked, Atticus and Granuaille have managed to move on from the events of Hammered and trying to find a path on their new life. As part of that new life, Atticus ends up owing a favor to Coyote; not a wise thing to do, as you just know that trickster has something up his sleeve. Yep he does and that is the basis for the storyline of Tricked.

The great thing about Tricked is Atticus finally opening himself up for more than a lasting relationship with his dog Oberon. We also learn details of Atticus’s past and understand better why relationships are difficult for him. The interaction between Atticus and Granuaille is slowly evolving from mentor/student to “I’m interested in you but shouldn’t be/I’m interested in You". I’m not entirely sold on a relationship between the two of them; sparks just aren’t there for me.

Overall, Tricked has tons of actions, twists and turns, and I loved them all.

Sherri | 781 comments Week 6: Dystopian
Book: Poison Princess by Kresley Cole
Finished: 7/11/13
Rating: ★★★★★

Wow, wow, wow!! Absolutely amazing! I was riveted to this story from the beginning. The world building is exceptional; the characters unique, as well as the whole premise for the novel. So

Poison Princess is set in a future apocalyptic world. The apocalypse is relatively new and things are settling into a “new” world. Evie has been pretty much protected by her mother and is truly a babe in the forest. Jack is an old soul in a young man’s body. He has seen too much and been through too much, even before the apocalypse. Evie and Jack initially met in high school and their very dissimilar worlds is a hugh barrier initially, but an apocalypse has a way of changing things and Evie struggles to reconcile what used to be with what is.

I’m going to say very little about the storyline here, mainly because anything I write will just ruin it. Needless to say, Evie’s and Jack’s relationship and struggles are intense and emotional and they are left at the end of Poison Princess with a wider bridge between them, than when they were in high school.

I’ve already ordered my copy of Endless Knight, the next book in the series. No release date for it yet, but I just do not want to miss any of this series.

Sherri | 781 comments Last review for now.

Week 7: Aliens
Book: Grimspace by Ann Aguirre
Finished: 8/1/13
Rating: ★★★★

Grimspace is the first book in the Sirantha Jax series, a science fiction series about rouge jumper Sirantha Jax. She has a unique genetic trait that allows her to “jump” spaceships over great distances in a short amount of time. Jax is one of the best jumpers and unfortunately was involved in an incident that leaves her in a precarious situation. Enter March to spring her from her imprisonment and give her a shot at a new life.

The first couple of chapters start out with a lot of action and a lot of information thrown at you. It may seem like a lot but hang in there and you will be entertained with a first class science fiction (with a bit of romance) book! The relationship between Jax and March develops quickly but the authors explanation of the link between a pilot and jumper explains this (although I am left wondering if all pilots get it on with there with jumpers just because of the bond), the secondary cast of characters is superb, and the plot developments had me engaged through the entire novel.

If you are an urban fantasy, paranormal romance reader than this is one series you may want to look at as it has some of the elements of those genres woven into it, even though it is science fiction based.

Lis | 4037 comments Go Sherri!

I've got a couple of picks for Tortured Hero and plan on taking them for a mini spin to see which one sticks. Since I just finished a couple of UFs I'm leaning towards a romance to cleanse the reading palette...

Rise of the Fallen (AKM, #1) by Donya Lynne The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden (The Coincidence, #1) by Jessica Sorensen Surrender (MacKinnon’s Rangers, #1) by Pamela Clare are a couple on the short list.

Book: Succubus on Top by Richelle Mead
Series: Georgina Kincaid #2
Shelf: Angels & Demons
Read: 8/7/2013
Rate: ★★★★

This was very different from the first book in series. Not much supernatural action but mostly about Georgina's and Seth's relationship.
Georgina tries to find out a way to be in real relationship with a mortal writer Seth without hurting him with her succubus powers.
There is some subpolt with her bookstore co-workers getting into trouble with immortal drugs but the action there is really minimum, too.

I must say this book was not less interesting than the action packed first book in series. I really enjoyed reading about the development of love story between Georgina and Seth.

Book: The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden by Jessica Sorensen
Series: The Coincident #1
Shelf: Tortured Hero
Read: 8/9/2013
Rate: ★★★★

Review: This was a very fast drama filled read that focuses on Callie and Kayden who escape their homes for college, both trying to overcome the emotional scars they carry from their childhood. They both are from the same town but barely acknowledged each other until one fateful night and Callie steps in and probably saves Kayden's life. College transforms Callie along with her sidekick Seth who creates a bucket list if things they must accomplish. With the support of Seth she finds the courage to open herself up to Kayden and allows him to get close. Kayden is just going thru the motions of life, hiding his family secret of abuse and surprisingly finds that there is more to life with Callie. This was not a light read but deals with the dark topics of rape, abuse, bulimia, cutting, gay bashing, alcoholism, bullying, etc. This story is also interwoven with the romance of two broken teens who find the courage to trust and love. I plan to continue with this series.
