Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Ok I'm going to go ahead and get my review up. I'm worried I won't have time this evening.

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Coffee & Ghost Week:
Read: A Rush of Wings (The Maker's Song, #1) by Adrian Phoenix by Adrian Phoenix
Finished: 5/6/13
Rating: ★★★★☆

Review:

The last half sucked me in! Quite a unique world and I loved how New Orleans felt almost like a person instead of a town in this one. This was a nice break from cookie cutter UF. It was quite dark though. Heather was a pretty cool character. E was super sick, the sad thing is he's not to far fetched which makes it even more sadistic. I suspect this is one where book 2 makes the series take off. I'll definitely be reading it in the near future!

Items:
Crossing to the dresser he opened one drawer KL2140
took a long sip of her rapidly cooling coffee. KL609
A wasp wriggled into his nostril KL2158
two figures strode from the entryway onto the dance floor KL2295
Let me hold him she screams. The ghosts never pause KL4775

Second Sight (Arcane Society, #1) by Amanda Quick

Read:
Second Sight by Amanda Quick
Finished: 5/9/2013
Rating: ****
Review: This was a pretty good book! It was more of a mystery than an paranormal romance but it was nice to read something different. I liked how aura's were portrayed and it added to the story very nicely. Will definately continue the series.

Items:
Home Furnishings:
Bookcase: "But to her amazement, Gabriel went to a classical statue of a Greek god that stood near a bookcase and moved one of the stone arms." Page 40
Food: Coffee: "She greatly preferred tea but when she felt anxious or uneasy, she drank coffee on the theory that it would fortify her nerves." Page 50
Animal: Wolf: "He saw himself as a wolf in sheep's clothing." Page 353
Architectural: Bathroom: "Perhaps one of the bathrooms had been allowed to grow dank and moldy." Page 339
Bonus: Ghosts: "She looked as if she had seen a pair of ghosts." Page 322

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) The Athena Effect (The Athena Effect, #1) by Derrolyn Anderson

Read: The Athena Effect by Derrolyn Anderson
Finished: 5/5/13
Rating: 4½♥'s

Review:
(Re-read) I still enjoyed this thoroughly in my re-read, although I did find myself more sympathetic to the twins this go-round compared to my first reading. I really like the way the romance builds in a realistic way, and I felt the auras was done well. I could 'accept' the story very easily, and I liked that the characters were combinations of unlikely things. How smart Cali is compared to her lousy 'street smarts' (she is 'survival' smart, not 'urban' smart), for example. I will definitely read it again in the future when book 3 comes out most likely!

Items:
Coffee Page 102/Location 1564 "She walked in the door to find Phil up earlier than usual, sitting at the table with a cup of coffee and the newspaper."

Foyer Page 161/Location 2462 "Caledonia stood in the foyer for a moment, collecting her thoughts.

Tub Page 255/Location 3897 "There was a golden clawfoot tub set on a raised platform on one side of the room, its waterspout shaped like a swan.

Bear Page 132/Location 2010 "She thoughts about Calvin, and held it up, studying the little bear."

Bonus: Ghost Page 39/Location 587 "It occurred to him that she might be a ghost."

Review:
So sad that this is the final book in the Body Finder series because I've loved all these books since the beginning! Love the ending!

Items:

She kept her headphones on as she grabbed her purse from the dresser and dropped back onto her bed. (Page 7)

In the kitchen, the lights seemed too bright and Violet could smell the fresh coffee brewing in the pot. (Page 111-112)

"The girl who was buried near my house when I was little already had bugs on her when I found her." (Page 235)

Kisha found them like that, as she watched Evan from where she stood in line for the bathroom. (Page 338)

As a medium, Krystal claimed that she'd known where to find Violet after being contacted by the ghost of her abductor. (Page 264)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) I'm thinking of reading Hammered (The Iron Druid Chronicles, #3) by Kevin Hearne
It has both window and smoke in it. Also has bear which is a tougher one. Let's all post what possible items once we have our books picked. If you don't want to search them I can for all of us :)

Finished: May 14th
Rating: 4 stars

Review:
Well, this trilogy is over and it's kinda hard to write a review without giving away any spoilers. I did enjoy the whole trilogy. I liked the ending because Clea and Sage can finally live in peace without any more obstacles in their way.

