I want to nominate Demon Hunter and Baby by Anna Elliot. Yeah the cover stinks, BUT OH MY GOSH, this was a great read. Demon Hunter and Baby
Ashley Marie wrote: "I'd like to nominate Among Others."Hey, Ashley, curious--have you read it? I saw it was a Hugo Nomination--so is it UF or sci/fi fantasy? Just curious. I didn't know they ever nominated UF.
I haven't read it, but have had it recommended by all of my UF reading friends - I think if it's BOM i'll actually have the push I need to read it!I think it's one of those tricky books that would fall into the "how do you define UF?" thread in the group, honestly. It's shelved as UF by a large subset of people (set in an English boarding school, involves witches and magic), but also has a "books about books" component that seems to deal almost exclusively with scifi and fantasy classics, which is where the Hugo nom comes from.

Wow, thanks for the description. I generally avoid Hugo noms like a plague. I've only read a couple but they mostly seem to be long, dry tomes with some sort of message about humans or such and I have trouble getting through them. That one sounds very interesting!

"I'm normally really sketchy about Hugo noms, too, because it seems like the best way to get nominated (with very few exceptions) is to write some super pretentious junk. Hopefully my recommenders aren't leading me astray! This one seems very different just based on the blurb, at least.

Love that book!

Love that book!
One of my favourite standalone novels from his Newford series: Someplace to Be Flying by Charles de Lint. If you have not read De Lint before, this is a good place to start. I was planing on re-reading this one any way so why not in good company?
It looks like the group may have read Skinwalker in 2010. Do you let renominations after a two or three years?I haven't read it so I would like to nominate it.
Skinwalker by Faith Hunter
or
Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman

I'm not sure what to make of that one! It almost looks like sci fi, but I'm not 100% sure on that. I agree that it does look interesting.

So many look really interesting. I'd be up for a number of these.
only one I don't have in my TBR pile is Demon Hunter and Baby but it looks good and I think that it will be there soon.

I loved Among Others! If the group chooses it I'd be happy to re-read. Whether it is Urban fantasy or not is open for debate. It takes place in our world, but the pacing is different than the Noir detective or sayer type of Urban fantasy.
Dawn wrote: "What about The Way of Shadows by Brent Weeks...is he UF or just Fantasy??"I'd second that
Not sure if Steels Edge Ilona Andrews is UF or PNR wishing it was UF. We could just ignore ch 1 and the last chapter and pretend!
Lauren wrote: "How about
by Keri Arthur?"i'll second this one - i've had it laying around forever and would love to get to it!
Caleb wrote: "I would I us to read Tempest Rising, the firts book in the Jane True Novels."Ooh, seconding this!
Paula wrote: "Have we read Angelfall. If not, I'd like to nominate 'Angelfall'."I would second this.
Letitia wrote: "I recommend Lover at Last by JR Ward or Monster Hunter International by Larry Correia"Monster Hunter is so campy - I love it!
I love the Jane true series as well as the night huntress series but why has no one mentioned Dakota Cassidy and her accidental series? The accidental werewolf is hilarious and full of sexy times but if it doesn't get picked many of the other books sound great and I do suggest that people read it in their spare time. Oh, and shout out to Jennifer rardin. Not a lot of sexy times but definitely a book that people need to read.
