K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) | 1702 comments So in Round 3 we're just waiting for Sandra, Brannon, Jennifer, and Philip.

And in Round 4, just Glyn, Brannon, A.K., Jennifer, and Philip...

Almost there, folks!

message 209: by K.A. (new)

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) | 1702 comments Just three days to go before the end of this Group, folks.

Please remember, if you are going to be late with a review, but are still planning to do it, you must contact your reviewee and let him/her know.

We still have two outstanding reviews (and I don't mean good!) in Round Two, four in Round Three, and five in Round Four.

Nicolas Wilson | 75 comments Already? Crap, I've lost track. Don't think I've heard from the person who's supposed to do my last review, to get him a copy. I'll be in touch to see if you've heard from him, K.A..

message 211: by Glyn (new)

Glyn Smith-Wild (goodreadscomlasanctuaire) | 10 comments Here's my review of Reality Challenged by Ubiquitous Bubba.

http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...

Firstly, let me say that I am not regular reader of fantasy novels. Because of that, this book was way outside my comfort reading zone, and I did contact the author telling him that it would be unfair of me to review his book. I just wasn't grabbed by it.

So, what I have decided to do is to look at the writing, as far as I can, from a fantasy reader's point of view.

The two young characters were well portrayed and almost believable, and where I could follow it and the descriptive passages were succinct enough to follow the storyline. One has to question the apparently random use of capital letters - maybe there was a pattern to this, but I couldn't see it.

For a fantasy addict, it could be be that the omnipotent style of writing was acceptable, but for me there was little depth to it.

I won't be posting this review to Amazon, unless of course you want me to Ubiquitous, as it may appear to be a damning piece, and I don't want it to be that.

message 212: by K.A. (new)

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) | 1702 comments Thanks, Glyn. I, too, have read many books that weren't in the genre that I would have chosen for myself, but you just have to look at the writing itself and the composition and how things are put together. We all get into this group knowing what we are signing up for, so it shouldn't be a surprise that not everybody's going to like everything here!

message 213: by A.K. (new)

A.K. (akbutler) | 4 comments Hey guys! Sorry I'm late. I had some family stuff going on and was without internet for a bit - I've posted my missing two reviews, though I can't get a link to them! :( The two reviews were for The Battle of Chibi and Leaving Traces, they are there but I'm not at a computer and I can't get a link to work from my device, I'm sorry. Thank y'all! :)

message 216: by A.K. (new)

A.K. (akbutler) | 4 comments It was for "Between Time and Stars" - there were several stories to choose from. I also cross posted to Amazon and Smashwords. I'm sorry, my computer won't have Internet for a while and my phone won't let me get the right link for some reason. :/

message 217: by K.A. (new)

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) | 1702 comments OK, I had trouble finding it because there's a plethora from which to choose - I'll see if I can find it later.

message 218: by Alison (new)

Alison Cubitt (httpgoodreadscomlambertnagle) | 83 comments We're about to re-enrol into Kobo having just come out of KDP Select and would really appreciate receiving our fourth and final review for Revolution Earth. I find it a struggle to get reviews from readers. We haven't heard from our reviewer and don't know whether or not she intends to review.

Alison & Sean

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) | 1702 comments Hi, Lambert. this is who I have still outstanding, according to my rrecords:

Round 2:
Philip

Round 3:
Sandra (?)
Brannon
Jennifer
Philip

Round 4:
Brannon
Jennifer
Philip

Jennifer is the one you're missing, right? Have you tried contacting her via PM? If you have, and you haven't gotten a reply, I'd say you're not going to get one at this point. Several people are missing a review, as is common at the end of one of these rounds, unfortunately.

What people have done in the past is set up a thread in the General and Registered Readers section asking for reviews to fill in where they've been shorted. This usually works pretty well. If you want to do that, we'll see what we can do to get it on the front page for a while.

Jennifer Moreland (jmoreland77) | 16 comments Hi, all -- as I told Alison, sometimes life puts you behind on things. Thanks Jennifer - really glad you liked the language, pacing and plot. Sorry about the use of the vernacular ....and the sex...

That I think reflects the cultural differences between our countries. We are, after all divided by a common language! Our characters are Brits, Kiwis and Aussies, who do tend to use vernacular and swear words in public more than perhaps Americans do.

message 226: by K.A. (new)

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) | 1702 comments Depends on the American. I know someone who drops the f-bomb every third word. Makes it difficult to follow his train of thought.

Jennifer Moreland (jmoreland77) | 16 comments All very true. When I lived in Germany as a child, I did get used to seeing full nudity on ads in the grocery store, though. :) lol Just, you know, my mom reads the books I recommend. :D I have to take things into account.

They certainly swear a lot in American movies and on my current favourite show, Breaking Bad!:)

message 229: by Nicolas (last edited Aug 30, 2013 12:04PM) (new)

Nicolas Wilson | 75 comments Another American, chiming in to say that some of us really like our @#$(*&%&@(*! swear words. I'm surprised every time I get a review that doesn't mention the adult language in my work, since most of the time that's the first thing people comment on.

Point being, it depends a lot on the American doing the reading, and the American doing the writing, how much cursing is tolerable.

message 231: by William (new)

William Dickerson | 7 comments I only mentioned the swearing because I know a lot of people that would pick it up based on a good review and then complain about the language forever. (I certainly thought it fit with your character and story.)

There's an outfit group called Barking Mad who helped me when the local council tried to fine me for the crime of allowing my dog to swim in the sea on a deserted beach in winter at 6.30am!