Items:

Bath tub: This sounds like a serious issue for me until I see a deep tub, complete with bubble bath, water pillow, and TV mounted for the best possible lounge-and-watch angle. (Page 173)

Tea: With a rueful smile, I sit across from him and pour myself a cup of tea. (Page 74)

Horse: I bet if I'd wanted horses, she'd have let me. (Page 112)

Window: Worse, I can see her moving toward the window. (Page 44)

Smoke: His face has turned from pale to crimson, and I wouldn't be surprised to see smoke and ash pour out of his ears. (Page 178)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Hey Suzanne, I'm searching for items in your book that one of us has already claimed. It does have dresser and bathtub both in it.
Do you know what food item you're thinking of claiming?
You do have bugs and horse.

Alana have you thought about what your'e claiming?

I'm for sure going to claim bear for my animal. I'm debating on vegetable or tea for my food item. I think I'll claim bookshelf for furniture since my book didn't have a bathtub in it.

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) Jenne wrote: "Hey Suzanne, I'm searching for items in your book that one of us has already claimed. It does have dresser and bathtub both in it.

I have two books that might work (I've read this week- well one, I'm about to finish) but I don't think 'smoke' used to refer to a cigarette counts, does it? Or is it equal opportunity as long as you find the word? I'm also trying to make sure I can fill other needs (categories) as well...

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) "I'd been plowing through the smokes at a record pace since meeting Brynne."

this is the quote... would it work?

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) It doesn't mention smoke but obviously if he's smoking 'smokes' then there is smoke coming off it... it's kind of grey area

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Id ask Dawn to be safe.

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) Jenne wrote: "Id ask Dawn to be safe."

I put a request on the Items thread (question)

If it's OK, I'll be able to claim: window, smoke, fish, sofa, and meat.

message 73: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) I'll claim meat then for my food item if she approves yours. Tea seems to be one I see often. I was hoping to knock pasta or pizza out this week but they weren't in my book.

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) If she doesn't approve it, I'll check my other book I'm almost done with. it has pizza, and window, and I'd most likely use rug and fish (and smoke, obviously)

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) Well, worst case scenario, I found smoke (noun) in my current book and I am at 90%, so I should be finishing this tonight.

So depending on what Dawn says... it will be either Naked (The Blackstone Affair, #1) by Raine Miller or All In (The Blackstone Affair, #2) by Raine Miller

message 76: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Woohoo I found a book (depending on what's called tomorrow) that has both bathtub and a pool in it!

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) Well, hopefully she will answer today, so i can still claim the bonus. Still no response on the "Item" thread regarding my smoke question

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) If I don't hear anything by tonight, I'll go with my 'sure thing' 2nd choice

Read Hammered (The Iron Druid Chronicles, #3) by Kevin Hearne by Kevin Hearne
Finished: 5/12/13
Rating:★★★★★
Review:
This is becoming one of my favorite series, each book tops the last. This is one of the most unique and creative worlds that I have ever read. Hats off to Mr. Hearne for creating such a wonderful place to escape to for a while! You'll want to laugh, cry, and cheer for the good guy while reading these books. The Oberon quotes are priceless and I have to include my favorite from this one in this review. Atticus has decided it's time to fulfill his oath and take Hal and Leif to Asgard to kill Thor. Atticus knows this is a bad idea (Jesus even visits him and tells him so) and he figures it's time to leave Arizona because if they survive the trip to Asgard the s*!t is going to hit the fan. Atticus runs this idea by Oberon before leaving and Oberon tells Atticus that's fine as long as where they're going there's sausage and bitches! (view spoiler) If you're looking for a nice break from the typical paranormal book then pick these up. They will seriously have you laughing out loud at parts.

Items:

I tossed her the keys to the rare bookcase. KL# 1379
She was the last person with whom I'd shared Immortali-Tea. Kl# 498
holding a spear in one hand while a polar bear lounged at his feet, KL# 3449

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) From what we've all claimed so far there's a few items we're halfway to having:

Bookcase: Alana & Amy
Dresser: Suzanne & Alana
Bathtub: Jenne & Suzanne
Tea: Suzanne & Alana
Bear: Suzanne & Amy
Bug: Suzanne & Alana
Foyer: Suzanne & Amy
Bathroom: Jenne & Alana

BTW I'm not listing these to pressure or rush :) It's easier for me to keep a mental visual on it doing it this way lol.

Covet by J.R. Ward
Finished: 5/15/2013
Rating: *****
Review: This is the first of a new series from J. R. Ward, and I think I like it better than the Black Dagger Brotherhood! The dialogue was less "showy" if you know what I mean. The main character wasn't working so hard to be a bad-ass and it was a lot more enjoyable to read!

