Hiro (mythli) STICKY NOTES!!!!! They can save your page as well as the paragraph and or sentence. So if you would like to use one. HIGHLY suggest it. Other than that I use a butterfly bookmark that I made. So yeah.

Kathy | 3 comments I have quite a pile of bookmarks – made from card notes, postcards, advertisements, etc. creatively cut to make unusual shapes; a few holy cards; some old theatre tickets; actual bookmarks from libraries and bookstores. Occasionally I choose a bookmark to coordinate with the book I’m reading, like a picture of frogs for a nature book; sometimes it is the opposite of the reading material, a nosegay of flowers for a gory murder mystery. But usually it’s just a random grab. I often think I should clean out my hundred or so bookmarks – but I can never decide which have seen enough duty, so the pile grows.

Heaved forbid is right! I attended a Catholic school and I was taught one of the greatest sins in the book world is to put an open book face down - breaks the binding. And you don't fold page corners either. And God forbid you ever write in a book! All three book sins were punishable by several raps across the knuckles with a ruler. Knuckle wraps were part of the nuns' training. I still have fat knuckles 60 years later. But I've been sinless for the last 59 years - book sinless. Other sins... not so true. Forgive me Father, for I have sinned... but my bookmarks are pure. 'Cept that chocolate chip cookie kind of left a mark... Ouch! Ouch! Goddammit! Put that ruler down!!! I'm warning you; I'm packing a Tolstoy!

LOL!!! I don't think they could get away with that these days. Parents would cry child abuse.

message 105: by Ron (new)

Ron (ronb626) | 3884 comments I am a graduate of the University of Oregon. I go to most of their home football games.

My bookmark is a ticket form a game in 2010 against Stanford. Oregon was behind, early, by about 2 touchdowns. Then, rallied and won the game by 3 touchdowns. One of my favorite Oregon Duck games.

Only wish I had held onto my ticket from the 2002 Fiesta Bowl game when we beat Colorado and finished up #2 in the nation. Of course, if I had kept that ticket and used it as my bookmark, it'd be in tatters by now. The same fate beginning to mark the end of my present bookmark. Oregon needs another big, signature win this upcoming season for me to have a new bookmark!

DonnaCarol | 187 comments I use the plastic plant markers that you find in new pots of flowers & or vegies. I have a large variety of sizes, with pictures of flowers ,fruits, berries ,etc....I use a hole punch and add a tassel to match colors to the end and it makes a great bookmark that lasts a long time. And I get to enjoy the plant as a bonus. :)

message 112: by Michael (new)

Michael (micky74007) I use the 2" square sticky note. Doesn't fall out, doesn't marr the book. If I want to mark a passage, I just use antoher sticky note until I can copy it out.

message 113: by Brad Jae (new)

Brad Jae | 2 comments almost anything receipt , bookmark, and sometimes even a dollar bills. basically anything that will get the job done!

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) I love bookmarks. Have a large amount of free ones from conventions, bookstores, and collecting them around. Also a group of purchased and gifted ones. My mains are from magneticbookmarks.com - 1.99 for the magnetic ones, been collecting them, love them. It's mainly all I use now as they won't fall out of the book, won't lose the place or get lost, and also don't damage the book. With how I walk around with books in my duffle bag everywhere, regular bookmarks would sometimes slip.

message 115: by Lydia (new)

Lydia Sadler | 12 comments While I do use bookmarks when I can find them, most of the time it will be a piece of paper folded in half

message 116: by [deleted user] (new)

I use a lot of different things for bookmarks, scraps of paper, sticky tabs, but my favorites or the fancy bookmarks. I have to use a different bookmark for every book that I read and I try to match the bookmark with the book

Im like this a lot of the time with my magnetic bookmarks lately. May as well live it up the small ways right?

message 118: by Leigh (new)

Leigh | 6291 comments I have never seen a magnetic bookmark. Off to look them up.

message 119: by [deleted user] (new)

I know this is sacrilegious, but I use a dog ear...I bend the little corner where I leave off. I feel terrible, but kitty cats and rainbow bookmarks just don't do it for me.

message 120: by April (new)

April | 6 comments I have a few book marks that I have made myself... pressed flowers, braided thread with beads in the ends and tassels. but I misplace those and end up using bills

Laura/Mystery in Minutes | 57 comments I usually use the free bookmarks from my library. My favorite for a while has been a special bookmark that the library was giving out during Banned Books Week last year. It says : Celebrate the freedom to READ. I love that sentiment.

Ron (ronb626) | 3884 comments Rhian wrote: "my face! i usually pass out while reading in bed lol sometimes its the floor if i was laying on my side while reading tho"

Now, that drew a chuckle out of me! Been there, done that!

And, I hate it when it happens. Sometimes it takes me quite a while to find where I was in the book. Page-wise, that is.

