REVIEW - Rock my World (Black Falcon 2.5) by Michelle A. Valentine

Pros: Relatable, interesting characters (for the most part). Strong blend of contemporary and paranormal elements. Well fleshed out setting.
Cons: Slow, with most action concentrated in the last pages. Typical villain. A few chapters sound slightly awkward (see: Eduardo).
Will appeal to: Introspective readers. Male\female friendship supporters. Seeker after not stereotypical heroes and heroines.

I wrote a review of "A Million Little Pieces" by James Frey
(The book that was called out for being published as a memoir, when the author made up big parts of it)

The Beginning: Dear friend, I am writing to you because she said you listen and understand and didn’t try to sleep with that person at that party even though you could have.
Our narrator, Charlie, touched my heart deeply. There was something about his innocence, his love of music and books, his kindness and honesty. And I really liked the story and the way it builds up. Charlie is a geeky freshman who is learning how to live his live instead of observing the life that goes on around him – he has to learn how to be more than a wallflower. This quest of his was amazing to follow.
From the very beginning, you can sense that there’s something off about Charlie. He’s extremely fragile and it feels like he’s about to explode any minute. I also kept thinking that something awful was about to happen. But this book isn’t really about what happens – not like in Looking for Alaska. It’s more about the mystery of Charlie, who he is … and why.
I treasured reading about the books Charlie read and the music he listened to. He is a real reader and a true listener. All in all, the book was fun. I had many laugh out loud moments. On top of that, it was well-written, clever and heartbreaking. I had some wonderful hours with this book and was sad to let it go at the last page, even though the ending was very good.
Things change. And friends leave. Life doesn’t stop for anybody.

There’s a Spanish proverb that says, “From the thorn and the pain, a flower is born.”
