Thanks, Annie. A marketing genius? I wish! True I wanted readers of 'Sanctuary' to follow the story further in 'Repercussions' and the idea of adding chapter one of the next book is neither new or unique. Anyway, thanks for your kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed it enough to consider buying the sequel. But be warned, there's the final part 'The Reckoning' which is hopefully being published in November!

Glyn Smith-Wild (goodreadscomlasanctuaire) | 10 comments The Burning of Cherry Hill by A.K. Butler

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/16...

Here's my review of The Burning of Cherry Hill.

I really don't know how to review this book. It is not my favourite genre and at first I didn't think I was going to enjoy it at all. However, once the story got going I was drawn in because of the two main characters. The story line was vibrant, exciting and almost believable. Whilst the plight of the two youngsters made me read on, I got a bit bored with the repetitive torture scenes, the blood and gore.
Having said all that, I think the story was well constructed, and the characters came across well. If the story line could have been set in an era that I could relate to, I would have enjoyed it much more.

Nicolas Wilson | 75 comments Thanks for the review Annie.

Can I ask if you remember any of the missing words or conflicting tenses you commented on? I'd love to get them fixed, if I can. My editor has been complaining for months about the dropped words, and we're wondering if it's a corruption in the file or something, since it's stuff that we both swore we already remembered correcting. We've both been noticing randomly dropped words in the drafts sent back and forth.

Annie, I just uploaded a newly edited version of Cinderella Shoes. I'm hoping I caught all of the errors you saw. I've sent my other collections back to be re-edited too, since I'm not quite sure why text information was being dropped in between drafts. For some of them, it seems to be a problem associated with copy-pasting large text blocks(like full chapters) from other documents, but that doesn't explain all of it. I'm hoping to get a different, more reliable, word processing program to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Thanks for bringing them to my attention!

message 178: by Nicolas (last edited Jul 13, 2013 12:38PM) (new)

Nicolas Wilson | 75 comments I just gifted you the new Amazon copy.

I still want to go over it again, once I've figured out the hardware problems that have been happening, since I don't know the extent of the file problems to know if it'll lose information again. Let me know if you notice other specific spots, and I can compare them to my current files, and try again to fix it. I'm hoping it's just a problem because I use an off-brand version of Word, that doesn't always play nice. It's still frustrating, since I've spent ten times as long proofreading things, trying to track down the erroneous file changes. Yuck.

Thanks, again.

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) | 1702 comments How're we doing here, folks? Still got about ten days in Round 3, which ends August 3. Looks like we still need six reviews from Round 2 posted. I know some of that is due to some books being read out of order for various reasons, which is fine. Nine people have posted reviews for Round 3 already, way to go! Keep it going, folks, we started this Group on a roll, let's show 'em what we have!

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) | 1702 comments For those of you who aren't aware, this group created an anthology, hopefully the first in a line, of short stories, with the intent being to raise money for a charity, WaterAid. The anthology was edited and organized and conceived by moderator Jay Howard. It's available for free download, with a suggestion that you donate to WaterAid if you like it. Here's the link:

If you're interested in getting involved in this in the future, watch the threads for the call!

message 190: by Glyn (new)

Glyn Smith-Wild (goodreadscomlasanctuaire) | 10 comments Hi, Jay. I have just sent a message to Ubiquitous Bubba regarding my reviewing his book. I have done so because I don't think it would be fair for me to assess his writing prowess when I do not understand his genre sufficiently to be able to make such comments. I wonder if other reviewers are having similar difficulties? Perhaps writers/reviewers should be matched by genre?

"

message 191: by K.A. (new)

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) | 1702 comments Glyn, there's no way any of the mods have time to match people by genre, even if it was possible (we get a lot more books in certain genres than in others). We are all people with full-time other jobs and work. As far as reviewing something not in your genre, I've done it a bunch of times here. You review it on the writing quality, not on whether it floats your boat. You can even mention in your review that you don't usually read in this genre. But that's what we sign up for when we join this group - you takes what you gets, to quote Popeye! If you don't review one of your assigned books, you short someone out of the reviews they deserve, having done their own. Remember that although awesome reviews are nice, the NUMBER of reviews also counts to boost your book on Amazon, too.

Just wanted to say, K.A. how much I appreciate all the work the moderators put in to this review thread. It's been a great experience and I'd recommend it to anyone else out there looking to have a thorough, non-reciprocal review. Alison LN

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) | 1702 comments Thanks, ALN - Jay has done such a great job organizing it that it's easier to deal with than it otherwise would be. We all participate as authors, too, so we get out of it what we put in!
