Cassie (dreamjinx) | 8 comments I know that is really vague, but when I was a little girl I had this book about a cat. It was illustrated and it was about a cat that wasn't happy with his comfy place by the fire, so he goes looking for somewhere else to sleep. It was beautifully illustrated and he went places like a hot air balloon above a waterfall, in the dark, in this huge cat igloo, on a grassy hill, on cloud nine, in a clock shop and there are some other ones mentioned as well. It ends with him deciding that he wants to go home and he is then content with his seat by the fire. I know this is a vague description and I've searched everywhere but I can't find it, If you could give me the title or author that would be greatly appreciated.

PS
When I searched a book called 'Cats sleep anywhere' appeared, it's not that.

Thank you! Cassie xxx

Laina (lshockley) | 196 comments Hi Cassie!

That could be Nicola Bayley, I read her Animal Cat series as a little girl and it is about different cats imagining that they are other animals. I don't recall the book you describe but perhaps she is the author.

A book with a similar theme is Where's Willie - I don't think this is your book though, as Willie the kitten explores more everyday places like mailbags and laundry bags.

Good luck!

Cheryl (cherylllr) It sounds memorable if one has actually read it. And I want to do so! Please bump this thread every month or two so more people see it. You might also want to ask in the Children's Books group.

Jaina Rose (ireadtilldawn) | 52 comments My little sister absolutely loves cat books, and I seem to recall reading this to her at some point. I'll ask her about it and see if she remembers anything about it. I think it might be about a cat who gets adopted and then wanders away, though, so it might not fit. I just remember laughing at a cat in an air balloon!

Jaina Rose (ireadtilldawn) | 52 comments Nope, my sister doesn't remember it. I'll keep an eye out for it, because I know we own it (somewhere . . . ), but I don't even know if it's the one you're thinking of. If you just want cat books, I could ask my sister for her favorites, though.

There was a book I read to my children which was called 'The Outside Cat' It could possibly be the one.

Cassie (dreamjinx) | 8 comments Thank you but that's not it. I remember it having a pale blue cover, though it was a long time ago so it might not. The cat was ginger and it was centred mainly around the illustrations. Thank you though :)

Cassandra--where were you when you read this? With your use of "ginger" for a colour, I'm thinking, not the U.S.

Hot-Air Henry?

A sassy Siamese cat stows away on a hot air balloon and ends up taking a fur-raising flight across the mountains.

This sounds familiar... In the meanwhile, here's a book with a similar theme that's nicely illustrated: Meerkat Mail by Emily Gravett.

SarahBeth | 86 comments Could it be Where to Sleep by Kandy Radzinski? The cover matches your description, but the little bit I can find out about it sounds like it take place mostly on a farm.

Cheryl (cherylllr) Here's a bump for summer. Come back in a couple months and bump it again, ok?

Mir | 805 comments There is a picture book series with a kitten named Mike; the only one I've read had him going to the North Pole by accident. The illustrations are kind of old-fashioned and realistic, with minimal colors.

Cassie (dreamjinx) | 8 comments Hey! So I've looked at all the books suggested and they haven't been any of them. I am in the UK and I must have read it 10+ years ago because I was only a little girl. Thanks for all of your help so far and I'll keep this thread updated in case I find it :)

Cassandra--come in periodically and bump up the thread even if you haven't found it. We are constantly getting new members and having members who'd dropped out coming back. the usual Bump up time period is 30 to 90 days.

She Reads | 110 comments *I* want to know the name of this book

Cassie (dreamjinx) | 8 comments Wow 7 years since I've posted this thread! I keep having late night searches for this book and still haven't found it! Recap, it's a book about a ginger cat looking for the perfect place to sleep, he goes to many places including a giant snow cat/igloo, cloud 9, a grassy hill. It was really beautifully illustrated and had a pale blue cover with one of the illustrations inside on the front, I'm in the UK and read it when I was in primary school and I'm almost 25 now so it was a while ago! I will keep this updated if I find it in the mean time.

Is this a picture book or children's chapter book/novel?

Can you describe the illustrations - e.g., simple or detailed, realistic or cartoon-like, painted watercolors or bold graphics? Do they remind you of a similar illustrator or picture book author?

I added some details to the header/topic title. You can update it by clicking the small "edit" link after the header. This only works on the full Desktop website - not the Mobile website or app. (On the Mobile website, click the "Desktop version" link at the bottom of the page.)

Cassie (dreamjinx) | 8 comments Thank you for updating the header! It was a picture book with very whimsical illustrations, it was more like painted with brush stroke like style if that makes sense. It's not sleep tight ginger kitten but thank you for the suggestion! The book was set at night so it had a lot of beautiful dark blue and black backgrounds against the bright ginger cat.

Again if I find any updates at all I will let you know thank you :)

Denis DeLong | 211 comments Possibly Mr. Pusskins: A Love Story by Sam Lloyd, or one of the other Pusskins books?

Tab (tabbrown) | 5084 comments Doesn't fully fit, but in Nini Here and There the cat dreams about flying in a hot air balloon and on a cloud.

Becca (beccalikesbooks) | 5541 comments I think I've found this one! Over the Moon by Paul and Shawn Rice. I couldn't find a Google Books preview but there's a copy on archive.org - https://archive.org/details/overmoon0...
Some quotes:
First she imagined being blown up like a balloon, drifting to sleep amongst the stars.

“I will build a giant snow-cat igloo,’ she said excitedly, ‘‘and I will curl up deep inside where nothing will trouble my sleep.”

"But with all those awful clocks ticking and whirring and binging, how will I ever get to sleep?”

There's also a page with the caption 'On Cloud Nine' that shows clouds shaped like the numbers 1-9 and Pumpkin (the cat) lying on the 9.
