Susan (edgarsden) | 88 comments Oh, I didn't know there was some american version. I've seen that svandinavian one and it was called Let the right one in. It was a bit weird though.

I guess I have to add that book to my "to read" list ;).

Check it out.

Jeff (thelongwait) | 293 comments Getting to the last 150 pages of The Gold Bug Variations by Richard Powers and really enjoying it. Also halfway done with Omega Minor by Paul Verhaeghen and that's amazing as well. And about 1/3 of the way through The Broom of the System by David Foster Wallace and it's brilliant. All are recommended

Jeff (thelongwait) | 293 comments Oh and Holly
I can vouch for Nick's book. it's smart and sexy and creepy. I gave it 4 stars.

message 2709: by E. (new)

E. | 242 comments Nick, you should have that as your description under your book
"...smart, sexy and creepy..."

That just made me wanna pull it up on the kindle right now!

message 2710: by Nick (new)

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments Thanks long wait for the good words, and yes, E. A. I should add them.

message 2711: by Jeff (new)

Jeff (thelongwait) | 293 comments Honestly E, that's what I thought of it. Despite my love for King, I don't like horror novels, but Nick's was VERY well done.

message 2712: by Holly (new)

I hadn't read a novel in years than in 2005 I finished a writing workshop and my advisor (Famous TV sitcom writer Bill Idelson who also used to write for the Twilight Zone) didn't like a few chapters I'd written. He said go out and read stephen king and do what he does. I started with the shining and then read every book he wrote (not in any order just picking the ones that sounded good) I keep reading to keep the sound of Mr. King in my head. Then my instructor died just when I needed him most. But miraculously that's when I found On Writing and used it like a bible. And of course, soon thereafter I had finished all his novels and novellas. But he keeps writing! Thank God.

Kelli (manxkitti) | 52 comments Reading Night Calls by Katharine Elisa Kimbriel. Kind of a fantasy/SF. I've read this one several times. Rereading it then will be reading the 2 sequels.

Andrew✌️ (andrew619) | 335 comments Yesterday, I've finished Little Fuzzy, a good book, also if the sci fi element is a little in background. The attention is centered on the right of a specie and the meaning of 'living being reasonable'. Today I started Planet In The Eye Of Time.

Betsy Hetzel | 469 comments @ Stephanie, I love Jo Nesbo's books/writing ! I didn't think that I'd like a stand-alone book like THE SON without my favorite Harry Hole character in it but.... turned out that it was a great read !

Jeff (thelongwait) | 293 comments John
I'm curious as to why you didn't like Infinite Jest?

message 2720: by Jeff (new)

Jeff (thelongwait) | 293 comments John
Fair point. I adored the book as it restored my faith in what a novel can do. It was incredibly written and full of heart. To each their own though. All the best in you reading journey.

message 2721: by Jeff (new)

Jeff (thelongwait) | 293 comments So gang....I may have started something crazy....Giles Goat - Boy by John Barth. I'm on page XX of the introduction which includes (fake) notes from the editors of the publishing house and a cover letter from the author himself. Now I do read a lot of Metafiction and Postmodern fiction, but this is starting out as a wild ride. And a ton of fun! At 748 pages, let's hope so!

message 2722: by Nick (new)

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments Just posed my review of The Girl On The Train. 4 Stars.

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

Read the first ten pages of One Hundred Years of Solitude. Great writing but dense. May take me 100 years to finish it. Also starting Battle Royal We'll see how that goes.

Holly | 434 comments Nice review Nick!

message 2724: by Nick (new)

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments Wrote a review of Glen Hates Books on Amazon, which is a collection of tough-as-nails reviews by a self admitted Jackass who hates books (but not all of them). Tried to post it here too but can't seem to find the book. My review had a lot of obscenities because Glen Hates Books is full of them. Needless to say Amazon bounced it. Anyway, the laundered review is on Amazon. If I can find the book here on goodreads, I'll post the original.

message 2725: by Holly (new)

Holly | 434 comments Hope you find it.

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments Holly wrote: "Nice review Nick!"

Thanks I just did a quick word edit. Apparently, Goodreads doesn't recognize fractions so MS Word's 3/4 didn't come through. The book is better than it seems even after you've read three quarters of it.

message 2727: by Holly (new)

Holly | 434 comments That's good. You're welcome. I hope to be able to read it soon.

message 2728: by E. (new)

E. | 242 comments Just finished You Suck, the follow up to Bloodsucking Fiends (audiobooks). I'm so glad I have discovered Christopher Moore!
I gotta say, Abby Normal is a rival for my top favorite character Wireman (from Duma Key).
Currently reading The General's Daughter which is so far a good read. Also struggling through The Dark Before Dawn. I'm not sure why this book is not keeping my attention. It's written well and a good story. Possibly I'm not connecting with the characters.
About to start Heartsick for a buddy read. Everyone loves a good psychopath.

message 2729: by Nick (new)

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments So they actually did post my unexpurgated review of Glenn Hates Books (note the two "n"s). He also hates the next buddy read here, INVISIBLE MONSTERS. He says, "This book is (view spoiler) so I just downloaded the audio book. Also, I love Palahniuk. I'm also currently reading 100 years of solitude.

I have to agree with the spoiler, BUT, it is very, very cleverly written. I cannot recommend strongly enough that you do NOT cheat as you read. You'll know what I mean when you start. :D

message 2732: by Andrew✌️ (new)

Andrew✌️ (andrew619) | 335 comments Yesterday I finished Planet In The Eye Of Time , a beautiful story, funny and adventurous. Now I'm reading Gerald's Game. It's too early for make some comments, I am the beginning, but a book of King rarely disappoint.

M. (elder_prince) | 78 comments Thanks Nick and Kandice for the mention/suggestion. I think I already have this book somewhere. But I don't think it's the Invisible Monsters Remix version.

message 2735: by E. (new)

E. | 242 comments Will there be an Invisible Monsters thread, or am I just missing it?

M. (elder_prince) | 78 comments I have Invisible Monsters but it's not the Remix edition. Should I just throw it away and find the newest edition?

Cheating? You mean reading the last pages first? I would never do such a thing! :)

I haven't compared the two, and have only read the remix, but that version is NOT written in chronological order. You are instructed to "go to page XX" when you finish a certain chapter. Reading it in that order made me really experience the emotional turmoil the narrator was feeling, so I would suggest following orders, BUT, that doesn't mean I don't think the original would be good.

message 2739: by Scott (new)

Scott | 401 comments I finished Seven Deadly Wonders. Then I tried to start two different books but I just couldn't get into them. So I read the short story from King: A Face in the Crowd.

Now I'm reading The Name of the Wind.

Terri | 41 comments I'm reading Hear Me Scream nearly half way and still not sure what I think of it yet,

message 2742: by E. (new)

E. | 242 comments Kathryn, I'm sure I'll like Heartsick. I've been wanting to read it for months. I'm reading it as a buddy read with Faouzia for another group. I'm sure we will have a good discussion about it.
Starting it tonight.

I loved that book, but more for the feeling it invoked than the actual plot. I hope you like it.

One of the books that I'm reading is Bloodstream by Tess Gerritsen and it's very good. So far, it is reminding me of the movie The Crazies. Can't wait to see what is making these kids go nutso.
