I think the differences between the two version are bits of british slang. Although they've left some in the US versions, like Ron calling someone a git. And of course, the title of the first book was changed. I'd love to get a copy of the UK set but I don't think I can convince my british fiance to buy me a set and put them in his luggage. lol
I have a couple of the first Harry Potter audio books downloaded off the net. (Won't do it anymore. lol) I have a couple with Jim Dale reading them and a couple with Stephen Fry. I can't remember if I've listened to the Stephen Fry versions or not yet but I want to.
I finished Quidditch Through the Ages yesterday, a Hogwarts Library book. Fit a sports category for a challenge as well as a Q title book for A-Z book title challenge. Still working on Goblet of Fire.
In June I'll read the first of two James Potter novels. They are free to download online. James Potter and the Hall of Elders' Crossing and James Potter and the Curse of the Gate Keeper. You can download one off GRs, for the other you have to go to his website. There are also a few Harry Potter christmas short stories which I downloaded but havn't read yet. First novel is just over 400 pages, second is just over 300. They are by G. Norman Lippert based on J.K Rowlings work. They follow Harry's sons James and Albus as they are now of the age to enter Hogwarts themselves.
As I'm a third of the way or more through Goblet of Fire but now busy doing other things, I'm going to switch and listen to the Audio book. However, I'm starting over as I'm listening to the Stephen Fry version. (I looked at my files and I have the first 5 UK versions read by Stephen Fry and have the first 6 books read by Jim Dale.)

by Philip Pullman

About to start reading a YA book called The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. It's not urban fantasy but it looks GREAT! Sounds kind of like 'Battle Royale' meets 'The Running Man', not a terribly original concept but judging by reports, it's done very, very well here.
I'm was also reading 'Grave Peril,' but I lost my copy of it after drunken misadventures (good luck to whoever finds it lying in a bar or bus somewhere.) I'll track down a new copy but I'm not shedding any tears. It's the third book in the Dresden Files and introduces a 'buddy' character without properly introducing him. It just says "Here's a character who Harry's started going on adventures with. They get on like a house of fire, you'll LOVE him!" I would've preferred more of a back-story, how they met, etc, etc and I'm really not sure about the buddy dynamic, especially when the buddy in question is a nice guy with a good marriage and a happy family. He might as well have 'DEAD MAN' stamped on his face.
As well as that, the plot isn't even that well established. It just throws you into the middle of the story, and Harry vaguely refers to the events leading to the second act instead of going back and showing us. I find this incredibly lazy but I enjoyed 'Storm Front' and I enjoyed most of 'Fool Moon' so I'm willing to stick with it.
Also reading 'Iron Kissed', which is nice because I'm going through a bit of a fairy period at the moment. That means reading books about fairies, not to be confused with hitting the tiles in 12-inch heels and a pencil skirt (no matter how much fun that sounds.)
I have a problem with 'City of Bones'. The last half of the book is exhilarating and crammed with fun plot twists and characters. Clary's uncle in particular and his back-story, who he is, is just downright cool.
But I found myself having to work to get through the first half. The first half is all exposition and I can only handle a little bit of exposition. I like to learn about a world by seeing it in action instead of listening to characters sitting around talking about it. It's like Cassandra Clare is so concerned with establishing the rules and back-story she only lets herself have fun in the second half of the book. That's when the action comes into it and that's when the book kicks into overdrive.
I don't know if anyone else had a similar experience.

I'm about half way through The Last Wish. Trying not to comment too much until I finish it.
Also started Grimspace, which I've been looking forward to for awhile and so far it's pretty good.

right now i am reading From Dead and Worse by Charlene Harris... i will have to say i love all the sookie books.. :) and this one is really good right now..
I finished up Firestorm last night and had to jump right into the next book in the Weather Warden series - Thin Air. It's an intense series and this one was left on a cliffhanger and I HAD to know what was going to happen.

However, I signed my son up for Harlequin's Teen Panel figuring I'd read the books they send him if he doesn't. First he was sent Poison Study by Maria Snyder. And in today's mail was a advance uncorrected proof advance reading copy of Intertwined by Gena Showalter. It says he was one of the lucky 50 to get a copy of the book.
I usually read what he reads (although not always) so figured I'd check these out. Poison Study looked good enough I went on Amazon's marketplace and bought used copies of the two sequels, Magic Study and Fire Study.
Eventually I get to read a vampire story, lol, as I have Secret of the Pale Lover by Clarissa Ross to read. It's a gothic vampire novel. I'm doing a reading challenge to read a book from every year of your life and it was the better of the 2 choices I could find in my own library from 1969.

Thanks Shazzy. I'll get to it eventually. I don't read much scifi/fantasy/pnr so spacing a few into my regular reads. I just finished the James Potter fanfic sequel to the Harry Potter series last night. (I posted a topic for it).

I have these on my list to read, too...I'm lucky enough to have my pda to use as an e-reader (actually, I use it that way quite a bit). Is the second sequel done? Last I looked, there were still new chapters being posted. I just started the last book again, and was debating whether or not to read the first sequel now, or until the second one was done...

I am starting Once Dead, Twice Shy today. I didn't realize how short of a book it is. I'm a little worried that there won't be too much world building & character development in a book this short - and that's why I love Harrison's Hollows series.

Dori, both of his sequels are now done. You can download both in their entirity. The first book off his website, the second one you can download right here at goodreads.
grrr... my computer with my Sunshine audiobook just crashed - as in crash and burn. I was really excited to start it =/ Now I need to figure out if I can save the info on it.
In the meantime I'm listening to The Road and reading Carpe Corpus

About 1/2 way thru EVERMORE and must agree, it's a very good book. Can't believe how much I've liked all these YA books I've picked up since TWILIGHT. Being a long way removed from the demographic you'd think I might get tired of them, but I've enjoyed all I've read except for the House of Night series. I hated the first one so much I definitely won't bother with others.

Yea it starts getting better near the end, i think blue moon (the sequel to Evermore) comes out this summer...

Really? I loved the House of night SEries, i agree book one wasnt that great, but you should at least try number two its currently my fave in the series :)

Next I'm planning on reading the Dragon Bones and Raven's Shadow series.
I recently went all out reading Rachel Caine's books so I figured I'd do the same with Briggs since she's another of my favorites. Next I'll tackle Charlaine Harris's other works.
I recently read all of Barb Hendee's books. I have one more book of hers left only because I've been unable to locate it.
I keep meaning to read everything of Briggs' & Lilith Saintcrow too. There are just some authors who you can be pretty sure you'll love everything they write.
Charlaine has some good series besides Sookie. You'll like the Harper Connelly series & the Aurora Teagarden is a great mystery series - nothing paranormal at all.

thats how I roll too. I like/love Briggs fantasy books. Hobbs bargian is a little odd, because I found it hard to relate to the hobb, but still really well developed world, charicters and plot. Dragon bones, dragon blood are good. Pretty much YA. I thought they weren't as well developed as the Mercy stuff and some others but was happy to read them.
I only have three books left from Caine. good stuff. I really like the new series with the fallen djinn.

And I'm jealous that you're reading The Strain! I would love to get my hands on that book.
I hope you like Let the Right One In. Very well written book.
I'm currently reading Skin Trade, the latest Anita Blake book & I'm listening to The Strain on audiobook.
I'm still in the beginning of both books so I'm anxiously awaiting some action from either book.
Lily - I'm excited you're reading Let The Right One In! I can't wait to hear what you think of it.

I'm glad you got it Kathryn! I'm on disc 4 & 11 and it's starting to get really good & creepy. It was fairly slow at first but now I'm hooked!
