I was just wondering how often you update your reading status. Do you update it every time you read at least 10% of the book or do you you just mention that you are currently reading it and don't post anything about it until you read the entire book.

Please do.
I usually update mine when I've made decent progress and I'm done with a reading session. And of course, after finishing a book. I don't usually do reviews, but I always rate them.
I update whenever I get the chance. I like that Goodreads gives me a percentage of how far I am in the book, that's the main reason for my frequent updates!
I just update when I finish a book and start a new one. But I do post updates during reading on facebook and twitter.
I only post progress updates if someone I know is also reading the book, or waiting for me to read the book. The rest of the time, I just add a book to currently-reading when I start, and to the read shelf when done.
I like to update at the end of the day, that way if I lose my page I can find out on GR. I am definitely addicted to GR. I rotated my undies this morning too......but I usually update that on FB :)
It depends if I remember to, which sometimes isn't that often. I like the idea of keeping track on how much of a book I've read, though.
I mention when I start and finish. I do updates whenever I feel like it. There is something satisfying about seeing your progress bar. :)
Whenever I visit Goodreads I will update reading progress of longer works (I don't track most short stories, magazines and non-fiction besides books). Sometimes I've read one or more complete books before I've had the chance to revisit GR, so there is no updating during the reading of some books, only an immediate switch to read.
I rarely do updates because I'm too lazy and just post when I started and then again when I've finished the review.
Sometimes it depends on the book, if its rarely read and only has a few updates on it in general I dont update every 5 minutes but with something like Game of Thrones books which get updated every second by tons of people, then I don't feel bad updating when Im near my laptop and I have a second for a break... but I try to do when I can, its fun and its still for me :)
Depending on the book, I'll update about 3-10 times. I like to quote passages that seem worth quoting. Sometimes they intrigue other people enough to look into reading the book themselves.

That is true, I have read new books simply because the updates for them made me inclined to pick them up.

I kind of am all over the place. If the book is long, I do update when I at least finish 15% of it. If it is short, I would do maybe one or two updates. I do like the progress bar because it gives you a sense of accomplishment. I also like to see people putting up statuses about the books they read so I can see if they like it and if it seems interesting enough for me to pick it up. I found so many books this way.
I don't ever use the update thing. I just set a book as currently reading, and then read when I'm done, and then I write my review.
I usually update it everytime I read. Since I don't read everyday the books progress gets updated around 5 to 6 times.
usually every other day at least. I have the good reads app on my phone so it makes it very easy to update.

Wait. You're supposed to rotate your undies? Learn something new every day.
Oh, and as to updating...I'm afraid I don't do it much any more. I seem to have fallen out of the habit, though I'm more likely to do it with non-fiction than fiction.
If I put something in currently reading, it's like the kiss of death for the book. Most of the time I'll never finish it. And any books I'm really enjoying I'll pick up and read so often or so fast that it's not worth updating. So I just add them when I'm finished.
I don't update my reading progress. I just add a book when I start and then rate and review it when finished.
I don't bother with updating......I know where I am in the book and I doubt that anyone else cares. I only update when I finish the book.
I update 2 to 3 times a day. Especially when I am liking a book. In this case
and the 1st Monster Hunters International book in
.
I update when I start or finish a book. Other than that, about every 10% or so. If a book's short(<100 pages or so) I might just add it to my Read shelf when I'm done.
I originally just started updating when i start and finish the book. But the last two books i read i been keeping taps and updating how far i am in the novel. I do often wonder if anyone actual reads my progress.
Yeah Sarah i did that, on the last book i read. I use to do that ages ago but i use to write down on a piece of paper or type onto my mobile.
Karen wrote: "I'm really inconsistent about it. Sometimes after every chapter, sometimes not until the whole book is finished."Same. Some books get no updates, some a few. Just depends on my mood.
I only update when I start and when I'm finished. Sometimes I forget to add when I start and just do it when I'm finished. I use it more as a record of what I've read for the year than anything else.
I try to update after I read a good amount. So on average I'd say I show updates 7-8 times at some point throughout the book.
I don't do it for every book, just the ones that have interesting tidbits or I know the book is on a friends shelf so I like to share my thoughts with them. I'd do two or three updates
Hell, I do whenever I spend time reading one of the books that I am reading. It my way of saying to myself I am making progress.
I am very goal oriented and like to track how much I have read in a given period, say over an afternoon or maybe a night shift at work. I will update the status when I start reading so that I can keep up with exactly how much I have read. Just part of my OCD.
