I finished The Places in Between set in Afghanistan. My review: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
I read Sherlock Holmes and the Whitechapel Vampire for the April toppler and really enjoyed it.Now I am going to continue with book #1 of the 'Outlander' series Cross Stitch which is taking me ages to read (because I am a slow-coach) but I absolutely love it so far!
I have begun A House for Mr Biswas, while I also listen to Truman which is very long! Actually, I find the non-fiction book more engaging than the fiction one! McCullogh is such a good writer.
I've had The Count of Monte Cristo going for some time now. I started this with another goodreads group in March and my fiancee later joined in. I am hoping that we will finish this week so that he & I can move on to I, Claudius with YLTO

it's off to a good start-can't wait to discuss it with all of you :)
I couldn't stand listening to all of the chatter for the Buddy Read and not being able to play too!Abandoned Not The End Of The World and picked up When She Woke.
I just finished One Crazy Summer and am starting Like Sisters on the Homefront. I work in a middle school in Little Rock, AR and Rita Williams-Garcia is coming to our school on Friday to meet with a group of 6th graders and discuss One Crazy Summer. I just bought a copy of Like Sisters on the Homefront to get it autographed. I've also read Jumped by her. Her YA work is very realistic and a little mature for most of my readers but all of her work is incredible. I am so excited about getting to meet her and our 6th graders are over the moon!
Finished A House for Mr BiswasMy review: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
This is fiction, but is partially based on the author's father. A Nobel Prize winner not to my liking!
Now reading Resistance: A French Woman's Journal of the War
STILL listening to Truman. This is long but very, very interesting.
BAH. You're all trying to derail my alphabet even more than it already is with all this Buddy Read business.

"I started The Gunslinger for the toppler. (2nd book). I temporarily put it aside as 2 other books that I reserved months ago (one in 2012!!!) at the library became available. Life works in a strange way as the author's names start by C and D and I am almost done with my B book. The King I will finish later. Probably too late for the "Who said that" tough.
Finished When She Woke now it is time to finish the books I put down since the Toppler. I'm about 40% done with 11/22/63 which I am reading for the April challenge. Then it's time to get back to the Alphabet books. I'm also listening to Gone Girl but since I am not in my regular routine ( running errands and such) I am not very far into it.
I was reading
at the end of the Toppler. I won it in a giveaway a couple of years ago and just never got around to reading it. I finished it a couple of days ago. It was okay. I started off liking it, but by the end it was just okay. Now I'm trying to finish The Red Tent and Duma Key.Also got A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court through Whispersync voice combos. My first time doing this so I hope I get it to work.
Roz, I started with liking Letters In Cardboard Boxes too but then lost interest. I hope to still pick it up sometime and finish it. Hate unfinished books.

"I hope you like the Gunslinger Lynn....at least you don't have to wait 25 years to read the whole series if you choose to.
Actually, you have just inspired me to read
The Wind Through the Keyhole for my K book (the only one I haven't read yet)
Lynn wrote: "25 years?!? Wow, never realised that!"I was going to make the same comment. Some of us waited a loooog time for the finale!☺

It was a long wait.....but well worth it though.
Reading No Angel which is set in England before WWI, and also The House at Tyneford which is also set in England, but during the WWII era. Other similarities in the milieux had me concerned I'd get the books mixed up reading both at once but so far that hasn't happened.

I have to say I'm struggling to get into it :/
I will keep plodding on though as there are a lot of you out there who seem to love it.

I'm picking up an
Amanda Quick for my Q author as well. Not sure which one, it'll depend on my mood. Can't beat a good piece of romantic canyfloss every now and then

I think the first couple were like that for me, but I was a teenager, and if it said Stephen King on it I was going to read it regardless. It was a very long journey for those of us who fell in love with it. I do know a lot of people who just never could get into it.
hoping to start Under the Dome tonight or tomorrow for the monthly challenge. looking forward to the tv series in june!
I finished Riptide today, and am starting The Call of the Wild. I got this book last year when SYNC had their free summer downloads. The list is up for this year - http://www.audiobooksync.com/

Roz, I liked your review. You were so thourogh and honest with your exptations and what you were not happy about in the book. I love the title and was drawn to put it on my TBR list, but have updated it to the "maybe" shelf because I feel that I might have the same experience as you have had. Thank you.
Cherie, I have a lot of trouble writing review. Saying "I liked this book" sounds so trite. And saying "I really didn't like this book" sounds cruel. Especially since the author worked so hard putting the words together and feels so proud of their product. I feel like I'm disappointing them. This book was especially hard because the author contacted me when I won it the giveaway and wanted me to read it and review it. Maybe that's why I put off reading it for as long as I did. Imagine my horror when I didn't like it! I thought about not writing a review, but I had to be honest. It just wasn't very good. I meant it though when I said I hoped her next book is better. Not every effort hits the mark.
I really , really do think you should check outResistance: A French Woman's Journal of the War!My review: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
OK, now do not laugh. I am reading Forever Amber. I know it is a love story, but heck I like trying different genres. I bought the book so now I have to read it. Also it is about the Restoration period in England the big fire in London, so hopefully I will learn something too. I have read a bit, and it is so blatantly a love story that I in fact like it. Amber is so plucky. There is no hiding what is important to this gal. I also like the wonderful description of the surroundings, be it cute English villages filled with flowers and shrubs, birds and starlit skies or London in the 1600s. So far I find it fun.
It's IEP time and a few other stressors are buzzing around my life,so great literature is out and a good story is in. Right now I'm reading The Unseen by Heather Grahamn - a paranormal detective series.
I started another book last night - The Bone Bed. It's for my irl book club. The woman who picked the book for us to read alluded that there was a local connection, but I didn't realize how local! I crossed the Wapiti River every day before I moved into the city, and there it was named in the first paragraph. A few years ago, dinosaur bones were found in the river bank and this story is using that as a background. Should be an interesting read!I think I have just replaced my original Alberta read for my cross Canada challenge.

Once again back to Not The End Of The World. I had set it aside so that I could participate in the Buddy Read of When She Woke which is a blast. The rest of you should try to join in the fun.
Almeta's Review of When She Woke
ETA: You're not going to believe this, but I am setting Not The End Of The World aside again! I just realized that Unnatural Fire needs to be read before the 21st!
