What Are You Reading Now? Pt 2.

I loved this book!

I hope so too, but right now I'm more and more committed to Infinite Jest, So, it's going to be interesting to see how I make it through the remaining 700 pages. I really like the audio book, it's a great great reading. Meanwhile, whispersync doesn't seem to work with e-books and audible so I have to recalibrate my position every time I start reading or listening. We'll see. But thanks for the good wishes about Desperation, should have read it last year while we were driving across Nevada on our way to Yellowstone.

Wow we owe him and his men so much.

I like the audio book so much I'm sitting here in the dark at night listening to it rather than reading it, even though I have the e-book...
If I remember correctly, there were almost 100 pages of footnotes in the hardback edition.. does the narrator say "footnote" or something? And some of those footnotes are long digressions, entire stories.

The narrator is a man. A woman's voice comes in and just states the number of the footnote. Right now I'm skipping the footnotes and concentrating on the story.

OKAY.

Got it.... I'll let you know after tonights read.
Listening to David Copperfield on Librivox.

Okay... you're right (LongWait) the footnotes in Infinite Jest DO add a lot. Of course, I can't look them up while driving... but I can after and they are spread out enough so that it isn't a problem.
Straight by Dick Francis. This is my first book by him and it's always neat to discover a new author.

For Horns I have only seen the movie, is the book pretty similar or are there some differences?

The movie is nothing like the book! I'm in a movie/book club at the local library and was thrilled when we chose this. Then I watched the movie and was mortified! I loved this book, but invariably we have a few members who only get around to the movie and if they do that this month they will have the wrong idea.
Radcliff is a great actor, but the material he was given here is nothing like the book. Here's my review:

I just preordered Radiant Angel by Nelson DeMille (it will download May 26). I've never read this author but it seems like something I will enjoy.

I just started The Black Jewels Trilogy, not a good one to pick up right before finals. I don't want to do anything but read!

E., I just bought Plum Island last week for $1.99. I have a read a couple of them and they are so good.

Now I am reading Predator One.

Currently I'm entirely under the sway of INFINITE JEST. It's the only thing I'm reading. I'm over 600 pages and 200 footnotes into it. It's amazingly funny, gripping, addictive... but also full of maddeningly slow digressions that eventually turn into amazing and important scenes. Only problem is that I can't read anything else.

Thanks John. I'm hooked on Infinite Jest. though I have to admit that I'm listening to the audio book (even at night when I'm not driving around. The guy who reads it does a great job. Some of the scenes are amazing.

Doctor Sleep reminded me of Infinite Jest because there's so much about Alcoholics Anonymous in those novels. So I got the kindle edition of the AA "Big Book" - one more book for my burgeoning TBR.

I read that book not long ago, Erin. I loved it! Hope you enjoy it."
I did! I think in June, CBS is premiering a show based on the book.