Items:
Home Furnishings:
Stool: "Robbie slid off the stool and padded over to the fridge in his slippers." Page 62
Food: Pasta: "How about a head transplant first, then the frickin' pasta." Page 103
Animals: Snake: "She likes snakes-but then maybe it's a recycle, reuse thing for her shoes and handbags." Page 359
Architectural: Window: "Marie-Terese Boudreau lifted her eyes to the confessional booth's lattice window." Page 8
Bonus: Smoke: "The smoke was emanating from the left side of the man's chest...boiling up into the air from a specific spot." Page 72

Sorry I didn't get back to you, I've just been searching for the hard ones first before I try to tag the easy ones. I agree TEA is a pretty easy word to find. I think Bear, Foyer and Dresser are going to be more difficult.

message 86: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) I'm glad you found pasta! It pizza and cookie will probably be the harder food ones. I've found dresser quite a bit since we started. Bathtub has been allusive for me but depending on what's called tomorrow I found it with pool in a book I'm wanting to read.

Amy ~Lover of Books~ | 675 comments Jenne wrote: "I'll claim meat then for my food item if she approves yours. Tea seems to be one I see often. I was hoping to knock pasta or pizza out this week but they weren't in my book."

I had trouble finding tea in the last TCF challenge you hosted so I decided to claim it this week.

Finished: 5/14/13
Rating: 4½♥'s

Review:
I was worried, honestly... how many books are there going to be about rich, sexually dominant men and the virginal, submissive females they fall for... even this lover of 50 Shades thinks the waters are getting too overabundant with these type books. But, despite that, I personally really enjoyed it. It's sexy, it's set in the UK, and I didn't find the female character to be a total nitwit (this is important to note, because there are many of that type of character out there.)

I've been thoroughly enjoying this story, I like how 'real' the characters are. They aren't perfect, they have issues, they make bad choices... even though obviously Ethan has money, they don't beat you over the head constantly that he's uber rich. I like them, and I'm sucked in.

Items:
Window Location 774 "... walked up behind her standing at the window, staring out at the city lights."

Fish Location 347 "'She loves you, Simba. Maybe if I tell her that you are pining and off your feed she'll come back.' So I was talking to fish now."

Rug Location 2056 "my office desk... the rug in front of the fireplace... balcony lounger, and even the gym."

Pizza Location 612 "Candlelight and pizza are excellent with the right person."

Bonus: Smoke Location 1559 "... the smoke from his clove handrolled swirling and tantalizing, making my mouth water."

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) Alana so sorry I didn't get back to your question. I see you found another form of smoke so it is a mute point now. But yeah your first one wasn't quite what I was looking for I wanted the actual item smoke. However, to be fair since I didn't respond I would have taken it had you used it since you didn't know.

For animals it has snake, fish, dog, cat, horse, bird (if duck counts),

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) Dare You To (Pushing the Limits, #2) by Katie McGarry

Read: Dare You To by Katie McGarry
Finished: 5/18/13
Rating: 4½♥'s

Review:
Officially, my rating is 4½♥'s. There was just something I can't quite name at this time that was holding it back... no wait. I know what it was... I'll get back to that point.

If you are a fan of Pushing the Limits, then this is really a no-brainer. Yes, this story does not revolve around Noah and Echo, but they do have cameos. And you may balk at Beth, but I really understood her so much better, and liked her so much better after reading this book.

Why it fell short of a full 5♥'s. The bedroom action... granted, this is one of those borderline YA/NA and there is more than enough 'other' stuff (drinking, drugs... after all, this is a story about teenagers.) But the aftermath of the love scene really disappointed me. It wasn't bad, I just wasn't as enamored with that part. In addition to that, one of the things I loved so much about Pushing the Limits was how big a role the teacher played. This is a different story, so obviously not everything is going to be the same. But the 'teacher' role in this was understated and underwhelming.

Please, please, don't get me wrong, I still LOVED this book. It even gave me a book hangover of sorts where I just haven't found the right book to start reading after this. Doesn't happen very often, and I have to give props to accomplishing that.

I received an ARC via NetGalley in exchange for a honest review.

Items:
Bedroom Location 1330 "Before I can even reach the guest bedroom Scott declared as mine, Allison stalks in behind me,"

Bugs Location 425 "... the sight of bugs buzzing near the stadium lights, the roughness of the dirt beneath your cleat."

Stool Location 2410 "I stand so abruptly the stool wobbles then crashes to the floor."

Vegetable Location 747 "The moment she spears the small round vegetable, Mom glares at Dad."

Bonus: Lightning Location 1895 "... game-changing sound of nature intervenes: thunder and lightning."
