It really is a good one and I like how it is not quite pnr.

Enjoyed the books but Kate is still my fav ;)

It isn't that the others are more fantasy...I just don't think the plots hold together as well. For the second book, it was kind of back and forth between really making sense and good writing and off in the weeds. I especially didn't care for the "misunderstanding" at the end, which was just plain silly.

I liked the first every bit as much as the Kate Daniels and possibly more. Not that there is anything wrong with the Kate Daniels series. It's right up there with Patricia Briggs, Frank Tuttle and Benedict Jacka as favorites.

Totally agree Kate is my favorite hands down but I think to your point about fantasy I agree. I think this is the attraction for me because I love fantasy with alternate lands :-)

I love finding great books in the thrift store...I feel like a lotto winner LOL

Not putting down fantasy, cause I've read a lot of it over my time, just not what I was looking for when I read it. My fault not Ilona or Gordon's fault. LOL.

Oh, I don't think it's really UF. In that sense there is more Fantasy, but I thought the first one had a lot more romance than the first probably 3 Kate Daniels. I felt with the Kate books the focus was more on the mystery with the romance thread kind of weaving in across the series.
They're both fun series though. I get a lot of entertainment value out of them!

Me too.....lol It's a win/win. A great book for cheap.

I have to be honest and say it did not feel like PNR but UF ...anyone else feel that way?

I thought the series was more PNR than UF! But they are good mix, really.

I love the edginess to it but then I also love that it has a distinctly romantic feel to it as well.

Couldn't have said it better myself!

Oh--I was thinking of the first and second, just in general. I haven't read Fate's Edge. So you very well could be correct. I mixed Fate's Edge up with the title of book one. Sorry about that.

Oh no problem I like it when people read the same book and you get different points of view :-)
Let me know what you think after you read I am curious.

While I am sad this is the last book I have to be honest and say I did not really buy into the love relationship Richard and Charlotte..I mean I excepted it but there was no spark. Also why did Richard change his face like is he stuck that way forever?? And really the kid killed the Spider?? Who no one recognized?? Just a bit of weirdness when I sat back and thought about it.

I never continued the series. I LOVED book one. Was very lukewarm about book two but thought it was still quite good. Book 3...just could not even get interested in the blurb. I don't mind when there are new characters with each book, but I just felt the plots were reaching. And there wasn't always that "spark."

I totally understand as you can see I was not in a huge hurry to finish it lol. I agree the plots did reach and I cannot recall how well they connected in other books but in this was there were a few holes. I think for me Ilona's writing style is compelling so I am able to look past a lot.

I agree. The writing is compelling, but yes! I think it was the shaky plot with a bit of leakage and the reaching that did me in after book 2. And that is not really a complaint, just something that made me decide not to continue the series. I loved most of the Kate Daniel series although by book 5 there seemed to be a bit of a reaching going on to make things MORE terrible and MORE ... well, it wasn't tying together as well for me. I enjoyed Clean Sweep and I haven't started book 2 in that series. I do love the stories and the writing. They have great imagination and some really wonderful characters.
