Hina (hinaj) | 884 comments Puzzle 147 is two parts: A slider puzzle and a jigsaw puzzle. I had time to finish the jigsaw puzzle, but if someone gets time to do the slider puzzle before I get to it later today....

message 552: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ I'll do part 2 for you Hina.

JoLene, I posted puzzle 149 in our secret group for you - it's another encrypted quote from Harry Potter. Good luck!

message 553: by Barbara ★ (last edited Sep 20, 2013 04:52PM) (new)

Barbara ★ All done Hina though I can't post yet as photobucket is down at the moment. I'll post as soon as I can.

message 554: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ Well photobucket is still down and I'm heading to bed. I can post in the morning or if someone else feels like finishing the slider for puzzle 147 and posting using something other than photobucket, feel free.

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 705 comments Thanks --- I'll look at it tonight. I think that we might be running out of long books, but I need to get that organized this weekend :-D

JoLene, I have a couple of biggies 800-1000 pages scheduled to read in October and November.

message 558: by JoLene (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 705 comments Great --- I think that I'm also going to read some big ones on my list. This year, I had decided to lower my reading goal and read more chunksters.....but then these challenges cropped up. With the chunkster cupcakes, I feel like I can read them and not let down the team!

message 559: by Hina (new)

Hina (hinaj) | 884 comments Thanks Barbara and JoLene for finishing up the puzzles.

Also, the October Read-A-Thon is up and it looks very interesting. :)

We can choose from two choices:

Event 1 which is read as much as you can and even 2 is a halloween book hunt.

We can do one or the other or both. And if we get 1st place in both events we can get a maximum of 25 BAP's. SO read up on it and tell me what you think we should do. I will post a new thread for October Read a thon on our other thread.

How's the September challenge going for you guys?

message 560: by JoLene (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 705 comments Sept challenge is good.
The mods should be posting in out threads soon (I think)

I have some chunksters I want to tackle so I'm down with the number of pages, but they aren't really Halloween related so I probably can only contribute to the spell it out one if we chose. We are remodeling our house so I will probably be hanging out at the library and hopefully get a lot of reading done.

I will send a heads up message to folks tonight. I also have to do the encryption puzzle......unless someone else wants to do it :-). DH and I got caught up in the show, Orphan Black, and watched the last 3 episodes. Anyone else watching that (BBC America)??

Sorry, JoLene, not sure what you mean by this. Posting what, exactly?

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 705 comments I thought that you were going to actually post the readathon message in the groups (as you usually do)....or at least a pointer.

message 570: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ Does anyone know how close (or far) any team is to winning this Tower Team Challenge?

message 571: by JoLene (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 705 comments Here is the order ranked order:
Moonstone 955
Leather Jacket Black 904
Electric Lime 866
Pewter Blue 791
Forest Green 789
Mango Tango 787
Wild Blue Yonder 776
Mauvelous 763
Cadet Blue
Cerulean (Hobbit Blue)
Blastoff Bronze
Tickle Me Pink
B'dazzled Blue
Radical Red
Purple Mt's Majesty

Read-a-Thon Duration: October 4th BST 4:00 PM to October 19th BST 4:00 PM

We decided to use the Greenwich hour for two reasons:
1.Is the "zero" hour. All time zones relate to it
2.Daylight saving time change will only occur on October 27th, so it won't interfere with read-a-thon timings.

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 705 comments This is becoming a Fri night tradition --- although we need to read more chunksters :-)

message 584: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ chunksters take too long. :)
though I do have 2 on tap for October.

message 585: by JoLene (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 705 comments I know --- but they can ran up to 5 points :-)

I did not get to the encrypted puzzle last night......decided it was more important to read......and by read, I mean falling asleep on the coach with my book open :-)

Too funny. I had a few days last week like that. I've been sick and just can't keep my eyes open.

The puzzle will wait for you as no one else can do them. You have a month so no worries.

message 588: by JoLene (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 705 comments Yeah, we are packing up one floor of our house for a remodel and I think it's stirring up a lot of dust which is making us really sleepy. I normally only need 6-7 hrs sleep and now I am going to bed earlier and sleeping later :-(

I'm sure the dust will only get worse since demolition starts on Monday :-)

message 589: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ Maybe masks are in order as God knows what you're inhaling especially if it's making you sleepy. Doesn't sound healthy at all. Be careful.

message 590: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ puzzle 158 completed and submitted. thanks JoLene for your help.

I will take on the task of tackling some chunksters for us beginning October 1, with The Fiery Cross. From there I will focus on books that are more than 450 pages.

Will that help?

message 592: by Hina (new)

Hina (hinaj) | 884 comments Barbara,

So sorry, I know I was suppose to respond to you for the October Readathon and I just got completely swamped by other things and it was the first week of classes for me. Sadly, I only finished one book over the weekend. I will stop by the other thread to put everything up soon.

JoLene

I agree with Barbara, doesn't sound too good to be inhaling so much dust. I vote for the mask too. In terms of chunksters read, I will be reading A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, #1) by George R.R. Martin which I think is around 800 pages and The World Is Flat A Brief History of the Twenty-first Century by Thomas L. Friedman which I think is around 600 pages in October.

Jingles
Hi, Haven't see you in a while, or maybe I am the one who hasn't been around. LOL.

message 593: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (icanhasbooks) | 105 comments I thought the book I was reading would help with the chunksters, but it's only 430 pages :(

Lol...I have lost track of what is considered chunkster, triple threat etc etc...I couldn't say it for sure without looking it up. All I know is that I rarely read a book that big and I am hoping JoLene will catch it if I ever read one that qualifies.

No worries Hina. RL has to come first. You have until Thursday pm to figure it out and if not, I'll just start reading the supernatural stuff until you give me direction. :)

message 599: by JoLene (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 705 comments Yes -- I do sneak peeks to everyone's shelves to catch them. We still have lots of cupcakes that we can use for all the different categories ---- I can post the amount.

Also, the primary determining factor is word count so if it's close, I will submit and see if it passes.

Jingles, read away --- you are the chunkster queen!! I also have some longer ones on the docket soon.

message 600: by JoLene (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 705 comments BTW -- I created a Oct - Read Like A Banshee thread in the sister group.

During the Read a thon, if you are participating in Event 1 (purely pages read), then please give an update every couple days of the amount of pages that you read. (Note: Pages read for the Event 2: treasure Hunt game can count for both events)
