Ella Thomas I use the envelope my Mothers Day card came in - my son has written 'Mammy' on it and my daughter has coloured in randomly on it! it's big and colourful so i can't lose it, but it's fairly dog eared already, will have to use the envelope my B'day card comes in when it dies :)

James (birchoverjames) I could fall in love with such a liberated self sufficient woman. LOL
If I'm ever attacked by a crocodile I know who to call.

N Sure crocs no drama but rats? eeeeeek lol.

message 59: by James (new)

James (birchoverjames) Rats are making a comeback in the UK they reckon their numbers are on the increase. This time last year a couple of ur neighbours saw rats in their gardens, because of the wet weather. There natural habitats had become water logged.

C. Stepp I just use the little icon there at the upper right-hand corner of my browser...

message 61: by Ava Catherine (new)

Ava Catherine I recently received a postcard which is an invitation to an art exhibition that is a perfect bookmark. Sometimes everyday items make the best bookmarks.

message 62: by Tetsu (new)

Tetsu Ishikawa (tetsuishikawa) | 11 comments I am using a paper clip in rabbit form as bookmark.. Photo here. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbi... This is very convenient for me.

Ava Catherine Tetsu, I LOVE your rabbit bookmark! So sweet. ; ) It is a perfect bookmark.

message 64: by Tetsu (new)

Tetsu Ishikawa (tetsuishikawa) | 11 comments Hi! Connie, it's so funny, isn't it? But, yeah, it's perfect! We Japanese make a strange stuff.

message 65: by Tetsu (new)

Tetsu Ishikawa (tetsuishikawa) | 11 comments Hi!Ashton. I am sorry as you had misunderstanding. I don't manage it. It was attached to the book which I borrowed at a library. Probably this is someone girl's thing left behind. I got it and use it for two years. Well,,,I have another funny one. It's a form of NOSE! Photo here. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbi... However, since this is too large, it's hard to use as a bookmark.

message 66: by Kimi (new)

Kimi (hateeverybeautifulday) I switch vetween using my faux-fur covered one with a leopards head (from Waterstones!) or, as I'm using at the moment, my kitty bookmark calender.

Linda (beaulieulinda117gmailcom) | 1403 comments I'm currently using my Edward bookmark.

message 68: by Holly (new)

Holly | 104 comments I have a few bookmarks around the house. If I can't get to/find one, then I'll usually use whatever's on hand, like a scrap of paper or an old receipt or something like that.

Donna | 64 comments Connie wrote: "I recently received a postcard which is an invitation to an art exhibition that is a perfect bookmark. Sometimes everyday items make the best bookmarks."
My daughter and her friend recently brought home a handful of artistic cards from an art show. She thought I could use them for post cards in my class' post card exchange. They are awfully pretty to share. Perhaps hidden in a book is best.

message 70: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (temagami) | 45 comments I received a postcard from a new author in Paris and am using it as a bookmark...it's so unique.

message 71: by Yvonne (new)

Yvonne (ladyblue999) | 6 comments Paper clips or junk mail cards

message 72: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (veraj121) Sometimes I use an old Metrocard as a book mark...when I am not reading from an ereader

message 73: by Karen (new)

Karen I have a little metal silver colored holder one of my kids made in high school machinery class I hold all my book marks I happened to get from them or at bookstores, etc. I just grab one of them off my window sill in the metal holder.

message 77: by Adri (new)

Adri (jadri7) | 1354 comments My daughters school pictures always come with a picture bookmark so I use that one often. I'm also obsessed with owls and recently picked up some really cute magnetic owl clips.

