I started Lord Loss yesterday and am about 2/3rds through. So far it's good. It's full of partial sentences - and I mean full. Usually that sort of thing bugs me when overused but it's working for this story, probably because of the first person point of view. I actually started thinking about my thoughts - usually not complete sentences either.

YAY for the Joe Pitt series. I've really enjoyed that series but not too many people have read it.

message 653: by Lily (new)

Lily (lilithesque) I tried reading the joe pitt series. I didn't get it. the way every sentence started with a dash really bugged me. Also, women were all really turned on by hime and he was missing a toe and and eye. I just didn't get it.

Maybe i needed to read this series from the first book. Maybe the author had already built the persona where it was beleivable that he was that sexy. I started with a new release when it was being discussed BOTM on B&N. I still intend to try the first book in that series and see if i get it then.

Lily I don't think you read the first book. The missing toe & eye doesn't come about until later. I bet you read the latest book, Over My Dead Body. I listened to the first two as an audiobook so I got to know the style of speech differently. I read the 3rd and it was a little harder because of the writting style.

He's not missing a toe or eye in Already Dead. I guess you've gotten a slight spoiler but I won't tell you which book or how they came about or even if they happen at the same time so you'll still be in the dark, mostly. Maybe we'll call it a teaser instead...

message 656: by Lily (new)

Lily (lilithesque) I'm sorry. I wasn't thinking when I blabbed that. Yes, the book I read is many books into the series. It was a new release a year or two ago. I dont remember the name. I wouldnt be surprised if he regenrates. I didnt finish the book and that seemed liek extreme stuff to do to the protag. See, I didnt' even know he was tall and muscular. the hardass snarky thing...yea, that was intact.

I must say, the folks on the blog I was on then, LOVE LOVE LOVE Joe Pitt and I was a true minority in my distaste. Dont let me detur you. I often dont like stuff others do and vise vera--and sometimes I am completely in line with the crowd. The true fun of reading and blogging.
Again please forgive me for the slight forshadowing or teasing or spoiling.

Do you like the Kusheil books. I have 5 of them in my TBR stack. Someone told me they're good, but I haven't got to them yet.

message 663: by Lily (new)

Lily (lilithesque) Carolyn,
I very much like the Kushel books. I have been reading it for years. It is Kind of Erotica/Fanatasy based on a world where thier savior primary standard is "Love as thou wilt" and they have taken the different types of love and lust and made it into a religion. When I first started reading this, I thought it really pushed the edge of mainstream reading. Having read LKH's books, its not so odd, but still.

Check um out! Carolyn F. wrote: "Lily wrote: "My current book is Kushiel's Mercy (Kushiel's Legacy, #6) by Jacqueline Carey.

Carolyn F. Thanks Lily, I like LKH's books too, so I'm sure I'll like these.

Three Days to Dead, Lover Avenged, On the Prowl and Howling at the Moon

I just got back from the library where I picked up both of our February reads. Thirteen Orphans and The Alchemy Of Stone. I'll be a little early but I was worried that someone would check them out if I waited.

message 667: by Jessi (new)

Jessi (jessim) I'm reading Covet (Fallen Angels, #1) by J.R. Ward . I put it off for a while b/c I didn't think it would be as good as the BDB series, but so far it is pretty good. The storyline is keeping me hooked

Pleasure Unbound is a good read. It does have some steamy writing in it. Overall I liked the story line.
Dante's and Wrath story are also very good. Ecstacy Unveiled just came out on Tues.(1/26, US). I'm going to buy it later can't wait!

Just finished Cry Wolf (my first Patricia Brigg's book or Wolf book) and found it quite interesting.
There's also a prequel to this series in the anthology On the Prowl which explains a lot of Anna and Charles background.

I'll second that! YOu don't see this series mentioned alot. I read MY DEAD BODY last month, which is the last in the series. Wasn't as good as I had hoped.

message 673: by Megan (new)

Megan Does anyone know if the Demonica series has to be read in order?

Megan aka *Mheghan* wrote: "Does anyone know if the Demonica series has to be read in order?"

I've only read the first one but I would assume it should be read in order for the world building alone (if nothing else). There is probably more information in the first book than in latter ones.

Melodie wrote: "I read MY DEAD BODY last month, which is the last in the series."

As in the very last of the series or the most recently released??

message 676: by Megan (new)

Megan Thanks Shanon. My local bookstore had book 4, but not 1-3.

message 678: by Megan (new)

Megan I've never asked, so I'm not sure. I'm trying to not buy as many books, but I'm not doing very well with that, lol. I just printed of my Huge TBR list and am gonna search my library this weekend. I've heard the Demonica books were good but know my library doesn't have them.

