I’m originally from New York and a physically challenged Latino writer. Writing has always been a part of my life—I’ve penned hundreds of short stories and completed four full manuscripts. I was very active on Medium and Vocal for a while, and after achieving several tops stories and finally placing in one of their writing contests, I gained the confidence to begin my publishing journey.

I began writing almost as soon as I could make letters, insisting that my name was in fact “Avig” and inscribing that in my board books. I wrote poems in college and began working on short stories and novels not long after. I worked as a journalist in West Virginia and North Carolina, where I returned to school to get an MFA at Queens University of Charlotte, then closed out my working life as a professor at NC A&T State University.

I am a Scottish writer living in Perthshire. I took early retirement in 2019 after a 34 year career in education to write seriously. I have completed a second novel, a family saga examining the power of the family to influence life choices, and am currently completing a third novel, a dystopian thriller.

Well, where do I start? I’m Heather Choate—professional daydreamer, full-time mom, and part-time dragon whisperer (okay, that last one is only on Tuesdays). I’ve penned my fair share of tales, with Fighting for Our Lives being my most personal and heartfelt. As for numbers, let’s just say I’ve written enough books to make my laptop cry for mercy but not enough to keep me from saying, ‘Just one more!’ Some are adventurous fantasy escapades, others dive deep into life’s rawest battles, but all are fueled by faith, love, and a healthy dose of caffeine.

I love waking up in the morning and the fog is so thick I can barely see ten feet in front of me. At night, the stars are so crisp and clear like a twinkling blanket over the earth.

I only recently began publishing. After I retired a few years ago, I began crafting. However, last year I finally had to admit that I no longer has the fine motor control necessary to craft. However, I could still use a computer and a mouse. Eventually, I discovered KDP and self publishing, and in June 2024 I published my first adult coloring book. Since then I’ve published over 125 books: adult coloring, word search, journals, scrapbook patterns books, as well as about five non-fiction and two fiction novels.
