How was it? I have that one.

I'm still early into Pretty Girls but I hope I like it, I have heard good things about the book.

How was Cop land, Rhian... worth the read? I always value your opinion. You haven't steered me wrong yet, though you have taken my down some pretty dark pathways. BTW: If you want something really different, try Norse Mythology, though it is just that, a set of Norse Myths retold in the inimitable Neil Gaiman style. His reading is fabulous.

ElleEm | 260 comments I'm in the middle of City of Mirrors, the last of the Passage trilogy. This one may be even better than the Passage.

I read Pretty Girls on Nick's recommendation and it was really good. Nick wasn't lying when he said it was dark! I will definitely check out more of her books.

I can't remember if I told you this, but I quickly read Norse Mythology because I was seeing Gaiman speak and I didn't really enjoy it. He read a story from it at the event and it was as if a lightbulb went off. It was funny! I had read it (inside voice) very dry. I want to listen to him read it himself so I can laugh along!

I haven't read too many Gaiman books, I liked American Gods and The Ocean at the End of the Lane. (Haven't read Stardust). My favorite is Anansi Boys. In fact, it's way up on my list of favorite books of all time... by anyone. But it IS a screwball comedy about African tribal Gods, An uptight Carribean guy living in London, unhappy about the fact that his fiancee won't sleep with him and regretting that he's really the descendant of an ancient spider god. It has one of the best openings of all time, I think.

"It begins as most things begin, with a song. In the beginning, after all, were the words, and they came with a tune."

The beauty of books is the story never has to end you can always start over again. You would be surprised what you miss the first time around. I have read Lord of the ring trilogy six times at least and still find little bit I missed or may have miss fired in my brain.

Beagle Lover (Avid Reader) (beaglelover55) In the middle of "The Raven Boys" and it's very good. Held my interest from page 1.

message 4663: by Claire (new)

Claire I just read The Shining and Doctor Sleep in quick succession. Followed up with NOS4A2 by Joe Hill (I loved the mention of the True Knot). Then I read 'Salem's Lot in a few days.

Just started Tales of Neveryon by Samuel R. Delany.

I'm also reading Wolfsangel by M. D. Lachlan but I'm having a hard time sticking with it.

I was thinking about starting The Gunslinger. Nervous for some reason. One thing I love about Stephen King, is that no matter what you may think you're starting, or what preconceived notions you have of his novels, they all too often surprise you.

I really love Neil Gaiman. American Gods is one of my favorite books of all time (and I have never been as excited for a book adaptation as I am about the American Gods tv series premiering in 4 days. It looks like they are really doing everything right).

I haven't read sequel Anansi Boys yet, but it's high on my to-read list. If you like Neil Gamain when he's funny, the book he did with Terry Pratchett, Good Omens is brilliant and another favorite :).

Nicole Power (nicolepower) | 295 comments I finished my re-read of IT last week (I wish there were a way to rate a book 6/5 when 5 isn't good enough).

Now I'm reading A Head Full of Ghosts. I really dislike the writing so far and want to give up but it's short so I'm going to push through and see if the story wins me over.

I don't want to spoil anything, but if you don't want your own Spider by the end of that book, Gaiman didn't do his job!

The Sopranos is amazing! +5 cool points for digging that show ;) I really want to watch it again. Added The Maltese Falcon to my "to read" list as well. Good recommendation!

I am currently making my way through The Dark Tower series again. Reading The Wolves of the Calla right now. Each book has been so much more enjoyable the second time through!

The Sopranos works on so many levels and it possibly also has the greatest lead performance in tv history. The only show I loved more than it was The Shield. I am making my way through the HBO back catalog, next up on my binge list is Deadwood.

The Dark Tower though is a different story for me, could not make it past book 4. And do check out The Maltese Falcon, it is nice specially if you like noirs/hard boiled pulp fiction.

Deadwood is absolute genius, as long as you aren't sensitive to language. I wish it had gone on longer than three seasons. I love Ian McShane and can't wait to see him in American Gods. Deadwood was where I first saw him.

I don't mind language or explicit violence/sex as long as it is adds to the experience and is not there just for sake of titillation. Thanks for giving yet another positive recommendation to Deadwood. From all the reviews I have seen, it seems to be right up my alley. I will start tonight only.

Jack Palmer | 8 comments I for one am reading IT like a lot of fellow readers at the moment, my actual first read though(a quarter of the way through) , and I'm not disappointed at the least.. I also started another book that I got yesterday called 'hole in my life' by Jack Gantos (I know what a decent Christian name haha) and I read half of it in one sitting last night. . Did I mention I got the book brand new for 25pence!! This book gets you hooked from the very beginning and leads you through the rough and promising paths of his past. The pages literally turn themselves and you get lost, as if jumping into the book your very self. . . Has anyone read this book, and if so what did you think?? If you haven't read this book I highly recommend as it's suspence building, thrilling real tales from Jack Gantos' life. Easy book to read in a few hours and/or to read alongside another book you are ploughing through.. Enjoy fellow bookworms, I hope the sun shines bright upon you today! :)

Kandice | 4387 comments I'm usually reading one paper book, one ebook and listening to one audio book at all times. Right now it's As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride, The All-Girl Filling Station's Last Reunion, I Still Dream About You and Dune. There's a bonus in there because they both came it at the library at the same time.

I've set aside Truly Madly Guilty because it just isn't grabbing me. I do plan on revisiting it, though.

Greg (popzeus) Reading Robert McCammon's 'They Thirst'. Enjoying it but I think King has ruined the horror genre for me by being so damn great. The quality of writing just seems inferior and a little cliched compared to King. Maybe I'm just being a little harsh, I know a lot of people rate McCammon highly.

I've read two of Robert McCammon's books and both seemed like King imitations. I think of him as a "filler" when I am waiting for a new King. That's not such a bad thing!

I like reading about places you're familiar with! I finished Duma Key recently, and to my surprise it's set in my home state Florida instead of either in Bangor or Derry, Maine =P.

He got it right perfectly. Gators are sometimes found in swimming pools and we do rush inside to the AC, lol.

I loved this book series so much. I read it last year and I honestly think it got better and elements felt more possible with every book.

There was also short UnStrung, Unwind 1.5, which I think was only released online? It's part of Lev's story, and he was my favorite.

I found a link to read it online, if no one objects to that: http://www.8novels.net/Young_Adult/Un...
