Yeah I see those lines sometimes, too. They always stand out to me. In what way is it erotic? That first one I've seen most often.I don't highlight, but they do stand out to me.

Yes. That's pretty much my feeling.
I will grant that another great author could in theory pick up the threads and keep a series running forever, but it still isn't going to be the original author or the original brain.

I paused in reading The Devil Lancer to look up the Crimean War on wiki. I read the overview on it and Lord Cardigan and Lord Raglan.I love it when a historical novel makes me go look things up. I wish authors would provide a bibliography of research in the back of their books. Many do give lists like that on their websites.

That would be such a great idea. I learnt quite a bit about Scottish history after reading one of Joanna Chambers' books. It would be good if authors could include a bit about the historical context of their book. Alex Voinov does so in Test of Faith

I know! One of my favourite things about historical novels is learning new stuff. Fortunately, The Devil Lancer does have a pretty comprehensive bibliography, full of things that sound interesting. You're all set on this one, Susinok! :)

Just finished book two of the Rifter. Lovin' it so far. No, I have not gotten book three yet. I thought maybe I would finish the other three books I am currently reading. Although I might quit one of them (too much sex)(ew). I also thought I should catch up with Elliot and Tucker before the release of Fair Play. Maybe I'll go grocery shopping and work, too. Nah.
I am reading Borrowed Time: An AIDS Memoir by Paul Monette. It is a book he wrote about the early days of the AIDS pandemic and how it affected the gay community and him personally. He lost his partner but he nursed and cared for him and the story is a memoir of that. It is heart rending.Alongside that I am reading Gumption & Gumshoes which is about a chinchilla shifter turned detective. It is well written and very funny and provides a nice contrast to the Paul Monette book. I am also reading Billionaire with Benefits by Anne Tenino. It is book two in her Romancelandia series and is ok so far.

My daughter used to have a chinchilla as a pet, they have the world's softest fur. I' m not sure I will be up to reading this ;)

I haste just seen somewhere else that the author in question is Mike Ripley. Ironically, I adore his Angel books and would be only too delighted if he would write more of them. Use the time spent on the Campion books (he's already published one) and write your own wonderful books! The first Angel book is Just Another Angel, and it's great.

I finished The Devil Lancer by Astrid Amara. It was amazing. It is one of those books that is going to make it hard to choose something else to read for a while. I have severe book hangover. Loved it!

Mini rant coming on.It's like Samhain is no longer interested in my business. Now the pre-order GLBT books are mixed in with every other genre they publish. So I carefully go over their Coming Soon page to find the GLBT books and add them to my wishlist.
Well now the wishlist function isn't working! ARGH!
I wrote them a detailed gripe about it. This is the second time I've written to their customer service since they've upgraded the site. This time I flat told them I may go elsewhere.

Prosperity was awesome! I loved it to bits. It's exciting and really fun and thoughtful, too. The characters are fascinating and just plain cool. Indeed, I did swoon. There's lots of fun, lots of action, lots of krakens, and lots of wonderful and unusual people. There's interesting stuff going on in this book and I loved that. It's not your everyday queer Victorian steampunk adventure story. ;)And there's going to be more and I am excited.

I have a folder on my favorites/bookmarks titled "stuff I want" where I bookmark stuff I don't want to buy from the publisher for some reason (usually because the publisher makes it difficult). If it's a book I really really want anyway, I'll periodically check my list and then buy from ARe or a similar distributor. I don't have the patience for this mess anymore. But, yeah, that's the biggest issue I have with the "updated" Samhain site -- how generally unsearchable it is. UGH.

There's lots o..."I do love Alexis Hall -- I think his writing is superb -- but I just can't handle that much fantasy (if that's the right word). I really wish my favourite authors would spend their time and energy on real world books, either historical or contemporary. I do realise that, since they like writing it and others buy it and love it, the problem is mine not theirs, but I'm just whinging. My heart sinks wen I see one of my auto-buys like Joanna Chambers writing one, and also saying that it's the first of a series: The Dream Alchemist.
Which reminds me -- she has just put out a short but excellent free story in the Enlightenment world which is excellent: Seasons Pass. And she is planning to write a story about Iain Sinclair, one of the minor characters in Beguiled.
And continuing the theme of my previous post: Harper Fox is bringing out a Halloween story on 31st October, which she describes as a "sexy shifter romance Wolf Hall". http://www.harperfox.net/books/wolf-h...

But at least KJ Charles is going to write a "normal" m/m regency trilogy, which should be very good news.

I feel like we've been waiting for this for a long time. I've just re-read the other Charm of Magpie stories to prepare myself for it!

I really liked their old website, it was so easy finding everything, now it's all mixed up...

Exactly...
Feliz writes very well and i found the story and characters intriguing. I wanted to keep reading it yesterday but i was too tired, and at that point where if i push past it i could stay up reading for another hour or so, but then i'd get a headache. So i decided to be sensible about it, pfft... :-)
Thorns has been sitting on my TBR for a while. I bought it when it came out. High time I read it.Prosperity by Alexis Hall is going very well. He does like his dialects, doesn't he? Though it really gets you into the setting.

The blurb promised swooning (twice, even!) and it delivered. I really liked it because it's a bit different.

As a non- English reader, I have a challenge with the dialect, but language nerd that I am, it's the kind of challenge I really enjoy!

I apologize for the whining ;-), but I hate when I'm in the mood for a certain type of book and I can't find any good ones to read....Anyway, I haven't read much m/m lately, but I just started Brandon Mills versus the V-Card and I think it will hit the spot. I love it so far.

Can't wait to read Prosperity! And this morning Flight of Magpies and the new Mma Ramotswe book The Handsome Man's Deluxe Café arrived on my kindle. Now i just need to find the time to read them...
I'll download Flight of Magpies when I get home today. Sand/Ruin is shortish, so I'll be done with it at lunch time so I can give proper attention to Flight of Magpies.
