The Spellman Files (The Spellmans, #1) by Lisa Lutz

Basically the whole family, parents, uncles, sisters, etc. are in a PI agency together. The book is really about Izzy but her whole family is featured throughout the story. It reminded me a little of Harriet the Spy (the mischief, the pranks, etc.)

If you can't use the Es, you can change into UF and use either Eileen Wilks or Jennifer Estep :)

I would submit Benedict Cumberbatch for your consideration as Lord Akeldama.

Saw this and thought it was cute:

message 1009: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments I think I'm the only one who doesn't like Benedict Cumberbatch.

Of course, I've yet to watch Sherlock.

But even then, he's not attractive to me in the least!

message 1010: by Barb (new)

Barb Rebecca wrote: "I recently read Brownies and Broomsticks (A Magical Bakery Mystery #1) which already established a love triangle right away. So annoying!"

Why do so many authors feel the need to add these triangles to their books? It's getting to be more and more frustrating all the time :\

"If anyone likes the Spellmans series, I do recommend Sofie Metropolis (Sofie Metropolis, #1). I found this series by accident and I really like it."

I just picked up the first of the Spellman books at our FOL booksale last month, but I haven't read it yet.

"If you are on the east coast, stay cool!"

I'm not on the coast per se, but we're not too far inland. It's *very hot here (south-central Pennsylvania), and we're under a heat advisory until late tonight. Thank goodness for air conditioning!

message 1011: by Barb (new)

Barb Time Lord Steven wrote: "Maybe they get better after the first one and you can push through and use the Es? :D"

I thought about trying to read the first one again, but I'm not sure I really want to put myself through that! And I'm such a read-in-order person that I *have to read the first book before I move on to book #2.

I suppose if I ever get *really desperate for E books, I could give it another shot, but there are a LOT of authors named Elizabeth out there :)

Yes, Ashley Marie! I will change my answer to "Could anyone else play Lord A other than Brit actors Rupert Everett or Benedict Cumberbatch?", LOL. And Alan Rickman did pop into my mind as well.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6401 comments Oh and for Conall, Lord Maccon, Gerard Butler with another 20 pounds or so would be perfect.

message 1017: by Barb (new)

Barb Alan Rickman can play ANY part he wants to play :) And Gerard Butler as well!

message 1018: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments Ashley Marie wrote: "I would submit Benedict Cumberbatch for your consideration as Lord Akeldama."

Oh, I'm loving this line up of British actors guys! Also lovely to find on my screen when I woke up this morning was a picture of the lovely Benedict himself (thanks Lisa Kay ;D)

Alan Rickman being so flamboyant would be FANTASTIC. Ha! And I just thought of the idea of Robert Carlylse being him and I laughed out loud.

Steven, I don't even think that Benedict is attractive to most people. He's striking, or just different to look at, I agree. It's his voice and his mannerisms as Sherlock that have got a lot of people I know.

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments Lisa - (Aussie Girl) wrote: "Oh and for Conall, Lord Maccon, Gerard Butler with another 20 pounds or so would be perfect."

I've always had such a particular look in mind for Conall... I'm trying to work out in my mind if it correlates to anyone who actually exists or if it's just amazing descriptive powers of Gail Carriger's part ;)

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Muahahaha, some of the books that we discussed a few pages ago (page 20, I believe) have been coming up as available for my holds at the library! Mind you, I'm still finishing up 'older' books but still, having them in my possession is enough for now! So far, I've picked up The Hit (Will Robie, #2) by David Baldacci and Killing Floor (Jack Reacher, #1) by Lee Child . Okay, that's just two books but hey, it excites me, LOL!

message 1021: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments :)

My "holds" on ebooks will take a while as I'm still user 20 out of like 64, and each will get up to three reads to have them and read them. *sigh*

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Grr, Goodreads ate my notifications for this group so I've got a page full of chatter to read and comment on here.

@Barb - re: Stephanie Plum -- I think the series would have been fine ending with 5 to 10 books and if you couldn't get into the first, I don't think you would gain anything by picking it up again. For me, after book 10, things just became ridiculous and repetitive but I read up to 16 because it was a fast, easy and sometimes amusing read for summer road trips. As for Hannah Swensen, I can't believe she wouldn't choose a guy who built her a house! I mean, really! Unless he was cuckoo or something, of course.

@ Rebecca -- been meaning to read The Spellmans but of course, I forgot about it. My library carries it, woot.

