I need to look at my TBR to determine my goal. Since I'm trying to knock off some long books, I might try for 1000 pages.

I tried a mini challenge in round one, and did not do so well.
I'll have another look see tomorrow and decide then.
:)

A couple of ideas:
Take a photo of 4 books covers that represent each of the seasons.
Take a photo of book titles which form a sentence of at least 4 words and 3 books.

For RaTs I want to read what I need to read as each month I already have set books for the whole month. I don't want to force in something else as each month I'm already committed to more than I can possibly read anyway.
This RaT seems restrictive
◈ Each team should choose a theme for the read-a-thon and read at least one book representing that theme.
*1 point per book read
*30 points if 50% of team members read a book representing the theme
*50 points if all the team members read a book representing the theme
◈ Each of them should read a book with a cover representing the color of the team.
*1 point per book read
*30 points if 50% of team members read a book with the team color
*50 points if all the team members read a book with the team color
◈ An extra 5 points if all the team members participate in the read-a-thon.
And the whole point seems to be that ◈ The winner will get a 4 book advantage on the team's total
So I would think that everyone has to be involved and everyone has to commit to all the little challenges and everyone has to do the mini challenges. Like I said it's a whole lot of work and time involved.
I only want to participate if EVERYONE is going to participate because otherwise what's the point?
READ-A-THON UPDATES
There are some misunderstanding about ALL the team members needed to participate to get points.
Well, they DON'T
If a team has 12 members and only 4 want to participate, that team can still earn all the points available.
We'll consider that team a team of FOUR elements to the Read-a-Thon only.

I need to get a roll call of folks participating in the Readathon by Wednesday noon Pacific time, as I will be leaving for Copenhagen on Thursday and we won't have wireless at the hotel.
From the message above, I think that "the whole team" points only applies to those folks that are participating in the Readathon, so Barbara if you don't want to participate, it will not penalize us.
I know what you mean about planned reading....I also have a pretty solid list going into the month. We could probably find a theme that would fit something on most of our lists.....like a "young adult", or romance. For me the harder one is the color mauve which I think pink would be accepted, but I don't read many books with pink covers :-)

I was just saying that the point of the RaT is to get the most points so you get the 4 extra books for our team. But if everyone doesn't participate, then we can't win so why go through all the bother. But that seems to have been a misunderstanding as the instructions are unclear on this point.
So if we're going to do it, I'm in.
In 12 days time I typically read over 4000 pages but to be on the safe side, I will go with 3500.
I have 5 romances and 7 YA on my May reading list so I could do either theme.

It looks like I might have two books that qualify as mauve for May if I can get them from the library. What do you think, is this mauve?

I see there is some confusion about the whole RaT process, can I help?
The RaT has a max of 160 points per team.
If not all the team members want to participate, your team can still earn 155 points.
In order to gain that 155 points, every PARTICIPATING member of the team has to read 2 books, one matching the color and other matching the theme, that allow to achieve the goal set, and the team has to suggest a mini-challenge (before the start of the read-a-thon).
Is not supposed to be easy.
I'm sorry that things get so confused. It all made sense in my mind when I was creating it. But my brain sometimes work in mysterious ways *giggles*
I'll try to be less complicated to the next one.
Any more question feel free to ask.
You can always post it to the RaT or send a PM, just in case I let it pass unnoticed.

I think I am going to set myself up for a goal of 5000 pages.

I don't think all of your books has to match the theme...I think only 2 out of all of them have to in the mauve cover and second one to match the theme. Mods correct me if I am wrong..:)

Hina or JoLene do you want to contact them?

How about "take a picture of the books you plan to read for the RaT"?

I had suggested a couple things above....
though of another one....take a picture of books that represent a trip involving multiple continents.
You guys are amazing in terms of reading speed. I wish that I could read that fast!!
I always thought that mauve was more pink-ish than purple.....I found a pink book, but will now start trying to find a more "purple" one.
Hina, I will send the others a quick message.

Hina - 5000 pages
Barbara - 4000 pages
Evil Twin One (Ange) - 2000 pages
Carrie - 1500 pages
Jingles - 1000 pages
JoLene -1000 pages
Valerie - 1000 pages
Thilde - 600 pages

I don't think any of them would work really, sorry. Those purple covers would fall in the lilac family and the first would be in the magenta one.

I googled the colour for you, since you seem to be having some difficulty. This is what Wikipedia regards it as (with examples):

Thanks, I always leaned towards opera mauve, mauve taupe and sometimes old mauve when thinking of the color.

Also, we have a new teammate......welcome Thilde!

LOl...I already predict I am going to find myself holding the book up to the screen or switching screen to see if the book color qualifies.

Some ideas for mini challenges. We need to pick one to submit before the challenge starts. Please indicate your favorites or add some others.
A. Take a photo of 4 books covers that represent each of the seasons.
B. Take a photo of book titles which form a sentence of at least 4 words and 3 books.
C. Take a picture of all the books you are planning to read for Readathon.
D. Create a series of 4 books which created a sequence, either alphabetical or numerical. The books cannot be from the same series.
E. Take a trip around the world with books set in at least five continents.
F. Take a road trip with 4 books set in contiguous countries

Anyone opposed to the young adult genre for our theme??? If anyone else does the SRC, YA will probably be something you need for the 50 point task :-)
Proposals:
A. Young Adult: WINNER!!!!!
B. Romance
C. Has a non-human character
D. Set in a foreign country
Votes: JoLene, Barbara, can do any
Hina: C or D
Valerie:A or D
Jingles: A or B
Feel free to nominate some else......

We need to ask regarding the picture vs collage. The examples were take a photo so I was just going with that :-)

mini challenges - we don't actually have to do this, just suggest it. I like E best.
theme - I can do any of those.

Seems like it would work based on the purple-y definition of mauve :-)
You are correct that we only need to suggest the mini challenge, but I would say that at some point we will be requested to do the challenges as well :-). I have asked a question regarding if we can just use GR links vs taking and then uploading photos.
Also, someone indicated that you earn points for every book with your team color and I have pointed out that it is a bit unfair because some covers are easier to find than others :-).
I'll keep you guys posted.

Just checking in.
That Read-a-thon sounds great. Maybe I'll join in and set my goal to 600 pages.
I have found that the book I am currently reading sure is mauve

Welcome Thilde!!! Please let me know where you will be shelving books for this challenge so I can add it to our spreadsheet. All of the important links are in the beginning of this thread.
We can't count the book you are currently reading for the read-a-thon since that one has a set start time of May 1st.

If all else fails, I will either use the one posted by JoLene or Barbara. Those two books are in a favorite genre of mine, so it's all good.

I will list in the proposal thread which is here: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...
We are using YOUNG ADULT as the theme
