new_user Well, that's good news! I have it on my TBR. :)

message 402: by Amanda (last edited Nov 27, 2009 09:21PM) (new)

Amanda (aeriga) I just finished Strange Angels (Strange Angels #1) by Lili St. Crow , and it wasn't very good. It just didn't appeal to me, and some of the action scenes were poorly described.
Next I'm going to start Gil's All Fright Diner by A. Lee Martinez

I enjoyed The Gargoyle. It's different but still was an ok read.

message 404: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) I thought that the Gargoyle would be in the UF category. Definately not. The book warrants a second read. I'm sure I didn't catch all the symbolism or connections, but with my TBR pile so large I don't see that happening any time soon.

message 405: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (theholyterror) | 132 comments I haven't been reading a lot the last week because of school and spending time with family ... but I'm in between these books right now, in order of how interested I am in them:

On the Edge (The Edge, #1) by Ilona Andrews [image error] [image error] Real Murders (Aurora Teagarden Mystery, #1) by Charlaine Harris

On the Edge is the most intriguing so far, I honestly like it better than Magic Bites already.

Under the Dome is my first Stephen King book, surprisingly enough. When I read what this book was about I couldn't get it out of my head. I just have to know what's going on. The deaths are gruesome and sad but it's gotten to the point where I'm almost complete desensitized to it.

Pirate Latitudes reminded me of False Colors at first and I was afraid to keep going. But I decided to read it on my breaks at work and I was pleasantly surprised. It caught my interest and I'm upset I had to leave it at work! So I won't be able to continue reading it until Tuesday.

Real Murders is really showing its age and I got a little bored with it at first. The good thing is, it's a very fast read so if I tried I could finish it in a few hours.

Under The Dome is a huge book for your first Stephen King book. I've only read one and decided that I like Stephen King but couldn't read his books back to back. I'm curious to see what you think of the book when you're done!

I liked the Aurora Teagarden series, well the 3 I've read.

message 407: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (theholyterror) | 132 comments Yeah, I don't know what's gotten in to me this month with giant books! I read two 500 page books back to back and now I'm working on Under the Dome. What sucks is I can only keep it for 14 days before I have to take it back so I hope I finish it!

I'm sure I'll like Real Murders too, but it's harder for me to get into books that don't have any paranormal elements. But it's Charlaine Harris so I'm giving it a try.

That's probably the whole reason I haven't continued reading the series (one day I hope to). I need that paranormal element in my books to keep me interested.

Although I have learned thought that Apocolyptic fiction holds my attention just as well.

Shannon (theholyterror) | 132 comments Shanon wrote: "Although I have learned thought that Apocolyptic fiction holds my attention just as well."

Hmm, well I think the only apocalyptic-type books I've read had vampires or zombies in them ... I think I need the paranormal stuff because I want to read about something that wouldn't happen in real life. I already live in the real world so why would I want to read about it? At least, that's really the only way I can explain it. A book has to be really good to hold my attention if there isn't any fantasy, or at least have really hot sex scenes! ; )

message 410: by [deleted user] (new)

I also just bought Under the Dome. It seems really good, I've never read any of his larger books, but 've read other smallers books and short stories, it seems to be another SK Epic.

I know he got the idea for the book while trying to write a different story about canabils.

Love it Shannon! I have been known to enjoy an EXCELLENT book with no paranormal stuff in it because of the level of hotness involved!

Hi Heather,
I love the Lords of the Underworld series! I really enjoy all of Gena Showalters books. I find her writing style very funny, sexy, and smart.

message 416: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn (kathry) I've recently been rereading many of my favorite urban fantasy series. Over the last few weeks, I've reread Patricia Briggs's Alpha and Omega and Mercy Thompson series. I'm also in the middle of Charlaine Harris's Sookie Stackhouse series, actually in the middle of book 4 at the moment. That's how I know I love a series, because I can pick it back up and still throroughly enjoy it.

I'm also in the middle of Lori Handeland's Nightcreature series, which is fun but probaly not anything I'll ever read again.

I also started 24 Bones, which so far I'm really enjoying. I think many people in this group would enjoy it.

message 421: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) I'm nearly finished with Silent Night, Haunted Night (Nicki Styx, #4) by Terri Garey and just started Dead Man Talking (Pepper Martin, #5) by Casey Daniels . I finished Shadowland (The Immortals, #3) by Alyson Noel , which I REALLY didn't like. I won't bother with this series any more. And also finally finished [image error] , which I also wouldn't recommend.

I really like the Nicki Styx books! SILENT NIGHT, HAUNTED NIGHT was very good, IMHO! I haven't been disappointed in any of the books in this series yet.

message 427: by Julia (new)

Julia | 119 comments I finished over the long weekend:

Strength in What Remains Strength in What Remains A Journey of Remembrance and Forgiveness by Tracy Kidder which was very good non-fiction about a man who loved through the genocide in Burundi & Rwanda was homeless in NYC and went to college & medical school.

Fire Fire by Kristin Cashore which was excellent fantasy.

And Paper Cities Paper Cities An Anthology of Urban Fantasy by Ekaterina Sedia that I got from the librbary & has some (ok, two) interesting stories, but I do not recommend it.

About to start the YA Where the Kissing Never Stops. Where the Kissing Never Stops by Ron Koertge

I'm currently reading (well, listening to the audiobook) The Well of Ascension. Goodness it's a long book! 796 pages and over 25 hours. Good think I'm enjoying it but I probably won't pick up the 3rd book, The Hero of Ages for a while.

I just finished Magic in the Shadows and loved it. I think the series is going to be really strong. Such a complex world and wonderful characters.

I started The Story of the Stone a while ago but haven't had much time to read it so I'm hoping to get more time this week.

new_user It's actually a person's soul; it's just given a body. That's why the daemon is always changing until the person matures. And that's why they can't be separated. It might be easier to think of it as a person's other half, soulmate, or alter ego.

For Lament, it's too soon to tell as I'm only a few pages in so far, but I am liking The Heart of the Sea. I'm not sure if I like it as much as the other two in the trilogy, but I am still enjoying it.

it was actually pretty good, and humorous. It has a lot of girly elements but after a bit you get used to it. I'll probably read the next one in the series ...one day :P

message 446: by Valorie (new)

Valorie I just finished A Girl's Guide to Vampires (Dark Ones, #1) by Katie MacAlister Well unfortunately I can only say this first book was just OK for me. I found the two female characters kinda annoying and childish. I did think there was some smart and witty writing so I will try the next book in the series and hopefully it will get better. I'm now moving on to The Hunger (Companion, #2) by Susan Squires

message 447: by Shannon (new)
