Did you like this one Kourtney? I tried to read it and couldn't get through it...

message 103: by Jen B (new)

Jen B (jennybee618) I have that one...the only reason I got it (used bookstore) was because the guy's name is Colin, which is my son's name. Have yet to read it, though...it never really looks that appetizing when I head to my shelves.

I added you Kourtney. Can you post the book on PBS so I can grab it from you, please?

Oh ok - I sent you a PM asking for you to put it on your wishlist LOL (great minds think alike!) I will post it now!

I liked this book! After reading the very disappointing Wednesday Night Witches, this book was a breath of fresh air. It is predictable, but still a great read. I felt it kept my attention enough for me not to throw it across the room so I could breathe again :) I had been wanting to read this for a while, and would keep it had it not been for that one small issue of the cat dander.

Hee hee try not to think of your son if you do ever read it Jen!!!

Kourtney (readthateventually) | 1215 comments And as an added bonus - it is a quick read (I did manage to read it all in 1 day)

I'm sad to hear Wednesday Night Witches isn't great. I have/had really high expectations for that one. I'll still give it a go though.

Alicia (diva2416) | 819 comments Ok I have now read A Little Change of Face & How Nancy Drew Saved My Life both by Lauren Baratz-Logsted.........I was not a fan of either, and I see she has a few more RDI books. Are any of them worth reading? I was SOOOO disappointed in the Nancy Drew one.

message 111: by Stacy (new)

Stacy (stacymarie913) | 5567 comments Mod
Uh-oh! I have all of her RDI books. I haven't read any of them yet. I hope they're not all disappointing!

message 112: by Kourtney (new)

Kourtney (readthateventually) | 1215 comments I was not a fan of The Thin Pink Line and I could not STAND A Little Change of Face. I am giving both one more try to make sure I wasn't just in a bad mood. I have the Nancy Drew one hoping maybe she got better but I haven't read them yet.

message 113: by Alicia (new)

Alicia (diva2416) | 819 comments The only good thing about the Nancy books is that it made me want to read Nancy Drew books...other than that I thought it was ALL over the place.

message 114: by Stacy (new)

Stacy (stacymarie913) | 5567 comments Mod
Well, I think all these comments have made me mentally push her books to the back of the RDI line. LOL! Seriously though, I probably will not be reading one for a while...

message 115: by Alicia (new)

Alicia (diva2416) | 819 comments Haha sorry!! I was hoping she had some great book that I missed. I was just surprised, because for the most part I have really enjoyed all RDI books but this author is killing me.

Stacy (stacymarie913) | 5567 comments Mod
Ah well, they can't all be winners...unfortunately. There have actually been quite a few RDI's that I haven't been able to get through - most recently Inappropriate Men by Stacey Ballis.

I can't remember if this is RDI or not, the edition I have isn't.

Anyway, I've started forcing myself to read Let's Meet On Platform 8 again. I started it quite some time ago and couldn't get more than 40 pages into it. But instead of passing on books that I can't get into like I usually do, I held out hope for it because it's a Carole Matthews book and I love her books...usually.

message 118: by Tara (new)

Tara It's RDI. I started this book but haven't read much in the last day.

message 119: by Kourtney (new)

Kourtney (readthateventually) | 1215 comments I have that book somewhere around here. I will get to it one day :)

I managed to read a few more pages into it from where I left off the first time and have put it down again. LOL! I just can't seem to get into this one...

Ok, so I just started reading Melissa Senate's Questions To Ask Before Marrying. And at the bottom of page 48 is the French phrase, "joie de vivre."
Why am I writing about this? Well, it's because I just finished Isabel Wolff's A Vintage Affair and there were bits of French in there from time to time. (Actually, as much as I absolutely loved the book, it was kind of annoying as I do not know much French at all. And it wasn't really translated in the book either.) So, of course, this exact phrase appeared in there more than once.
I just found it kind of odd because I totally did not plan on reading this book. I wasn't sure what I wanted to start next and I guess you could say it sort of picked me.
I find that this type of thing often happens to me. I'm reading along and all the sudden, the book references something that has just happened to me in real life. Like a not so common word I may have used a few days before, I read in a book. Or something like today, where the exact phrase from one book, written by an English author and set in England, turns up in the next book I read, by an American author set in Maine.
That's why I think the book chooses me from time to time.
Has anyone else ever experienced this?

message 122: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 767 comments That is cool! Yes, it has happened to me too. I just recently read two books that talked about eating fried pickles! I have never in my life eaten a fried pickle and I think they sound gross. However, it sounds like they are pretty popular in the south.

I also just read two books that had the word "moon" in the title, and that was just a coincidence. One was a Nook book, and the other was a library book that came in so I had to read it next.

By the way, I love seeing French in books because I know French. But I recently read "The Last Little Blue Envelope" and there was some stuff in another language (if I remember correctly, it was Dutch) and I had no idea what they were saying. I ended up using Google translate because I just had to know!

Ooh! I'm on the waiting list at the library for that, I can't wait to get it!

It's so crazy how that stuff happens though. Questions to Ask Before Getting Married wasn't originally on my challenge list. I was just staring at my bookshelf trying to figure out something to read and it just kind of drew my attention.

Jencey/ (jencey) | 754 comments I was at Books A Million yesterday and saw several RDI books on clearance for $3.97. Might be worth checking the website.

I'm waiting for that book too. I'm next in line but it seems like it has been checked out for forever!

Did you notice it's a 28 day check-out?
I don't understand why the new YAs are 28 days, but the regular adult fiction are only 14 day check-outs.

Looks like it'll be August or September before it gets to me then. :( I may end up having to buy it for the Nook....YA is usually cheaper.

That happened to me a few months ago too! I realized that I had read three completely different kinds of books and they all mentioned war times decades ago in Russia and Germany. Weird.

So funny - I get emails from "Hungry Girl" - you know, the Weight Watchers/diet chick? - and today there was a recipe for fried pickles (well, healthier ones, so baked, but still)! I never thought about fried pickles until this thread and now they're showing up in my life, too!
