Reminds me of Steven Wright's joke:
"I bought a dog the other day...I named him Stay. It's fun to call him... "Come here, Stay! Come here, Stay!" He went insane. Now he just ignores me and keeps typing." :)

@Kris: Nice one! :) Maybe the book somehow inspired the joke, or vice versa?
@Tab: It definetely was a chapter book.
Tab wrote: "What country were you in when you read this book? Language?"I must have totally missed your post, Tab... I was in Germany as a kid, and read it in German.
Ayshe wrote: "What would their names be in German?"I think they were "Komm" and "Geh" ("Come" and "Go"), although I am not sure about the latter, it might have been "Bleib" ("Stay") or "Weg" ("Away").
bookel wrote: "Was it translated to or from English?"I have no idea, it has been too long since I have read it.
Mymymble wrote: "The Children of Green Knowe has a couple of china King Charles spaniels called Come and Go. Later he gets a real spaniel but I can't remember its name. There are other dogs in the ser..."Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't think that's it. In the book I'm looking for, the dog(s) belong to the villain, and he has named them Come and Go because he is evil and likes to see the one dog (head) suffer.

The evil guy in this book (perhaps a wizard?) had either two dogs or a two-headed dog, and their names were "Come" (or "Stay"?) and "Go". The dog (or dog-head) named Go was very sad, because when he thought his owner was calling him, he was always sent away.
Unfortunately I do not remember anything else. Does anybody recognize this scene and the book it came from?