@Steven - LOL @ love pyramid. Also, boo to your ebooks holds taking so long!

RE: Cumberbatch - I have yet to watch Shakespeare(LOL,what? Glad I proofread this) Sherlock but I can see Cumberbatch's appeal. He's pretty unconventional looking, with interesting angles and I think he can look different depending on angles and lighting. With some actors, it's not just looks, it's mannerisms and how they portray their characters. Apparently, with Cumberbatch, a lot of his appeal is his voice, too. Tom Hiddleston is another yummy Brit, to me. I could go on about yummy Brits all afternoon, lol. Also, I really want to read The Parasol Protectorate Soulless, Blameless, and Changeless by Gail Carriger

Sallie(GeorgiaGirl) (shuga) | 775 comments hi everyone...I finished another book today Last Breath by rachel caine...3*s...07.19...I was very disappointed in this one as it just didnt hold my attention like the previous books in the series have it was just an ok read...

message 1024: by Barb (new)

Barb Late last night, I finished Please Don't Tell by Elizabeth Adler , by Elizabeth Adler. I've read quite a few other books by Adler, but this is her first foray into romantic suspense, and it was very well done. I can't say more without giving things away, but I'm glad I stayed up late last night to finish the book :)

I'm reading Heartless (Parasol Protectorate, #4) by Gail Carriger at the moment myself, Teresa. Have you happened to read any other books in the Parasol Protectorate series up to now?

message 1026: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie (darlingdoor) | 1733 comments Benedict Cumberbatch is a sexy alien. If you just described him to me, I'd be all lolwut? Cheekbones? No thank you.

But then he acts and /swoon! Also, the deleted shower scene in Star Trek is a thing of beauty if you haven't seen it yet. Mildly NSFW - nothing too exciting happens, but it might be hard to explain your boss what you're doing...

For Conall, I always thought Hugh Jackman would be great...probably because Conall is sort of already Wolverine in my mind lol

message 1027: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments Ashley Marie wrote: "Benedict Cumberbatch is a sexy alien."

YES. Oh my god, what an entirely amazing description of him. Shower scene? Is there a Youtube video of it??

Actually, speaking of Sherlock, has anyone seen this video clip of him and Martin Freeman? http://nicole-d-fergusson.blogspot.co...

If Conall were Hugh Jackman, he would have to put on more weight around the middle and adopt sizeable mutton chops. But I can see it, actually. Especially as he's getting a little older.

Hugh Jackman! I love that man's arms.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6401 comments A friend of a friend of a friend used to have Hugh Jackman mow her lawn (and no, that's not a euphemism for anything other than gardening although she may wish it was...). I live in the same area of Sydney where Hugh grew up.

message 1031: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments ..... That is the best story ever. You've just made me wish I lived in Sydney over Melbourne ;)

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6401 comments Haha, Nicole... we don't want to start up that old rivalry of which is the better city! (PS It's Sydney.. cheeky wink)

Finished another book last night: Private London by James Patterson. Now, on to my next book.

message 1038: by Barb (new)

Barb You're a reading machine lately, Nancy :)

message 1039: by [deleted user] (new)

message 1040: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Way to go, Nancy!

I'm going to pick up my first James Patterson next month for the "New to You Author" category :)

message 1041: by [deleted user] (new)

Which book?

message 1042: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments I'm thinking Along Came a Spider. Maybe a paperback I just "stole" from my grandma's bookshelf this weekend called Sail (so I could then use Along Came a Spider for the movie category... or save it and not start ANOTHER new series right now haha)

message 1043: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, I hope you like him.

message 1044: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments I hope so too...

Don't forget to tag that book for Mango Tango!!! I'm updating the spreadsheet and don't see it on your shelf!

message 1045: by [deleted user] (new)

I tagged it to Mango Tango but not sure why it isn't showing up.

message 1046: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments It shows up now that you tagged the edition you marked as read :)

message 1047: by [deleted user] (new)

Alright. Well, I'll double check from now on to see it gets tagged.

message 1048: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Thanks! Sometimes Goodreads like to play with our sanity and do weird things!

message 1049: by [deleted user] (new)

I would say so cause i thought i tagged it last night.

message 1050: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Goodreads servers were crazy overloaded last night. Might have just glitched! I kept getting the "We're over capacity! Try again in a little while!" screen.
