message 908: by Barb (new)

Barb Yeah, I figured that's what you meant :) Thanks for the info, I'll look for The Floating Admiral ... when I clear out some of the books on my ever-growing TBR list LOL

Barb I'v got to stop reading through all the GR notifications! That's where I get into the most trouble :)

Thanks, Barb! I have Lee Child on hold and I was looking into Joseph Finder. I think I can get a few of his books, too. Unfortunately, my acct is at the limit of 10 books, boo hoo! And I borrowed a few slots from my son's account, LOL! I just need to get to reading!

Baldacci's Puller series is now noted in the brain. I did get book one of the Camel Club today! I've had The Hit (Robie #2) on hold for weeks now, sigh!!

I was considering giving the Women's Murder Club series a peek but I read a really negative review that nitpicked about a lot of things that I know would bug me so I set it aside mentally for now. Too many others that I really want to check out more first!

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Barb wrote: "I'v got to stop reading through all the GR notifications! That's where I get into the most trouble :)"

Oh, I know! LOL!! Those notifications suck me in!!! And all the challenges...I "have" to peek at everyone's planned reading lists because OH NO, I might discover an author I've never heard of! Honestly, I hadn't really heard of Steve Berry or James Rollins until you and Steven. I'd seen their names but that was really it, nothing like recommendations from anyone or anything. Mark my words, I WILL be reading them both...eventually! LOL!

Oh, Barb, thanks for all the links to those mystery anthologies. As if I needed more to look for, lol!!!

Ten books on hold? Or ten books checked out at a time? Either one is terrible for a reader, but a 10-item limit on checkouts would be worse LOL

message 918: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments My library has a 4 item checkout limit on digital stuff. Dunno about physical books!

Sallie(GeorgiaGirl) (shuga) | 775 comments I finished City of Bones by Cassandra Clare...07.11.2013 4*s....this was a re-read since it had been sometime since I had read this & I was wanting to see movie when it's released....i liked it there was alot in this book that I had forgotten about but Im glad that I took the time to do a re-read....

I'm starting City of Bones next week for the BR here. I really wanted to read it before the movie as I always prefer to read the book first :)

message 922: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments That's on my list!

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6400 comments Just my opinion of course but I think Cassandra Clare is probably the best writer of YA at present.

Why don't you join us next week Barb? Then you can get something off your TBR! I always find those "maybe" books are better read as a group

message 927: by Barb (new)

Barb Time Lord Steven wrote: "My library has a 4 item checkout limit on digital stuff. Dunno about physical books!"

We used to be limited to five digital items at one time, but they recently changed that, and I'm not sure what the limit is now. We can only have 15 items on hold at one time, but can check out as many as 100 physical items per card.

If I wasn't committed to reading so many other books before the end of July, I might take you up on that, Karen. But I'm going to have to pass this time around.

I absolutely LOVED the Infernal Devices. My sister is grabbing the Clockwork Princess for my birthday, and then I'm going to suggest a buddy read if it hasn't already been done here ;)

Nichole, no Clockwork Princess, but we could set one up, if and when you like. So far we have:
Clockwork Angel-"BOM" - before we did DQs
Clockwork Angel "buddy read"revisted - has DQs
Clockwork Prince "BOM" - has DQs

Thank you for such a quick reply! It's definitely something I'l be looking into further once I have my copy of the book ;)

Not yet, but they are on the list! I think book 1 of that series is either checked out or my library did not have it at all (grr) so I put it aside for now. It drives me nuts that my library will carry most or all of a series, save for book 1!! How can you not carry the introduction book, grr? I could put in requests for them, I suppose. I think I will do that. I will probably have to put in about 5 requests myself just for them to get ordered, haha.

It's actually both! But, I was talking about 10 books checked out in my post. Yes, it's horrible. My son has his own acct so I sometimes use what he's not using but my husband nags at me when I do that so I try not to often. It's so embarrassing when he nags at me in front of our librarians, ugh. ("What if Tristan wants to check out something and you have his account full?! NAG NAG", LOL). I really need to take more solo trips to the library, lol. If nothing else, my little limit is incentive for me to do a lot of reading and turn-over, heh.

Read these two in order: Relic (Pendergast, #1) by Douglas Preston Reliquary (Pendergast, #2) by Douglas Preston
This isn't Pendergast, but Smithback from the first two appears and Nora Kelly is introduced (and she is in many other books) Thunderhead by Douglas Preston
Then these: (my favorite!) The Cabinet of Curiosities (Pendergast, #3) by Douglas Preston Still Life With Crows (Pendergast, #4) by Douglas Preston Brimstone (Pendergast, #5; Diogenes, #1) by Douglas Preston
These two need to be read in order: Dance of Death (Pendergast, #6; Diogenes, #2) by Douglas Preston The Book of the Dead (Pendergast, #7; Diogenes, #3) by Douglas Preston
The Wheel of Darkness (Pendergast, #8) by Douglas Preston Cemetery Dance (Pendergast, #9) by Douglas Preston
These three need to be read in order: Fever Dream (Pendergast, #10) by Douglas Preston Cold Vengeance (Pendergast #11) by Douglas Preston Two Graves (Pendergast, #12) by Douglas Preston

message 938: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments You could go ahead and read Thunderhead if you wanted to. It doesn't reveal anything other than that Smithback became slightly famous after the events of the first two books. Other than him and Nora Kelly (the protag), it's a standalone book outside of the Pendergast series (Pendergast isn't in it!)

Also, Pendergast is part of an ensemble cast in the first two (Relic and Reliquary) but later is mostly the main MAIN character.

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments And... you should totally see if a local used bookstore has it for cheap. :) Great series. I reread them often!

Barb ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) wrote: "It drives me nuts that my library will carry most or all of a series, save for book 1!! How can you not carry the introduction book, grr?"

It's possible that the library *had book 1 but either had to withdraw the book due to poor condition or the book has mysteriously disappeared *ahem.was.stolen.or.not.returned.ahem* That's happened to a LOT of older books in our collection, and in a lot of cases, they're really expensive to replace, so the powers that be are reluctant to buy a new copy.

That's awful :\ If we tried to institute a 10-book limit, I think our patrons would stage a mutiny LOL

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Steven!! Thank you for the "read in order" for those books!! I'm pasting that into a text file to print out, hehe!

Barb, I bet you're right, it could be that they had those books and they were "lost"/in poor condition. My library has been with its current database system for just a few years so they may not have bothered putting in any older books that were lost, etc. before they started using this system. Usually, if a book is lost/not returned, it still shows up in their database so that's why I kept thinking it was odd that they would be missing a book here or there in some series.

I belong to 2 different libraries...the reason being is that the library in Vincennes In has more of a new book selection etc as they are connected to Vincennes University but they also charge me $65 a year for a card as I am not a resident of Indiana but because I lived closer to Vincennes than I do now I have kept my membership current...i figure that with the cost of a couple books compared to the hundreds that I do check out in the course of a year I money well ahead...they do not impose a limit on the number of books to check out however the local library here in town where I live they only allow you to check out 5 at a time & only allow you a limit of 3 books max to request...that is very frustrating because it takes about a week to get a book that has been requested sometimes longer. I wish they would up the limit to at least 10....since I live in town I dont have to pay for the privilege to have a library card.
