Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Yeah I wanted to focus on getting cookie, chocolate and cake done these last couple of weeks since some of us had already claimed it and you don't want to go out with the harder to find items. I don't think your last book had anything from the food category claimed. If you had one in your book I'm sure Dawn will let you edit your post. At this point if even if it only had fruit I'd see about claiming it since there's no way you can get two food items in this last week. It would be super great if the last item called is from the furniture or architecture category!

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) Sorry but Branded didn't have much food... they were like starving half the time

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) I don't think they even had fruit

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Lol starving all the time!

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) Well it's dystopian and the main character is basically in like a prison... where people die every day... I seem to remember her eating a bagel once and a roll... but that's all I can think of.

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) Alana ~ The Book Pimp wrote: "And I thought we were trying to focus on cookie, not fruit, since there where so many that still needed fruit to earn a point."

There will only be one more item called Friday. So if you want to get them both you'll need one of them this week. You can change your book up until the item gets called if you don't have fruit or cookie in Branded.

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) I'll keep that in mind, but this week is NOT a good week for reading and such, that's why I tried to post early. My kids are starting school next week, and I have back-to-school nights and school supplies, and school uniforms, and hemming trousers...

I don't think I'm going to be able to get everything this time... it's just the way it happened.

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Do your kids go to private school? I know most of the state starts around the same time. Mine have another 5 weeks of summer.

Public Charter school- year round. They have only about 7 (ish) weeks of summer. They start next Monday, then have a 'fall break' at the end of September/beginning of Oct.

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) I didn't know Texas had year round school. I still have to Take mine to the beach before school starts back up. I'm starting to run out of time. We always go to Galveston every summer but I'm too scared to go there this year. I know of two people who got that flesh eating disease being in the water.

There is a 'charter school district' here in Austin- Wayside Schools, and all of those are year round school. But Austin ISD is technically a 'different' school district, so we don't have to follow the calendar like they do. Both good and bad things about year round school...

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Horse & Mirror Week:
Read: Magic to the Bone (Allie Beckstrom, #1) by Devon Monk by Devon Monk
Finished: 7/17/13
Rating: ★★★☆☆
Review:
3.5
What a unique world Allie Beckstrom lives in. Magic is available to the public but every time you use it you pay either physically or with lost memory. Allie's father monopolized the magic market and made millions off of it. She's decided to go her own way and not step into the corporate lifestyle. Allie is one of those characters that can't catch a break. She's dodging the cops and people who want to kill her. Then there's Zay her love interest, I never could figure him out. He managed to always be there when Allie needed him but yet he was very elusive and secretive. I enjoyed this book and will read more. It's one of those UF books where the first book is world building and establishing the characters, kind of how Kate Daniels books are. It was refreshing to have a book that doesn't include your typical supernatural creatures. The magic concept was very unique and entertaining.

This book was confusing when I starting read it at first, but as I read on, it got better. Overall, it was a very enjoyable read especially the mythology part!

Desk: The proprietor sat behind the desk. (Page 71)

Fruit: The food-fruit, cheese, wine-still sat on the table in the corner. (Page 80)

Horse: "The horse is hollow and filled with Greeks!" (Page 27)

Kitchen: Mab was napping in the kitchen. (Page 66)

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) Jenne wrote: "Cat and white :("

well that just screwed me over for getting wolf, didn't it. I'm sorry I couldn't find cookie last week...

message 320: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Well lets knock out fruit and our bonus for 2 points.

Amy ~Lover of Books~ | 675 comments Jenne wrote: "Cat and white :("

So, that means I don't have to find wolf?

message 322: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Nope but you can close out chocolate.

Amy ~Lover of Books~ | 675 comments Jenne wrote: "Nope but you can close out chocolate."

I'll see if I can today with the current books I have.

Wow what a conclusion to an amazing trilogy! This was definitely my favorite book of the three. So many things happened I was not expecting whatsoever. There is even a few times I almost cried! Any fan of the walking dead definitely needs to read these books! This trilogy is the first zombie books that I've ever read and boy am I glad I did!

French Lessons by Ellen Sussman

Read: French Lessons by Ellen Sussman
Rating: *****
Finished: 7/21/2013
Review: I picked this book up from the store because of the cover and it was actually pretty good. It's three stories about three different French tutors about one day they spend with their students. However, the students end up teaching each of the tutors something about love and loss. I drank wine and ate cheese while I read this, it was nice :)

Items:
Fruit:
"Again he hears the shouts of vendors hawking their fruits and vegetables, and in the mix, the sweet voice of someone singing." Page 161

Cat: "The man strokes the girl's body, petting her as if she is, in fact, his cat."

White/Silver: "He had imagined a different terrain - white skin untouched by the sun, a long, thin body." Page 12

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) Okay- I've found cat, white and fruit and cookie (haven't finished book yet though) which one do y'all want me to claim when I'm done- cookie or fruit?

message 328: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Alana either one is fine. We'll get a point for either of them so it's all good :)

Amy ~Lover of Books~ | 675 comments Die Buying (A Mall Cop Mystery, #1) by Laura DiSilverio

Finished: July 25th
Rating: 4 stars

Review:
For some reason, when I was reading this book, I kept thinking of that mall cop movie with Kevin James. I really despised a couple characters in this book, but I guess that's to be expected with any book you read. Overall, I really liked this book and am intrigued to read the next book in this series and see what case gets solved next!

Items:

Chocolate: I turned back to Kiefer just as he bit into a huge chocolate chip cookie. (Page 61)

Cat: "That is the ugliest cat I have ever seen." (Page 162)

White: He always wore starched white shirts with French cuffs and had a set of cufflinks for every day of the week. (Page 8)

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) Crap in a hand basket- I nearly had everything ready, but I've had massive internet issues at my home and loathe AT&T with the fire of a thousand suns.

Sorry I let y'all down, but I'll post in a wee bit.

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) My Internet has been running slow off and on all week, drives me nuts!
