Roberto Ramirez (robert7110) | 24 comments Sorry I'm Roberto Ramirez I am from Mexico, studied Law at the University of Nuevo Leon with an MA in Politics at the University of Sheffield in England. The last 12 years I've been in the world of business. Own my company and kept up reading history in my free time. You are free to look through the books I have read. I wish to participate in the topics you all have going. Thank you.

Bryan Craig Great Roberto, go ahead and start posting.

We have a Latin American history topic:

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...

Also, we are about to read a book on the Spaniards and Incas.

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you are ready to cite a book. (There is a link on the top right of the reply box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

This is how a book should look:

Michael (michaelbl) | 407 comments Hello, my name is Michael. I grew up in the United States and have lived in Canada since attending college here and meeting my wife. I have broad reading interests but enjoy reading history and biography. My interest in reading history began as a child. My father was a veteran of the Pacific Theater (WWII). He was in the infantry (US). He did not talk a lot about the war and this drove me to read in order to know more. My main interests are military history. Currently I am working on a personal project to read a biography of each of the US Presidents. When I get to the appropriate period of time I am thinking of reading a biography of the Canadian Prime Minister that served at the same time. I look forward to seeing what this group is about and participating in some of the dialogue.

My name is Sherry and I live in Lansing, Michigan, USA. I am originally from Millville, NJ. I have three grown children and ten grandchildren. My interest in history is somewhat broad. As a result of reading several books on the development of the King James Bible, I became interested in learning more about medieval and Renaissance history. Of course, this only addresses the history of Europe. What was happening in the rest of the world? I then discovered the works of Susan Wise Bauer, which begin with ancient history of the world. The books on the King James Bible also spurred an interest in the British and European monarchies. Finally (I think), I am interested in the history/development of religion.

Mark Whittington | 21 comments Hello. My name is Mark and I live near Grantham in Lincolnshire, England. I have always had a considerable interest in history. I read History and Law at university before becoming an accountant. My real area of interest is British and European Medieval History and I have just spend the past couple of years studying the Hundred Year's War and the Wars of the Roses. However with the centenary of the outbreak of World War One imminent I have recently begun to reacquaint myself with this subject, something that I last studied in depth as an undergraduate. I am currently reading The Sleepwalkers: How Europe Went to War in 1914 by Christopher Clark as well as watching and listening to all the World War One TV and radio programmes currently being produced by the BBC.

Icydove | 2 comments One problem is the citation option does not appear on the goodreads app for iPhone. Neither do the images show up in the post, so the proper citation only appears as the author's name and no book title.

ETA: Sometimes the images work, and sometimes they do not. After I made this post, they magically showed up. Other times, they just appear as the author's name. I don't know if it is an app bug, database issues or internet issues. Regardless, a majority of the time, the images are not visible. I had to edit this on my computer because the edit button doesn't show up in the app, either.

I'm Steve, and reading history ranks among my top hobbies. I tend to read bird's-eye-view histories of the world, starting with a history of the ancient world when I was in high school and J.M. Robert's History of the World when I was a cadet at West Point (it took a couple of years, because like a dork I decided to take notes). I also have a soft spot for Roman history, particularly anything to do with the Gracchi brothers (of which I haven't found too much, unfortunately). I'm happy to be part of the group. Thanks!

Hi Bryan. I tried using the add book/author thingy but all I got was the link that you saw posted. So I am not quite sure what I did wrong. Hi Michael,
I graduated in '95 from West Point with a degree in civil engineering. After spending a few years in the Army, I switched over to being a structural engineer in NYC for a few years, and now work in patent law. I now spend a lot of time trying to encourage civil engineers to patent, which can often be an uphill battle!

It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them.

When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

This is how books you mention should look:

The Control of Nature by John McPhee by John McPhee John McPhee

Hi Sebastian, welcome it is great to see someone your age that is into history. Historical fiction can be a lot of fun. My high school had a historical lit class and we basically read historical fiction. My favorite was based on the idea that Custer survived the Little Bighorn. The setting for the book was his court-martial. You can suggest any good history book you have read from what I have seen here no seniority needed. I have made suggestions and I am new. Welcome aboard again. Michael

Hey, thanks for the answer. My son is a mechanical engineer looking for his first real world position. Dad was a civil engineer for the forest service. Thank you for serving and welcome aboard the group.
