Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments This is the discussion thread for the Edge Series
On the Edge (The Edge, #1) by Ilona Andrews Bayou Moon (The Edge, #2) by Ilona Andrews Fate's Edge (The Edge, #3) by Ilona Andrews Steel's Edge (The Edge, #4) by Ilona Andrews

Have you read any books in this series? What do you think of them? Or will you read one this month?

message 2: by Maria (new)

Maria Schneider (bearmountainbooks) | 50 comments I really enjoyed the first in this series and it will remain one of my favorite books of all time. I have read the second and it was a good read. Haven't finished out the series yet!

message 3: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments Goal number two finish this series this month lol
It really is a good one and I like how it is not quite pnr.

Lisarenee | 2046 comments I read the first book and own the next two. Now I need to find time to read them.

message 5: by Sandra, Need more time to Read!! (new)

Sandra | 4734 comments I've read the first 2, got the 3rd but not rushing to read it. Definitely more fantasy than PNR.

Enjoyed the books but Kate is still my fav ;)

It isn't that the others are more fantasy...I just don't think the plots hold together as well. For the second book, it was kind of back and forth between really making sense and good writing and off in the weeds. I especially didn't care for the "misunderstanding" at the end, which was just plain silly.

message 7: by Alisa (new)

Alisa I've read the first two and then got side tracked and didn't go back once the third book was released. I recently found the last one in a thrift store. Need to find book three now. Unfortunately it's been so long since I read the first ones I'm going to have to do a re-read. I only remember bits and pieces. I remember that I like them but not as much as Kate.

I liked the first every bit as much as the Kate Daniels and possibly more. Not that there is anything wrong with the Kate Daniels series. It's right up there with Patricia Briggs, Frank Tuttle and Benedict Jacka as favorites.

message 9: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) I have read all of them - just finished the fourth one at the beginning of the month. Loved this series. The last one was not my favorite but still really good. I think the world building that Ilona Andrews does is phenomenal.

Totally agree Kate is my favorite hands down but I think to your point about fantasy I agree. I think this is the attraction for me because I love fantasy with alternate lands :-)

I love finding great books in the thrift store...I feel like a lotto winner LOL

D B | 6 comments Def going to read one of these books. Or shoot for the stars and read all of them.

message 13: by Sandra, Need more time to Read!! (new)

Sandra | 4734 comments I think its more fantasy cause the romance is secondary and its not UF as we know it - kickass in the mean streets of a city.

Not putting down fantasy, cause I've read a lot of it over my time, just not what I was looking for when I read it. My fault not Ilona or Gordon's fault. LOL.

Oh, I don't think it's really UF. In that sense there is more Fantasy, but I thought the first one had a lot more romance than the first probably 3 Kate Daniels. I felt with the Kate books the focus was more on the mystery with the romance thread kind of weaving in across the series.

They're both fun series though. I get a lot of entertainment value out of them!

Me too.....lol It's a win/win. A great book for cheap.

message 16: by Jaime (new)

Jaime Rush (jaime_rush) | 126 comments I recently finished the fourth one, and yeah, it's a bummer that they're not writing more of them. I wonder why. But that might be so they can focus on more Kate/Curran books! Still, I've really enjoyed the Edge books. I love the world and the damaged characters. Jack and George, so sweet and deadly at once. I want to see them grown up and starring in their own books.

message 17: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments I finished Fate's Edge and it was good. The beginning threw me a bit, this really is not a stand a lone book.

I have to be honest and say it did not feel like PNR but UF ...anyone else feel that way?

I thought the series was more PNR than UF! But they are good mix, really.

message 19: by Nephilim (new)

Nephilim | 19 comments These are really good books. I have read all of them but steels edge. I like how they use the same characters again and again and how they will show up any random times.

message 20: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) I think this series is more PNR with fantasy elements than UF. Each one has a distinct romance in it and focuses on a specific character. UF tends to have the same character throughout a series and a romance might develop over several books.
I love the edginess to it but then I also love that it has a distinctly romantic feel to it as well.

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments I am ok with being the odd man out. Initially with the series I agree it was more PNR with fantasy but I dunno this one (Fate's Edge) felt more like UF.

Oh--I was thinking of the first and second, just in general. I haven't read Fate's Edge. So you very well could be correct. I mixed Fate's Edge up with the title of book one. Sorry about that.

Oh no problem I like it when people read the same book and you get different points of view :-)

Let me know what you think after you read I am curious.

Nichole ~Bookaholic~ (nicholebookaholic) | 672 comments I just finished Steel's Edge....wow...makes me sad the series is over

message 26: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) I agree!

message 27: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments I finally finished Steels Edge and you know it left me with questions.

While I am sad this is the last book I have to be honest and say I did not really buy into the love relationship Richard and Charlotte..I mean I excepted it but there was no spark. Also why did Richard change his face like is he stuck that way forever?? And really the kid killed the Spider?? Who no one recognized?? Just a bit of weirdness when I sat back and thought about it.

I never continued the series. I LOVED book one. Was very lukewarm about book two but thought it was still quite good. Book 3...just could not even get interested in the blurb. I don't mind when there are new characters with each book, but I just felt the plots were reaching. And there wasn't always that "spark."

I totally understand as you can see I was not in a huge hurry to finish it lol. I agree the plots did reach and I cannot recall how well they connected in other books but in this was there were a few holes. I think for me Ilona's writing style is compelling so I am able to look past a lot.

I agree. The writing is compelling, but yes! I think it was the shaky plot with a bit of leakage and the reaching that did me in after book 2. And that is not really a complaint, just something that made me decide not to continue the series. I loved most of the Kate Daniel series although by book 5 there seemed to be a bit of a reaching going on to make things MORE terrible and MORE ... well, it wasn't tying together as well for me. I enjoyed Clean Sweep and I haven't started book 2 in that series. I do love the stories and the writing. They have great imagination and some really wonderful characters.