Michelle (lifeasabooknerd) I'm reading Waking Lazarus, then starting Oryx and Crake.
So far, I haven't decided whether I like WL or not. The premise of the story is good, the main character and the other character's development is so-so. A lot of holes to fill before this gets more than 2 stars. We'll see how it goes. This is what I get for reading Christian fiction, haha. And before anyone gets too crazy on me, I AM a Christian, so I'm digging on myself here. :)

message 681: by Shanon (new)

Shanon (boban) | 1166 comments Mod
I liked Oryx and Crake but after reading The Year of the Flood I have to agree with so many other people that Atwood does better with female protagonists.

I saw Walking Lazarus on your shelf and added it based on the description. When I saw it was Christian-Lit I almost removed it but decided it would be un-Christian of me to remove a book based on that alone :) HA I'll wait until you decide if you like it or not to decide if it gets the boot.

message 682: by Michelle (new)

I just finished Three Days to Dead (Dreg City, #1) by Kelly Meding and I really liked it. It was actually a great way to start the series.

message 688: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (lifeasabooknerd) I finished Waking Lazarus and Oryx and Crake. Started The Neverending Story and U is for Undertow. I've been on a pretty good run lately, getting lots of reading time and have been lucky to pick out books that I really like. I really miss my Kinsey Millhone, so I'm savoring that and I've always wanted the read the book that one of my favorite childhood movies is based on.

message 689: by Valorie (new)

Valorie I finished Midnight Awakening and really loved it! I'm now reading The Silver Wolf (Legends of the Wolves, Book #1) by Alice Borchardt I'm having a hard time getting into it. Hope it gets better.

message 690: by Megan (new)

Megan Finished The Dark Highlander (Highlander, #5) by Karen Marie Moning and started Wicked Lovely (Wicked Lovely, #1) by Melissa Marr last night.

message 691: by Valorie (new)

Valorie Well I just finished The Silver Wolf, sloooooow is all I can say. I think it was the slowest moving book I've ever read. Pretty shocking since she is Anne Rice's sister. Not sure if I'll read the next book in the series. I'm going to be starting on Eve of Chaos (Marked, Book 3) by S.J. Day next. I've really enjoyed that series. I need a good pick me up after The Silver Wolf!

message 692: by new_user (last edited Feb 02, 2010 08:19PM) (new)

new_user LOL. Following that logic, it's not really shocking that she's Anne Rice's sister. Anne Rice is slow as all get out, LOL.

Actually, I thought the first book of the Eve series was awfully slow.

message 693: by Shanon (new)

Shanon (boban) | 1166 comments Mod
Heavens yes Anne Rice is slow!! I read the first book in her Mayfair witches trilogy and liked the story okay but it took forever and a day to get to it. I keep saying one day I'll read the rest of her books but I will probably only do that when I don't have anything else to read... so... um... I guess I won't.

I just started The Monstrumologist and right off the bat we've got grave robbing, body snatching and a still unknown creepy creature. If this pace keeps up I'll be up all night reading.

message 694: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) I finished listening to Kitty Takes a Holiday and Kitty and the Silver Bullet. And am listening to Kitty and the Dead Man's Hand. Still reading Syren and Nightshade

message 695: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sarah_anne) | 60 comments I bought and finished Flirt (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #18) by Laurell K. Hamilton yesterday. While it was an easy read, I was kinda disappointed! I think I expected too much... It was bad, but it just didn't live up to the last couple of books.

Next for me are Covet (Fallen Angels, #1) by J.R. Ward , Night Lost (Darkyn, #4) by Lynn Viehl and probably a Stephanie Plum book to mix it up!

message 696: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (lifeasabooknerd) Finished U is for Undertow. It's my guilty vice, I've read all of the Alphabet series and this one was pretty good, but not my favorite. Pretty close though. I am still working on The Neverending Story and started The Dead Whisper On. Trying to get all of my library books read and returned so my fines aren't more than the cost of the books. :) So far, so good. I've actually read everything I've checked out, save 3 books that I am going to finish this week. No fines for me, for once. :) I really need to start American Psycho and I'm DYING to start Under the Dome.

message 697: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) Paula wrote: "I finished listening to Kitty Takes a Holiday and Kitty and the Silver Bullet. And am listening to Kitty and the Dead Man's Hand. Still reading Syren and ..."

KITTY & THE DEAD MAN'S HAND is my least favorite of that whole series. I was terribly disappointed with it. KITTY RAISES HELL was better and KITTY'S HOUSE OF HORRORS was a return to her previous form!