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 601 comments I use the bookmarks that my kids bring home that are of different animals or seasons but my favorite is the ones that came with my kids school pictures.

message 79: by Ray (new)

Ray Chance | 16 comments I use opera ticket stubs from the Tucson Opera. They are quite beautiful with full color scenes from each opera.

message 80: by fabby (new)

fabby | 1235 comments used to ear dog it but i got one bookmark with my kids pics on it so that what I'll be using from now on

message 81: by Ray (new)

Ray Chance | 16 comments Great comment... most people do not understand that as a book ages, the "dog ears" eventually drop off the page!

message 82: by Victoria (new)

Victoria | 4 comments My go to bookmark is a laminated one with a tassel. It's the only kind I'll use now because the tassel keeps the bookmark from falling down out of the book when I've tucked it into pages ahead for safe keeping.

message 83: by Dee (new)

Dee (hatcherdee) I have a lot of animals and my vet is always sending me postcards about who is due for a checkup or a vaccination. They usually have cute animals on them and they make great bookmarks.

message 84: by Katherine (new)

Katherine | 220 comments Ray wrote: "Great comment... most people do not understand that as a book ages, the "dog ears" eventually drop off the page!"

When my dad caught me turning down the corner of a page he explained to me that wasn't the way to mark a page. To use something else to mark your page like a 'bookmark'. "Someone else might want to read the book later and it won't be fair that you have damaged it".

Also, the library fined people that marked books with 'dog ears' (that's what we used to call them)

message 85: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Corley | 1298 comments I will use anything that I can get my hands on but I did just buy a few bookmarks at my children's book fair recently!

message 86: by Linette (new)

Linette When I travel I look for bookmarks that remind me of something I loved about the place and I use those.

message 87: by Randi (new)

Randi (emberpigeon) At the moment I am using a bookmark that my friend got me in Costa Rica. Made from paper and hand painted.

message 88: by Richard (new)

Richard (richardcjennings) Usually the slip of paper from the library showing the return date

message 89: by Stefan (new)

Stefan Yates (stefan31) I use a variety of things. Sometimes actual bookmarks especially the ones that I get from my local used bookstore when I make a purchase (so naturally I have a LOT of those ;) I also find that it's a good way to use worthless football/baseball cards that I have a few of floating around and a fake 10,000,000 dollar bill that came from somewhere. We have a drawer that we reserve for bookmarks and anything that could suffice as a bookmark, so we always have some selection around. My favorite is a Carl Banks New York Giants card that says "Think About It...READ!" that I think we were given at school in 4th or 5th grade.

I have bookmarks that were given to me, I have free bookmarks from stores, but I also used the little magazines inserts (you know those pesky little paper cards that fall out of your magazines when you flip them the wrong way).

message 93: by Dave (new)

Dave Gehrke | 13 comments I like to read while enjoying a late night snack; usually milk and cookies or a bowl of cereal. Occasionally I have to get up from the table and get a refill and discover I am "bookmarkless". In those instances I get creative. I've tried a Rice Krispie, a Corn Flake, a chocolate chip cookie and occasionally a spoon - though I lick the milk off first. Some might say I'm tasteless.

message 94: by Casey (new)

Casey (liraelclayr) I cut up old greeting cards. I have about 10 to 15 bookmarks that I made by cutting out a small section of the card. I use the scraps for the kids to make mosaics at work :). I punch a hole in the top and run a ribbon through it.

message 95: by Leigh (new)

Leigh | 6291 comments So that's what I should with all those cards I have no idea what to to with, so I thorough them out.
;-)

message 96: by fabby (new)

fabby | 1235 comments Mother's day laminated. pictures of my kids made into a big bookmark (gigantic )

message 97: by Deb (new)

Deb (deb56) I collect bookmarks so those are usually put up but I do crochet my own and make my own out of cards. I do a lot of times use a piece of junk mail.

message 98: by Sara (new)

Sara Branmore (sarabranmore) | 4 comments I don't know where I read this or who said it, but it went something like this: "Why spend a dollar on a bookmark when you can simply use the dollar?"! Having said that, I use free bookmarks that come with my House Beautiful sub. Of course, with Kindle, we don't "use one"!

Yeah, heaven forbid we just turn the book upside down! LOL

message 100: by Seeley (last edited Jul 01, 2013 11:57AM) (new)

Seeley James (seeleyjames) I never gave bookmarks much thought. I have a small, unintentional collection of them from author signings at our local indie bookstore. BUT one day I read The Girl Who Would Be King and was blown away. A couple weeks later, the author offered bookmarks done by the books artist. I bought a set of them and use them like religious artifacts. My wife calls them Gollum's Bookmarks -- and that makes me... :)

Peace, Seeley
