Clockwork Princess Buddy Read

Jen, Jenny, David and I are all chomping at the bit to read the 3rd book in The Infernal Devices series! It's finally time! We're starting on Tuesday, May 7th! Woot woot!

This buddy read is open to everyone who would like to join us!! There are no set chapters per day, we just read at our own paces and start each post with how far along you are, i.e., Chapter #, %, or page #, using spoilers where needed. Have fun!

I am so sorry. I had to start it - I was finished with Fragments and didn't want to start something else.

40% done and I can say this: you will not need tissues. You will need boxes and boxes of tissues. I have not read a book so beautiful in a very long time.

I started too lol! Only 7% so far but oh my gosh, I love it!! The flashback beginning brought tears to my eyes!!

50% done. Sorry, sorry, so sorry I couldn't wait! If it's any consolation, I had to stop listening because my daughter and four of her friends are eating pizza and watching Iron Man in the living room. And my kitchen cabinet doors are drying (new paint). I must really love that kid --

I am going to "try" to start tonight too then. :-P I "almost" started last night and read the first page, but forced myself to "step away from the book!". Hahahah... I started another book instead. You guys are cracking me UP!

I'm only about 9% in and I'm really liking this one. This could end up being my favorite of the series!

About 80%. I was up til 4am but finally had to fall asleep. (view spoiler)[I knew it! I had my suspicions when Charlotte said "Did I do the right thing?" after passing by Jem's empty room. I was so relieved to find that Jem hadn't died! Now he isn't in pain, and how like him to choose a path that is all about giving to and serving others. I'm anxious to see how this gets resolved. And btw - I was thinking there was no way to stop the automatons unless they simply blew up the mountain. No idea how they were going to do that - but that whole clockwork pendant thing, MAN this woman can write a plot! (hide spoiler)]

I'm about 18% in. I'm going to make a predicition. (view spoiler)[ Since there is no mroe yin fen, I think Jem will be sent to the Silent Brothers for help. I think he will end up becoming a Silent Brother so that he can live with Tessa eternally. (hide spoiler)]

Good theory but the fact that umm I think it's Tessa that suggests it makes it less likely I think. I think (view spoiler)[ he's gonna die :( (hide spoiler)]

Ooh I like that theory too, the power of a woman! But could he really give up a life with her, even a short one, for that? Although I suppose he could wait until the lastinute, although it'd be risky :) oh wait, I just remembered though, didn't they say (view spoiler)[ he'd have to get off the drugs before he could have the Silent Brother runes? And if he got off the drugs he'd die before they could do it? I might be remembering wrong, I've got a million things going through my head right now lol! I'm so nervous to find out what going to happen!!!!! (hide spoiler)] I'm at 20% by the way :)

However, I think maybe he will come extremely close to death and be taken to the Silent City for a final attempt to save his life (which may be becoming a Silent Brother). By that time, he may have the drugs passed through his system since there are no more drugs left that he's been taking. Or maybe he will be so out of consciousness at that point that they don't ask him his wishes and try to make him a Silent Brother anyways just to save his life. Especially if they know Tessa is immortal, and they know he loves Tessa, and that way they can be together eternally if it works.

I told you you'd need lots and lots of tissues. Tons. I NEVER cry, ever. And I was trying to get cabinet doors hung in the kitchen yesterday, and I had to stop because I was just sobbing - just overcome by the way these characters feel and speak to one another. (view spoiler)[Some of my favourites: when Jem and Tessa hold hands by linking their pinkies (what sweetness), when they decide to marry sooner than they had expected, when Tessa and Will embrace outside Magnus' house, when Will says goodbye to Jem, the conversation on the bridge, Will and Tessa in the mountain in Wales, Gideon proposing to Sophie.
My favourite line in the book: "One does not question miracles or complain that they are not constructed perfectly to one's liking." (hide spoiler)]

So far I have only had time to read the Prologue, and I was also surprised to read the name Adele! Was this book made for us or what?

Wow, I can't wait to finish this now, that's high praise Jen! Although I'm not surprised, I've only heard good, teary reviews so far!

Ggrrrr... Ha, Meaghan! I had to much to get done today and couldn't take the time today to read. :(

I was worried about reading this book during the week. It's almost 10 pm and I'm a third through. I have a feeling I'll either stay up until the wee hours, or blow off the morning and finish. Or maybe even both! Depending on how much I get through. Thank goodness I own the company so I can't get fired if I play hookey to read. ;-)

Oh wow, Meaghan, I'm also at 44% exactly. It seems like a perfect stopping point. I'm getting too tired and don't want to miss anything. Too funny that we live in the same town (well, Valley). :-)

(view spoiler)[I agree about Will telling Jem everything. I'm also glad that Will had a heart to heart with his sister. He truly is becoming such a "good" guy. Magnus! Love him, but that's more because of the TMI books.

And, Jen, you're so right. The writing in this book is breathtaking. I can only imagine how much better it must be in audio. I think I will have to listen on audio one day. (hide spoiler)]

I'm at 42% and I knew (view spoiler)[ when Magnus was talking to Will that Jem was listening. I just knew it! I think it's a good thing too though, hated that Jem didn't know. I'm thinking Jem will die and give his blessing to Tessa and Will. Makes me sad just thinking it but that's the kind of guy he is (hide spoiler)]

I made it to 18% I am actually thinking the same thing, Meaghan, but I think Tessa will be the one that saves him. She's supposed to be a warlock, remember?\
Fab start, I do love Cecily already. My heart is already breaking for Jem, and Tessa, and Will!

I think Magnus is probably my favourite character overall. He brings such a fresh perspective to all these Brits. So honest. And oddly, I have never been team Will or team Jem. This didn't feel like the traditional love triangle to me because of the relationship between Will and Jem. I think that relationship actually is what makes this book so good. Such a true, clear, pure love between brothers who are soulmates. There is something Tessa says at the end that expresses that: (view spoiler)[She is talking to Jem on the bridge, and she tells him that she could never have loved Will like she did if she had not loved him, and vice versa. Loving the one made possible the loving of the other. Some reviewer said that this is the best possible kind of triangle, one where each person loves the other two equally. And then you throw in all that turn of the century British language, and we are all on the floor -- (hide spoiler)]

ALSO - I'd just like to throw out the fact that I LOVED the ending. We can all discuss it when you finish - but for all the emotional anguish that is in this book, it is wonderfully resolved, all the loose ends tied, and I cried because it made me happy.

So don't be scared. : )

Happy tears!! That makes me feel so much better! I usually don't like love triangles, but you're absolutely right, Jen, this one is so filled with purity and love between ALL three that I love it and my heart just melts through each and every conversation. And the writing...! Just beautiful!