And, the times that I think I'm on page 109, for instance, only to discover that, while I was correct, I'd "read" several pages that I really didn't get that much out of. As I start on 110, I realize that I know nothing of what is going on in the story. Then, I find out that while I'd read pages 101-108, I really didn't remember that part of the story. Happens that way when I fall asleep reading. Some pages that I "read", need re-reading...

Kate Diffley (katediffley) Different bookmarks I never bend pages

message 125: by Seeley (new)

Seeley James (seeleyjames) The author of The Girl Who Would Be King by Kelly Thompson had some really cool looking bookmarks made, so I bought a bunch.

Peace, Seeley

April, after I left the computer I realized you meant bills you pay like hydro and water. Please excuse my dumb moment. That's actually very practical. You won't forget to pay them on time.

Does she make and sell bookmarks, or do you mean promotional?

K.T. (ktbowes) The worst thing I've used is a square of clean tissue in a hurry when I had nothing else.

message 129: by [deleted user] (new)

This week it's my son's physical therapy schedule. I could say I have a stack of beautiful bookmarks but I don't. Hehe. I don't dog-ear books. If I lose my place it's easily found later.

message 130: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Williams (amanda1972) I have a selection of bookmarks that use that friends, family and I have brought from our holidays and day trips.

message 132: by Ron (new)

Ron (ronb626) | 3884 comments I will sometime bend a page, but, only on paperbacks. Never on a hard bound.

message 133: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Frankie (mskris1031) I have one special one that my SIL made for me. Most of the time though, I use whatever is around...receipts, toilet paper or paper towels, etc.

message 134: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (finegael) | 690 comments I have a bookmark that came with a book that I bought at a bookstore in NH, and tend to use it, although sometimes I have multiple books going at one time. If it is a library book, I use the slip with the due date that I got when I checked out the book as my bookmark.

message 135: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Dusenbury | 32 comments my reading glasses, just one of the ear pieces stuck in between the pages. This carries the additional benefit of being able to find my glasses when I want to read.

message 136: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Eisenmeier (carpelibrumbooks) I use random pieces of paper, or if I can't find any, then I try to remember the page number.

message 137: by Val (new)

Val (valz) | 51 comments I often use toilet paper, (I'm blushing) and I'm sure you can imagine why.

message 138: by Kay (new)

Kay Faupel | 1028 comments I have a couple favorite bookmarks but I'm currently using a souvenir from a summer excursion to Great Wolf lodge in Grapevine, Texas.

Love it!!!!!

message 140: by Linda (new)

Linda | 1490 comments Anything I can get my hands on. If I've gone to the theatre and have a ticket for a play I've read or something related to the play (like Richard III by Shakespeare), I usually use the ticket while I'm reading and then leave it in the book as a kind of souvenier. When I read library books, I use the small slip that lists the books and the due dates. If I have an actual bookmark, I might use that. I have a stack of them I've picked up various places that are on the ledge next to the sofa where I read. I've used bills (and sometimes forgotten they're there!), prescriptions, notes from my husband, shopping lists (then I wonder why I can't find them anywhere!), pens and pencils, you name it.

Ilene (ilene-rachel) | 16 comments When I'm not reading via my Kindle (I never thought I'd like it, and resisted using it for months after I got it, but now I'm addicted to it), I use these wonderful thin little metal arrow-like page clips called Book Darts. I originally bought them at a bookstore (I think it was Barnes & Noble), but wanted a larger quantity, so I found the company's online site and got them that way. I still love them. They're great because they point to the line you want them to, plus they don't fall out easily. http://www.bookdarts.com/

message 148: by Kay (new)

Kay Faupel | 1028 comments I prefer something plastic or rigid, so I use gift cards, I D passes & I will make bookmarks out of interesting stamps from letters or packages. I use a laminator at work or arrange between 2 pieces of clear packing tape.

message 149: by Ron (new)

Ron (ronb626) | 3884 comments I go to football games of my alma mater, University of Oregon. I use the used tickets as bookmarks. Presently, I'm using tickets from last years games vs California and Washington State. The Cal game was played in a downpour and both my buddy and I stayed for the whole game. And, not many did. The Washington State game was the game when they used Pink helmets to support the fight against breast cancer. It was the players idea and I don't think I've ever been more proud of them for doing that. Those helmets created quite a controversy, as many people didn't think they were "manly" enough. What's more "manly" than standing up for something that you believe in.

Oh, and, we won both games in a rout! Go Ducks!!!

message 150: by Laurie (new)

Laurie | 2 comments hahaha, whatever I can get my hands on. I use envelopes, recipe cards, sticky notes, bills, grocery ads, bits of torn newspaper, and bookmarks. I never fold over the corner, though. My first grade teacher told us that was a no-no and that it "hurt" the book, like physical pain, so I've tried to never do that.
