message 801: by Mark (new)

Mark Mitchell | 5 comments I think its both exciting and intimidating at the same time but in a good way. I mean nothing would have been worse than coming onto a specialist fantasy sight and being like, huh I've read everything already! On the other hand I was desperately hoping to reach the 27 as I counted my way through the list. What I really like though is the vibrancy of on online group where you show everything you've ever read, and you can focus on which parts of it you like, whether that's the general challenges, the buddy reads, the rereads or the monthly reeds. I'm sure I'll get over the fact I'm having to fully reevaluate the effectiveness of my reading life...!

I have faith in you, Mark! And yes, it would have been very disappointing if you'd already found all of the books our amazing group members have voted in. Excited to hear your thoughts on books as you get to them :D

message 803: by Gary (new)

Gary Gillen | 193 comments I have read 79 of the 277 on the list as of today.
Of the 24 books the group read in 2018, I have read 3 and one is on my to read shelf. This tells me I need to add more.

message 804: by Eleanor (new)

Eleanor | 4 comments I have read 33 of the books on the current list. I have not looked at the 2018 or previous lists, so I assume there are many I have read there. But I am glad to be introduced to lots of books to put on my list for future reading.

I am currently trying to read Ancillary Justice on the recommendation of a friend, but I have not been pulled in yet. I did absolutely devour the Bobiverse series, so I assumed I would relate to the Ancillary series. I also tried and failed to get very far in Fifth Season, but I want to try again as it has such excellent reviews, and I like the writing--I just could not focus on the plot.

Why is that?

message 806: by Beth (new)

Beth (rosewoodpip) | 2007 comments 51, here! Which follows a lifelong trend of getting about 1/5 of the way through any checklist.

message 807: by Chris (new)

Chris | 1130 comments I recently passed 50%, with 141 read out of the current 279 on our shelf.

Trike Trike wrote: "If I can double the number of books I read this year to 25, I might hit 50% by this time next year. That’s the holy grail percentage for me, since I’m never going to read some of the books on the shelf."

Thanks to audiobooks, I have now read 27 more books from the bookshelf since January 25th. Most of them were pretty short. I might be able to get another 10-15 by year’s end.

It helps that my cataracts are preventing me from working or watching most TV. I’ve been listening to books pretty much 8 hours a day for 2 months. But books like The Eye of the World clock in at 30+ hours, which is more than all the Le Guin books combined.

Welcome to the Triple Digit Club. Snacks are provided in the clubhouse.

Wow!! Well done, Sabrina!!

Hank, you know the rules, the person who finishes the m&ms has to pick the new chocolate snack. If you have a Costco membership, that's ideal.

message 818: by Hank (new)

Hank (hankenstein) | 1231 comments Woa! Costco membership indeed, looks like we are up to 23,000 in our fabulous club, what do you think, maybe 1% are triple digits for books read? 230 bags of Reese's PB cups. #2 on the list of most liked(purchasesd?) chocolate, M&Ms being #1

I accept this decision and calculation. I forgot to mention that mods also get access to the clubhouse, regardless of their reading achievements.

I will also note I enjoy mini kitkats. Just in case anyone was curious.

message 820: by CBRetriever (new)

CBRetriever | 6146 comments me too, especially since Cadbury mini egg season is behind us

I liked the Kit Kat Bunny Ears

message 821: by Hank (new)

Hank (hankenstein) | 1231 comments There is a table at the back of the clubhouse pretentiously set higher than the rest for the 200+ readers, they serve KitKats there.

message 822: by HeyT (new)

HeyT | 506 comments As someone currently sitting at 112 read I'm going to request that you pick up some parmesan whisps at Costco for us low carb/gluten free members.

Gabi | 3441 comments Diane wrote: "Oh never mind. I just realized I’m not a member of the 100 club. 😢 Better work on that."

:D - same here … I still have 30 something books to go, before I can get to the snacks.

message 826: by Sabrina (new)

Sabrina | 375 comments Thank you guys! *blushing and digging into snacks*

Also, I'll donate some Swiss chocolate to change that statistics (though I do love M&Ms :-)

message 827: by DivaDiane (new)

DivaDiane SM | 3683 comments Me too, Gabi!

message 828: by Raucous (new)

Raucous | 888 comments Wait. There are chocolate snacks? I missed that when I read the club information posts. I have enough club books here in my TBR pile to make it to 100. Hmm...

Not that it matters yet but I'll be contributing dark chocolate.

Congratulations Sabrina.

message 834: by Maarit (last edited Jun 03, 2019 08:56AM) (new)

Maarit | 136 comments Currently I've read 80/283 books from the bookshelf. This does not include the one book I've abandoned for good (I'm looking at you Fahrenheit 451).

I hope to hit 90 books read from the bookshelf this year, maybe even more, but I think 100 books shall wait till next year (or who knows, maybe I surprise myself and reach it this year?).

message 835: by Arthur (new)

Arthur Chappell | 33 comments I reached 57

message 836: by DivaDiane (new)

DivaDiane SM | 3683 comments So, I've actually read 68, but I could probably get that to over 100 (Reece's here I come!) if I read all the titles on the bookshelf that I already own! I won't waste more time actually counting those, but get on with reading them!

message 837: by Meredith (new)

Meredith | 1783 comments I've read 86, including 4 of my goal of 12 for the year. I think I'll hit my year goal, which will put me at 94 (including one retroactive-read), but I don't think I'll get all the way to 100 given that I've got a lot stewing in my TBR. We'll see, though, my completist side may take over if things are looking good in the fall.

message 844: by ~ Giulia ~ (new)

~ Giulia ~ | 146 comments Last year I was at 65/261 = 24.9% total (16.67% of the sci-fi shelf, 33.33% of the fantasy shelf)
Now:
78/285 = 27.37% total
29/144 = 20.14% of the sci-fi shelf
49/141 = 34.75% of the fantasy shelf
DNF: 1

message 845: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn Chambers | 131 comments I’ve read 45 of them, almost all before I joined the group. Some of them so many years ago I don’t remember them and need to reread. :)

Raucous | 888 comments Carolyn wrote: "I’ve read 45 of them, almost all before I joined the group. Some of them so many years ago I don’t remember them and need to reread. :)"

I'm having this same problem except that for some of the oldest I also can't remember now which ones I did read and which ones fell into the "I should read that" category back then. That's a particular problem with all of the Le Guin books on the list. Did I read those or did I just spend time talking with friends about them when I was in grad school and didn't have much time for fiction reading? They'll feel new to me in any case and at least there's a fairly strong inverse correlation between age and book length.

Same. Earlier this year I remembered the details of a Tom Godwin novel which I hadn’t read until this month. Either I’d read about it at some point or my memory can time travel.

message 848: by Candice (new)

Candice | 55 comments I’ve read 45, I’m reading 1 and I have 14 on my TBR! Great choices!

message 849: by Bonnie (last edited Sep 06, 2019 03:30PM) (new)

Bonnie | 1280 comments I finally downloaded the spreadsheet and tallied up how many group books I've read:

136/289 = 47.1% total
85/146 = 57.5% of the sci-fi shelf
52/143 = 36.4% of the fantasy shelf
Unfinished: 5

I've got 17 out of 18 this year from The Sixth Sense Challenge, so that really helped!

message 850: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10435 comments Great job, Bonnie!

(I should probably go update the spreadsheet.)
