Hello all. I'm Peter Eisner, a foreign correspondent and writer. I've spent a lot of time in Latin America and Europe. I tend to lean toward reading about untold sidelights to history and interesting characters who may not have gotten their due.

I'm very interested in WW2, Europe and Japan, in part because my dad was one of the generation--a Naval officer in the Pacific--- and typically didn't speak much about it. I like to fill in the details. So of course, a book like Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand takes me there.

But I've also just read Destiny of the Republic by Candice Millard, surrounding the assassination of James Garfield. Fascinating, from new details about Alexander Graham bell to a history of the practice of medicine in the United States.

Hi, my name is Ngaio. I live in Canada and am currently attending university. This sometimes cuts into my reading time unfortunately, but such is life.

I love all history really, but my particular areas of interest include medical history (plagues etc.), WWI/WWII, the Tudor period, and the Industrial Revolution.

Edit: Oh, and religious history. Knew I was forgetting one :)

I live in Michigan.
I am 48 and I love History.

I have been reading books about it since I was 10. I am a Combat Vet from the Iraqi war. I served 23 years. I am retired from the MI Guard and I am a Firefighter/EMT.

My early interest was in the Aviators of WW2. The last few years I have branched out into all areas of Military History and other things as well. My favorite author is W.E.B. Griffin and Tom Clancy. I have all Griffin's books. New one coming out soon and am ready to read it. I hope to get into a lot of talk about History here.
Book below was very interesting to me because it showed how we sometimes only look at History from one side.

I used to hate history class as a teen probably because we weren't taught in a way that allowed me to see how it's shaped the present. However I was recently both inspired by the film Lincoln and through my shame at how ignorant I am of basic history. I am particularly interested in British history from the Saxons onward and American political history.
