I can recommend the Maisie Dobbs series by Jacqueline WinspearMaisie Dobbs. Wonderful stories and characters.

I finished Phantom by Jo Nesbø, a Harry Hole mystery. Harry returns to Norway from his home in Hong Kong when Oleg, the son of his former girlfriend, is arrested for murder. Amid a swirl of drugs, violence, and police corruption Harry tries to clear Oleg. Pretty good book - 3 stars for me.

I'm new to them, but I enjoyed the BBC series so very much. It made me want to read the books. I've been collecting slowly. Enjoying them so far. Forester is a great story-teller.

They did a great job with that series, the Sharpe tv series was a cracker too - have you seen that? It was ITV rather than BBC....

I needed something a bit lighter so I'm listening to The Pigeon Pie Mystery and really enjoying it. Also on the lighter side I'm reading Bone Dry in anticipation of my trip to Fort Worth, Texas next week.

I just finished an ARC of Negligence by Robert Gregory Browne. It comes out on June 17th. The first book in the series is Trial Junkies. Next i'm gonna start State of Wonderby Ann Patchett.

I couldn't put 'Huntress Moon' by Alexandra Sokoloff down. It's a gripping thriller with good vs. evil shifting under you on every page. For any fiction writers out there, Ms Sokoloff's 'Screenwriting Tricks For Authors (and Screenwriters!)' presents a great approach to nailing plot and pacing also.

I finished Silent Mercy by Linda Fairstein. In this mystery a religious zealot becomes a serial killer. Pretty good plot plus lots of interesting information about the history and architecture of NYC churches. I'd give the book 3.5 stars.

Started and almost immediately set aside Blood's a Rover by James Ellroy. I usually enjoy Ellroy's work despite its bleak outlook, especially The Black Dahlia and his LA series.

Not so the case with Blood's a Rover. Felt like a collaboration between Cormac McCarthy and William Burroughs after a tough weekend in Vegas. Disjointed, jumpy and haphazard.

I commented on that one a page or so back in this thread. I liked the historical part of the story WAY better than the contemporary part and I thought the cameo appearance by Dr. Isles was unnecessary.

If you like the historical medical genre, try

Year of Wonders. Story of the plague in England in 1666, based on true. Be sure to read the Afterword. Definitely five star stuff.

Just finished Silken Prey, another great Lucas Davenport book. Now reading The Kill Room, the new Lincoln Rhyme book. It seems like it has been a long time between Rhyme books and this is one of my favorite series to read. I'm quite excited!

I finished The Boy in the Suitcase by Lene Kaaberbøl, a Scandinavian thriller set in Denmark. A young woman who works with refugees is asked to help a friend and picks up a suitcase from a station locker....which contains an abducted 3 year old boy. The fireworks start from there. 4 stars for me.

I'm reading The Last Victim by Karen Robards. The premise is a little off the beaten path: a psychiatrist who specializes in serial killers is consulting with the FBI on a current case while she's being stalked by the oddly corporeal ghost of a serial killer (whom only she can see and hear of course).

I just finished The Case of Charles Dexter Ward, my first experience with H.P. Lovecraft and enjoyed very much. I'm almost finished Hornblower and the Hotspur by C.S. Forester and enjoying. I'm just starting Devil Bones by Kathy Reichs, one of this month's Group Reads and already enjoying getting reacquainted with Temperance Brennan. I also plan to start Titanic, First Accounts by Tim Maltin.

I just finished As She Left It by Catriona McPherson and would recommend it to the group. Very complex, great protagonist. I read it all in one day.

finally finished all the Robert Crais books and now feel lost :( I also read Atkinson's Case Histories, which I thought was ok, and I am now reading The Good Nurse, The Good Nurse: A True Story of Medicine, Madness, and Murder which I am really enjoying. After this who knows....

Finished Bone Dry and quite enjoyed it. The slightly convoluted plot actually came together nicely, the characters were interesting if slightly over the top in a few places and there was humor to boot. It was a good change of pace from darker more serious books even if the body count got quite high - Midsomer Murders anyone? I'll look for more in this series.
